Wings are gonna be a bigger/tougher team

Carkner already signed unfortuantely. I was hoping he would be in a wings jersey
  2. get to know him on the ice. people complaining about this signing, who else could have any videos made like this whose played for the wings recently. Drake is the only one thats a maybe

Where do we go from here? Let's try a youth movement

Terrible penalties? He had one series where that was bad. But the defensive play thing is ridiculous and shows you dont know what youre talking about. I remember Abdelkader shutting down Doan when Babcock bumped ABdelkader to the second line in the playoffs just to match up with him. The wings fanbase cries for more toughness and youth and then say get rid of Abdelkader. There was a thread on HFboards where a lot of other teams were saying they wanted him and that he is one of the better fourth liners because of his versatiity and physical play. Youre all just a bunch of whiners. Leftwinger: If youre saying you want him in a trade for those guys, thats different than some people suggesting let him walk and to cut him.

Where do we go from here? Let's try a youth movement

So tired of seeing release Abdelkader threads. Getting Tootoo and having Abdelkader makes the team considerably tougher. Having just Tootoo, makes it marginally tougher. The guy produces pretty solid numbers for a physical 4th liner that scraps every now and then, he kills penalties and can play any position. Not to mention hes young and this thread is about the team getting younger. If Abdelkader can play wing for a full season with Tootoo on his other side I think fans will change their tune. Until then the same idiots will be calling for toughness, and youth and then say get rid of Abdelkader in the same sentence

    We Need to Trade

Needing to hit the cap floor might mean they take Filppulas contract and someone like Ericcson/Quincey. Flips will be done next season so no long term commited money but still a high enough salary to help get them to the cap floor. The yotes dont want money locked up in one guy like that I dont think when hes not even their number 1 guy

    We Need to Trade

So Yandle seems to be the logical move here. The Yotes have OEL and Runblad young and making ELC money while Yandle is at 5 million for a few years. 5 million seems good. Honestly if they dont do something drastic this offseason or next that playoff streak is looking glum. If they cant get another Yandle type dman, then they need to load the bottom lines with fast, young forecheckers to turn the game into more of a dump and chase style, and then try to trade for some young talent like Ryan up front. With the serious amount of forwards though, us wings fans are in for an active and rumour filled offseason
  7. I actually think Kronwall may be an improvement over Lidstrom last season playing more minutes, so signing Carle would get the wings D back to basically where it was last year. After that firepower could be added upfront like Nash. If they dont sign adman, a move for Yandle has to be made over the offensive guys

    We Need to Trade

Hmm might be time to see what kind of stones Holland has. He didnt overpay the free agents (cant necessarily blame him, he tried), time to overpay for some decently young talent through trades. The prospect pool is rich, and there is a lot of forwards so a couple roster guys can be moved. I would sign Semin if hes being reasonable price wise, and try to sign a top 4 D (Carle). This gives the flexibility to move someone like Flip or Franzen for and have their scoring replaced by Semin, same with adding Doan. Theres definitely a trade on the horizon that could see some young talent coming in. There just has to be
  9. He is more like a Steve Ott than he is a Matt Cooke that is for sure, and as has been shown already with more fighting majors he takes closer PIMs to Bertuzzi than other agitator types lately. Personally, I hope the wings turn him loose and let him go bat s*** crazy howver. Hes also uses big hits and physical play to agitate other teams, not chirping like a little *****. Hes the toughest fighting agitator, and definitely in an argument for hardest hitting forward in the league. And its funny because the wings have NEVER won the cup with 11 fighting majors. 2008 they did have 21 and also employed a guy with a reputation just as bad as Tootoo's, Dallas Drake. He was a complete beast and spark for the wings in that playoff as well. When are wings fans going to realize that A: the bottom 6 has done jack s*** for the wings the last couple years and it needs an overhaul and B: the wings have never won with a team full of *******, and Tootoo helps prevent this from happening

    Bobby Ryan

Seems like the ducks really want a second line center, which Detroit can definitely offer with Filppula. Detroits also got enough prospects that they can afford to part ways with if they have too. I really think this is a legit possibity because trades are gonna come this offseason. Franzen Datsyuk Brunner Ryan Zetty Bert? Samuellson (someone at center) Cleary Abdelkader Helm Tootoo Seems like some kind of trade with Miller/Eaves could happen to get a legit bottom 6 centerman as well as Filppula being moved for a winger
  11. Tootoo is one of the toughest pound for pound fughters in the game too. Once people see him clean some 6'3 players clock after laying out one of their scorers I think most of you will change your tune
  12. I really think he could bring out the best of ABdelkader as well. Having a guy with him who runs around nailing guys and isnt afraid to fight will get Abby more involved and increase team toughness more
  13. Youre the moron. He outscored everyone of our bottom 6 players last year and hes tougher than all of them too. He was scratched against Detroit because Detroit was a team soft as baby s*** and didnt need any tuoghness in the lineup
  14. People need to relax. Tootoo put up 30 points this past season which is more than anyone in our bottom 6 and hes also a legit tough player that the wings needed. I would have rathered Prust but for the price and role Tootoo is fine. Now that hes sober he isnt that bad. You all chirp him but wait til he runs over a few guys and youll all love him. Solid signing. Tootoo - Helm - Abdelkader is going to be a nasty line

    Bottom 6 free agents

Its no secret everyone ants some top 6 firepower, but the bottom 6 is terrible on Detroit right now and could use a makeover. Its my birthday saturday and I'll be gone all weekend so I'm gonna make this thread now. The bottom 6 could use some physicality, and could also use one more NHL centerman (sorry Emmerton). A lot of us fans dont want to overpay, but the wings have 4 players to sign, and are still 8 million under the cap floor! I think 4th line center is a huge need for this team, the wings just werent the usual well balanced team last year they usually are At center in place of Emmerton the number 1 choice would be Gaustad. Decent age, fairly tough, great defensively, big and strong. Amazing face off guy as well which I value in a bottom 6 centerman. He could become overpriced however. He could play third line and Helm down on the fourth could eat up a tonne of PK time as well After him, I think Konopka is the only guy I really would think of putting in there. He can PK, and is a faceoff beast as well. Not a great all around player but provides things the team needs compared to Emmerton. He is physical, a faceoff specialist and will fight quite a bit. For a million bucks, at least he provides something. Dark Horse: Darryl Boyce. Good defensively, somewhat tough, fairly physical and just solid all around player. Definitely better then Emmerton and would come fairly cheap. He works his bag off every single game. I wouldnt mind seeing a physical winger added to the fourth line as well, with a solid center and winger added the bottom 6 would be back to contributing I think. Travis Moen would be my top pick at winger, he is a VERY strong PKer, hitter, chips in offensively and can fight as well. He can be counted on for aruond 25 points as well. I would pay around 2.5 for Moen Number 2 is Brandon Prust. He is one year removed from 29 points, and still had 17 last year. That is very similar production as most of the wings bottom 6 players. He was the third most used PKer on the leagues 5th best PK last year. Hes a big hitter and pretty much the ultimate "energy" player. While producing the same (or more) points as guys like Miller, he will go out there, run anyone, fight anyone and get under the other teams skin. Hes still only 28 as well. This is what us fans have been looking for for the wings. An enforcer that can play the game VERY well. Being from London, Detroit is pretty much tied with Toronto for the closest team and I actually cant see Toronto going after him with Brown already. There are a few other guys I could see helping the bottom 6. Ryan Carter had a great playoff and is a potential center, I also like the idea of David Moss as well. Matt Bradley is being bought out and wouldnt be bad either

who's on the outs if we sign multiple forwards?

Lets say the wings sign 3 forwards as a somewhat realistic number. Homer and Hudler are gone, so you really only need to clear space for one guy. Eaves could be LTIR for a while depending on what his head is saying at that time. If not, expect Emmerton to be waived/traded for a late pick. The wings may however move someone with a little more value to get something valuable. Miller could draw a decent asset like a 4th rounder or something compared to the 7th for Emmerton.

    Ryan White Re-signs With Montreal

Wish the wings would trade for him to play 4th line center

Shane Doan to test free agency

Youre right hes not a wing of the last 3 years or so, basically post lockout except 2008. Hes a wing from times before that however when the wings didnt get pushed around in the playoffs and could find other ways to score goals besides working the perimeter. Hes a wing from back when the wings had forwards that could change the game with a big hit as much as a goal. Hes got a no quit attitude and clearly wants to win. When his team isnt scoring he'll look to change the momentum in different ways instead of going through the motions like this current wings roster that hasnt made noise in the playoffs for 4 years now. Hes what the wings used to be, he can score, set up plays, hits like a tank and you dont like him because he hit some guys hard in the playoffs when the wings played them. And then he actually gave a s*** when his team got beat out. Like I said, wings fans have become babies and used to an "we need to outclass the other team, even when they outwork and beat us" attitude

Shane Doan to test free agency

Youre kidding right? Wings fans are such babies anymore. Did you complain when Drake signed with the wings? Because he is just as dirty and as much of a head hunter type as Doan was.

Shane Doan to test free agency

Agreed. I think in the wings top 6 he coudl still put up about 60 points and 25 goals. Hes a righty so he would see PP time no doubt. He also provides that awesome physical presence the wings top 6 has lacked since Shanny. A little of a Dallas Drake feel to him come playoff time cause you know he would be going balls out all the time and can be a game changer in a variety of ways. I really hope the wings can land him

So What's Up With Abby & Quincey?

Why are some people acting like its a choice between Prust or Abdelkader? The fourth line would look awesome with both, contrary to red wing belief you can actually have more than one physical forward on the fourth line. With toughness and grit such a weakness in the bottom 6, why on earth would people say get rid of the only guy on the team who brings physicality? On wing, hes a great forechecker and big hitter. He will fight and he can chip some points (especially on wing). Put Abby and Prust on either side of Helm and watch the other teams D have fits is what I say

Red Wings 2012 5th round selection- Mike McKee

Oh ok, when I read that I figured it was from this year. Oh well, he is still abeast and has only played D for a couple years. On RWC the wings brass was saying he was by far the toughest in his league and might be the toughest in this draft as well. He seems to beat up quite a few guys anyways. But still the best part is by far the fact that he is actually describes as fast

Red Wings 2012 5th round selection- Mike McKee

Obviously a pick that I love but even better is that I just read hes only played 1 year of defense, so he is very raw in that reguard. He could become like an Ericcson situation where his D gets quite a bit better because he was very raw at one point. The other AMAZING part of this pick is he isnt a big, slow goon. His skating is apparently very good and he moves aronud fast out there. Down the line he could even be switched to forward again if D just isnt working out for him, unleash him from the fourth line and let him run around at anything that moves because hes fast. Great pick! and by going to WMU, we all know he can fight, he had 12 last season which is A LOT in the USHL and he led the league but at WMU he can learn to play defense without worrying about fighting as much. In that fight video above where he works that Ferguson, that guy is a fighter and 2 years older than him and Mckee just tuned him. I can't believe the wings drafted a 6'5, 232 lb 17 year old. Hes going to be a monster and at the very least an enforcer somewhere in the NHL I would guess because he can skate

Why Evander Kane is Worth the Price

Nyquist is 2 years older, and Kane already has a 30 goal NHL season and nearly 60 points under his belt while being fast and a tough player. If that trade is offered straight up I take Kane every single time.
