Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

Per Malik Report: Update #12: The plane has landed, and the Detroit News’s Ted Kulfan says he’s waiting, but the Detoit News’s David Guralnick fired off more interesting news: I was doubtful that Suter is on that plane. But media are being denied acces to terminal where Ilitch’s plane will land. ... Media being sent off terminal property doesn’t mean Suter is on plane. Ilitch isn’t always up for a media scrum. ... Ilitch’s plane has landed. And Kulfan’s getting the shove-off, too: Police have booted us away from driveway Update #12.5: Here we go, from Ansar Khan: Wings plane returned from Madison 20 minutes ago. Media not allowed on grounds. No interviews allowed.

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

If it was for under $2M I'd be very interested. I can't believe so many people feel so strongly otherwise.

    Custom shirts: Viva la Octolution!

Apologies, I bought my 2 shirts in one order a while back when there wasn't a sizing chart - or maybe there was one and I missed it. I think I'll give it another go. Oh, and I love the 'Got no fun if you got no puck' design. I'd buy that one to. You should put the Letgowings.com on the top of the back of it

    Custom shirts: Viva la Octolution!

Matt, Your t-shirt designs are great, I have two of them - but you need to print them on higher quality and better cut shirts. I never wear mine because they're so baggie all around.

    Pavel needs a friend

That was part of the reason I really wanted the Wings to pick up Afinogenov over the summer. Now I never thought he'd be putting up the numbers he is this year, but he would compliment Datsyuk nicely.
  12. Love the overall quality, but why does it look like Ozzie's letting that one in?

Around the league in 30 beers

I liked the Rangers and Coyotes the most "New York Rangers are Dos Equis: Pompous, over rated and over priced, more concerned with marketing and sales than performance." "Phoenix Coyotes are Beck’s Non-Alcoholic Beer: No one has paid for either in years, no honest man would be seen supporting them, they’re both always on sale and both are things Jim Balsillie probably enjoys."

    Does Ericsson make Lilja expendable?

If anything, Ericsson makes Brad Stuart expendable.
  15. http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/2738...llion-deal.html I think Wellwood would have been a real nice addition at $1.2 million. He scored 18 goals and was a -1 +/- last year with the Canucks. He's faster and better defensively than Williams, and he's also a right hand shot. I didn't realize how young he was, only 25. We might have been able to get him for 2 or 3 years averaging $1.2 million/per.

    Kyle Wellwood re-signs with Canucks

I apolagize, I didn't realize they went to arbitration for that number. I thought he was a free agent.

    What about Afinogenov?

actually I might have been wrong. I thought I heard he was traded there a couple weeks back but I can't find anything to confirm that..

    He signed in Florida

Holland confirms that Hudler will play in KHL

I don't know if its been stated already, but does anyone else see this as a positive. If it turns out to be a 2 year deal, Hudler gains loads of experience both on and off the ice... in Russia, not the Central Division. The Wings free up cap room. We retain his rights so when he does return to N. America we either sign him to the same contract we would have today, or trade his rights for picks. Just think of it as him being sent out on loan. The UK members here know what I'm talking about.

    OFFICIAL: 12y, $62.4m makes Hossa a 'Hawk

He doesn't look nearly as good as he did in a Wings hat.

    Versteeg

No need to be an arse about it. But, yeah. The thing that everyone is upset about is that he signed within the Central Division.

Gaborik signs with Rangers, 5 years x $7.5

It's been updated. It said 5.75 mil when it was first posted, promise. 7.5 is a huge overpayment if that is really the case.

    Future of The Joe uncertain...

http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/06/th...arding_the.html Apparently, the Wings might be playing in the Palace after 2010. Atleast they're considering it. June 25, Detroit Athletic Company: The rumor mill is churning like crazy in the Detroit sports world. The latest talk is that the Detroit Red Wings are going to play one more season at Joe Louis Arena and then join forces with the Detroit Pistons as a tenant at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The Palace of Auburn HillsMy first reaction when I heard the news was that the Red Wings are going to use a possible move out of the city as a negotiating chip with government officials. Blackmail is a favorite weapon of team owners looking to bilk taxpayers. The Ilitches did the same thing when they were trying to get a new baseball stadium built. Threats to leave the city -- and even the state -- forced local politicians to fork over $185 million (plus indirect subsidies) to help build Comerica Park, lest the Tigers move to St. Petersburg, Florida on their watch. The Ilitches were able to secure taxpayer money from the city of Detroit, Wayne County and the state of Michigan. But I have it from several reliable sources that the move to Auburn Hills is a serious consideration. Apparently, The Palace was recently configured for hockey at a private viewing for representatives of the Red Wings organization. Hockey was played at The Palace for years when the now-defunct Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League called it home. Despite the Vipor's shortcomings, The Palace proved to be a great venue for hockey. Word has it that the Red Wings brass liked what they saw. The Red Wings' first choice would be to build their own arena behind the Fox Theatre. The Ilitches have been accumulating property in that area for over a decade. The problem is one of timing. The Wings have to make a decision regarding their lease agreement with the city of Detroit for The Joe in short order. And government coffers are empty at the moment. Bilking taxpayers may not be an option this time around. Olympia Entertainment (owned by the Ilitches) and Palace Sports & Entertainment (owned by the Pistons) compete head to head for concerts and other traveling exhibitions. Olympia operates at a severe disadvantage because they are in an aging facility with very few of the amentities found at The Palace. Time after time, they lose out on big events to their northern rivals. This could very easily be a case of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." It is also being reported that when the two teams make a joint announcement concerning the consolidation, they are also going to announce their intentions to build an arena together in Detroit and move back to the city in the year 2020. The Pistons claim they are at a disadvantage by not being in the Motor City. Of course, it really doesn't matter what they say now because there will be no way to force them to move again or build in Detroit. If the city of Detroit continues to deteriorate at the rate it has been, there may be no legitimate reason for either team to move back ten years from now.
