Consider this: (players listed in no particular order) CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($0.925m) Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($3.000m) Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.866m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Drew Miller ($0.838m) DEFENSEMEN Ryan Suter ($8.000m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.250m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,524,962; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $5,675,038 Now we HAVE to lose some fwd depth. Eaves and Miller aren't likely to be traded imo. I think that with all those forwards Kenny is working on a serious trade for a Ryan or Nash. Trading Fil, Franzen, Mursak, 1st for Nash then signing Semin would be a good solution to this riddle.

Signed Red Wings Sign G Jonas Gustavsson to 2-year deal, $1.5M/yr

Also consider that IF gus picks up his level and becomes possible No1 material like Harding we could get decent assets for his services in a trade considering his age. -
Signed Red Wings Sign G Jonas Gustavsson to 2-year deal, $1.5M/yr

I like this signing. He seemed to have confidence issues in TO. I think that there is less pressure having Howard in front in Detroit. He is also a big bodied goaltender that can take away most of the net. If he's not on, at least he's huge. Also, I wasn't interested in bringing in an old vet and having him out the next season. -
I'd love to have Bernier to play 1/3 to 1/2 of the games this season and let him and howard compete. Its obvious he is truly a backup behind Quick, but in Detroit that wouldn't be so cut and dry. Trade whichever one doesn't perform for big assets at the end of the year. Howard is good, but he isn't a top 5 goalie in the league. Lundqvist, Rinne, Quick are all leagues above and there are a few other good ones like Smith, Fleury, Lehtonen and Miller that are quality and around Howard's talent. On HF they are suggesting he would cost a young player or prospect and a 1st likely. I'd do it. Goalies are hard to come by and can fetch some quality assets from desperate teams. Most teams that want a starter don't consider Bernier ready, and so he may be available to a team with decent but not outstanding goaltending. I dunno, I'm just kicking tires and waiting for tomorrow.

who's on the outs if we sign multiple forwards?
dirtydangles replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Just consider this: Dan Cleary is aging and has a 2.8mill contract with one season left on it. Would it be valuable to sell him now while we can get decent assets for him rather than lose him in free agency next season? If we are re-signing our youth and blowing money on UFAs this season we could use the 2.8 mill elsewhere rather than the 4th line. Furthermore, Eaves has a hefty 1.2mill contract and if he doesn't play every night he isn't worth keeping around when we could get a decent pick for him. Bertuzzi we are almost stuck with unless waived because he has a NMC i believe. Obviously Emmerton and Mursak are less valuable than these guys but that makes them ideal 13/14 guys that come cheap and know our system, I'd move a bigger contract to make room for future. -
http://blogs.denverp...ng-offer/10891/ 24 yrs old From Michigan 6 2" RH shot Plays right wing or centre Former No. 8 overall Avalanche have not qualified him and he will become a UFA. Injury issues the last few years. Would you guys consider this guy to be a perfect fit for what we need? I would LOVE this guy at 3rd line centre and move helm down to the 4th. This would provide 3 scoring lines. OR he could be a backup if we don't land Parise or Semin (we might not want him). Thoughts?

i thought i read on hfboards they were looking to move kovalchuk AND praise so that they had no albatross contracts on the books and make the team more "sellable" to potential buyers. I can understand on one hand why an owner wouldn't want to purchase a team that owes millions of his money to a player he didn't agree to pay, but on the other hand, wouldn't you want to buy a team with players that can win? Idk how true any of this is, but if Nash, Kovy, Ryan are all out there I like our chances at nabbing one if necessary. Considering Kovy is older (29) he shouldn't cost as much (and consider his contract). Having all 3 available should drive prices down as teams won't feel compelled to outbid each other in desperation.

I'm pretty sure the chelios boys are legit. they have been around playing at a high level for a while, no? just thought it was weird to babs' son with an "*" that says "free agent tryout." if it wasn't legit would they bother to include him?

mike babcock jr? 5 9" 150lbs? is that a joke?

Now that Staal has rejected a 10 year deal from the Pens, things get interesting. Nash isn't the only high end player possibly on the trading block. Bobby Ryan's name has floated around too. It would be interesting to see how the individual value of the players pans out now that there are multiple options for teams to trade for. What do you think it would take for each of these guys (considering we trade for 1): Nash (6 seasons $7.8mill) Ryan (3 seasons $5.1mill) Staal (1 season $4mill) I'd say our top trading asset would be Filppula. Then others include Franzen, Abdelkader, Picks, Prospects. So if we miss out on Semin and Parise who would you prefer, and let's hear what your proposal would be?

my only beef is that if we give him this big money cap hit, how will this affect signing smith, nyquist who get re-ups next season?

Only thing is i think Parise, Brunner and Suter get 500K too much and we need cap room to reup jimmy, fil, smith, nyquist next season. Imagine the kind of contract datsyuk will get in a couple years if we sign praise at 8mill.

I'd say his chances to make an impact are bigger in detroit considering the state of our defence now and in a year's time. i'd say vancouver has guys pretty well entrenched at D and Tanev deserves a spot too.

AGREED. would be nice to honour life longers who bled for us and some shorter term talent.
-
a lot... i don't think its happening without smith unless fil AND franzen+ go back. Rather go Schultz and Suter. Then pick up some more talent next offseason.

We could get a 1st and 3rd for him if we let him go via offer sheet... We can't afford to have schultz making 3+ and have to re-up fil, howard, nyquist, smith next year if we do quincey at 3.5+ (assuming we get suter and semin)

My DREAM roster: The only thing is I assume we won't get Parise and get Suter. Just a feeling so I went with Semin here. Imagine that third line with size just terrorizing... The only thing is I would consider moving one of Eaves or Cleary for cap reasons next season and keeping Mursak. CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Alexander Semin ($6.000m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($1.000m) Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) / Peter Mueller ($3.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.000m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Danny Cleary ($2.800m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Drew Miller ($0.838m) / DEFENSEMEN Ryan Suter ($7.500m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Justin Schultz ($3.775m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Johan Hedberg ($1.250m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,058,712; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $2,241,288

YESSSSS I hoped Holland would go with the youth!!!! WOOOOOOO lets sign him. Schultzy u need to sign with the Wings. We don't do this often with rookies, so take the invite. I really want quincey gone. he just doesn't have it together on a night to night basis. This kid basically is a younger version with more upside. Quincey brought a good shot and offensive talents with a LH shot. This kid is younger, has higher potential and has a RH shot. Id do this and maximize assets by trading Quincey.

I understand your sentiment, but nyquist and smith up as rookies is all we can pretty much afford at this point without losing the experience we have. Mueller is an nhl proven player. I'd rather have him (who is young) than rush our prospects a year early. If we were talking about signing an old veteran for a 2 yr deal i'd lose my cool and get very angry. This kid could replace Cleary or Bert next season easily and still have room to promote youngsters next year. I wouldn't call him a girder - due to his skill. I'd say he would be a great fit on a third line with some skill. Such as Nyquist - Mueller - Bertuzzi or something like that (a line that can score). Everyone is saying that we need a better 4th line centre. Helm can do that the best. We would have the top centre corps in the league likely. And I wouldn't consider a 4th line with the likes of Helm to be a "4th line." I'd call it a 3b line.

thread is called a "backup backup option." If holland can't make deals that make the team better would you consider this? I wouldn't want another veteran coming in and getting stale.

considering he has injury issues and is from michigan I be holland could get a good deal on him. 3.5mill or under short term and I would be okay. Let him earn bigger money by proving he can stay healthy.
