Exactly. 21 going on 22 Jurco, with 40g, 81p, in 138 AHL games, plus 8g, 15p in 39 NHL games, was too young and his development was damaged by being brought up to the NHL. 21 going on 22 Svechnikov, with 32g, 85p in 145 AHL games, plus 1g, 1p in 9 NHL games (potentially another 9 more games) is too old and his development would be damaged by being left in the AHL. Exactly.

Yes. Kids drafted from the CHL must be 20 years old or have played 4 years in the CHL to play in the AHL. Lol. One of your big complaints with Jurco was that we brought him up too soon.

With Edmonton's win on Saturday, we've now moved to 6th worst. (Same spot as we finished last year.) A #6 has never won the lottery. So depending on whether you lean to the optimistic or pessimistic side of the gambler's fallacy, we're either due or doomed.

Mrazek traded to Philly for Conditional 3rd and 4th Picks
Buppy replied to hankzet40's topic in General
Well, there were at least a couple people pretty vocal about trading Mrazek for "peanuts". Mrazek was 26, and had played over 160 games. Not exactly a prospect. Most likely he's nothing more than what we've seen already, and looking at the more recent half of his play, it would seem far more reasonable to suspect that he'd be below average rather than anything we'd miss. But yeah, opinion. Yzerman traded Bishop because he couldn't afford to keep both, and Vasilevskiy was playing better at the time. Looks good for now, probably not so much if Vas returns to the more pedestrian numbers he had prior years. But that's kind of beside the point. Bishop was a two time Vezina finalist, widely regarded as one of the best goalies in the league, having a sub-standard year, and a pending UFA. Mrazek was just a guy who had a pretty good overall 1st full year, a train wreck of a 2nd, slightly below average this year, and due a hefty QO making him fairly likely to be just a rental. We really did not sell low. If for you it's just all about that we should have kept Mrazek regardless, fine. I even said earlier that I wouldn't have been opposed to keeping him. My comment was intended for people complaining about the return. -

As weak as the Metro is this year, that's not too unlikely. But even if all we end up with is one third, it's arguably as good as or better than what Yzerman got for Bishop. Something for those complaining to think about. -
Looking at ES TOI. Strange how much special teams time has declined over the years. Millennials.

Not 4 years (or 5-6). 2-3 years or 7-8. Though I would expect Larkin (or his agent at least) to push for 4-6. 3 years he would still be RFA at the end. While I wouldn't expect that to lower the hit of his next deal too much, it would at least eliminate most of the risk of losing him. 4+ and he would be unrestricted. 4-6 years he would still be young enough to look for a big deal if things weren't going well with our rebuild. If you could get 7 or 8 years at $6M or less, I think it'd be worth it. It's some risk to be sure, but I don't think that's that much more than what he'd get for 3 years. And depending on what we do with the cap in those years, there some risk in the bridge deal as well. And we wouldn't give him another max term deal unless he earned it, especially not one for "a lot more money". Sure, if he plays like Zetterberg over the next 8 years we would, as we would if he plays like that until he's 32-33. But if he ends up more of a Filppula/Tatar level, we'll let him go or trade him. And in case anyone wants to be further confused: Mantha and AA are basically the same age, both signed their ELCs in the same year, both need 4 years pro for arbitration, both started in GR the same year, both got their first call-up to the Wings in the same year, and for the most part been full-time for the last two. So why is AA eligible while Mantha is not? Because Mantha was born after after September 15th, the NHL considers him a year younger rather than just over a month. So he was considered 19 for his first year in GR, while AA was considered 20. 19 year olds need 10 NHL games to count as a season. So there you go. Half the battle is over, if you believe anything Flint has to say.

I don't necessarily disagree that we could still be a lottery team after adding Karlsson, or even Karlsson and Tavares. Question is if you think we could be as well, exactly why do you want to pay such a hefty price for Karlsson plus saddle us with two huge contracts for players likely nearing the end of (or already past) their scoring prime? No way I consider trading for Karlsson unless I thought he would instantly turn us into at least a fringe contender.

Tatar traded to Golden Knights for 2018 1st, 2019 2nd & 2021 3rd
Buppy replied to hankzet40's topic in General
That's incorrect. Teams that lose in the 1st or 2nd round are ranked according to their regular season finish, with any division winners picking later. Abracadabra was correct. If Vegas wins their division (all but certain at this point), they can pick no higher than 24th. I would even say 25th, as it's very unlikely they finish behind the Metro winner. -
In what decade this century will the Red Wings see their next cup?
Buppy replied to shocky2002's topic in General
Never. Wings don't bring back Holland, next year fans all complain that the new guy is worse while claiming to have supported Holland all along. Out of spite, Chris sells the team to Vince McMahon, who makes them the cornerstone of the new XHL. Just like regular hockey, but with teams occasionally jumping onto the ice during a rival team's game and delivering a few chair shots when the refs are distracted. -
For 1 year. When it most likely won't matter. Maybe if it looks like we have a legit shot at JT you let him go. But that probably (hopefully) won't happen. Worst case we're out a 3rd rounder. Best case he could play well and we could get a 1st in the off-season. 9 years. And where else am I supposed to spit on everyone? A farm? Maybe you have all day to drive to farms, sir, but not I. For someone so obsessed with me, you show surprisingly little insight into my triggers. You can do better, sport. I believe in you.
-
But if you hang on to him and he plays poorly down the stretch, we might not get even a 6th rounder. I'd be OK with qualifying him to give ourselves until next deadline, but I'd also be fine with a 3rd. Wings have 15-20% success rate with 3rd/4th-rounders.

As if I needed another reason to dislike you. Are internet restraining orders a thing?
-
Yes, but the market is even smaller and the return likely to be even less, if we could get anything at all even. If we're looking to trade him after the deadline, it would most likely be because we don't plan on qualifying him, which would mean that if a team was interested they could just wait for him to become UFA. Probably not going to be much in the way of competition for him. More like trading UFA rights than a RFA. Again I say we need to commit to qualifying him if we're going to pass on any reasonable offer. Yeah, you didn't understand the question so you answered it incorrectly. I gave the correct answer. I used the same phrasing you did, Mr. Pot, so if mine was insulting so was yours. Seriously though, don't be so sensitive. I get that you don't like me, and that's fine. I don't like anyone here. No big deal. I wasn't trying to be insulting until you got all offended by me simply answering a question. Maybe you believe correct answers and accurate information don't matter; I think it does. But I don't care if providing them means some precious flower's petals get bruised. So suck it up, kiddo. Not planning to stop. I hope insulting me and attacking my motivations (rather than actually debating what I say) makes you and the rest of the gang feel better. Hope you don't feel like hypocrites or anything.
-
Unless someone has a goalie out for the year, the market for goalies at the deadline just isn't that strong. Even in the offseason a 3rd would be a decent return for most goalies, and we can't wait until then with Mrazek. We either decide we're going to qualify him, put off the long-term decision until next year, or we trade him for what we can get. Right now, a 3rd would be good. 2nd would be awesome. 4th even would be better than letting him go for nothing.

Had you bothered to pay attention, you would have known he was talking about the TB game. But you're right, I made an assumption and I apologize. In the future I will always assume you don't understand the topic. You know nothing. Takes at least 4 paragraphs before I even start to chub up.

It's called AA was out sick against TB. Not benched.

2/9 GDT Red Wings at Islanders 7:00 PM EST. RIP Brenden Smith edition.
Buppy replied to kickazz's topic in General
We're 3-5-2 in our last 10 games. Only one team below us has fewer points (Vancouver; were already below us). Florida has moved from 1 point below to 1 above. We're now within 1 point of Edmonton. We're getting closer to a higher pick, not further away...while still maintaining some semblance of organizational self-respect. -
Watch, now they're going to call up Sproul and he'll turn into a Norris candidate, and we'll all have to listen to it for years just because you wanted to f*** with karma. Thanks.
-
LOL, this makes all sorts of no sense at all. Love how exaggerated this is. Mrazek has only played 163 games in his career. Also, do people really think the future of the team hinges on whatever we could get for Green at the deadline? Is that really a thing that real humans with real human brains believe? Follow-up question if so; why are there not more cataclysmic cosmic events?

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread
Buppy replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Gotta admit, it would be fun to see LW as GM: Turn over the entire roster 5 times between the draft and training camp, then really start getting to work once the season starts. Before the end of October we'd dress our 200th different player and hire our 14th head coach in 12 games. Record of 0-12-0, outscored 104-1, no team left in GR or Toledo, no talent on the roster, no draft picks for the next decade after so many trades grossly over-paying to acquire players then doing it again to get rid of them after a couple days. 90% of our cap space devoted to fines for violating CBA rules and the rest to buyouts and retained salary...the NHL regretfully announces that the Red Wings have suspended hockey operations indefinitely. Like watching a plane crash into a train wreck during an avalanche made out of tarantulas with venom that's made out of microscopic dinosaurs that trample all your blood to death. -
One of the great injustices of our time. D-Mac had an even better final season in Jr., led the OHL in goals and was a CHL 1st-team all-star, but Malts got all the "50-goal-in-junior" cred. Probably the root of Darren's substance abuse problems, really.
