Quick question about these types of signings... Per Darren Dreger of twitter: "Red Wings announce the hiring of Tom Renney as an associate coach. 3 year deal. Good things happen to good people. Good hire." What exactly do the Red Wings (or any NHL origination for that matter) do to announce a signing like this? Do they just call up their closest reporter/beat writer and say "Hey, we signed so and so as a coach, considered it announced"?

Do you mean you believe he will be traded or we will let him sign an offer sheet for another team and get a 2nd?

Lidstrom makes everyone he plays with look better than they actually are. That is what happens when you play next to the Perfect Human. Don't let that confuse you into believing that he is not a good defenceman. It is worth noting that his cap hit is only $2,875,000, can slot in our Top 4, and he posses this weird trait where he shoots Right handed (they still make those guys?).

He killed it in the playoffs this past year (9 games - 14 points), had two strong showings at The World Cup, and seems to play well at the international level in general. This is all based on stats, as I have never seen him play but I believe this signing will turn out very nice.

I think he is sexy too. What do you guys think of trading for James van Riemsdyk? He has some great potential and might be slightly cheaper than Staal/Ryan (I actually don't know this for sure; I am just going off stats). Although it might be hard to get him since the Flyers seem to want to use him as trade bait for Nash/Ryan.

I have been wondering, what do people on here think of Ollie Jokinen? Not too much talk of him lately. I have not seen him play much, so perhaps he is not a good choice. He has respectable numbers and has a few good years left. Would he fit in the Wing's system? Capgeek has him as a center, is he able to play as a winger (for Datsyuk) at all? Would Parenteau fit either? He is much younger than Ollie. Also, what if we signed Dennis Wideman and Matt Carle to help out our defense? I know they are nowhere near Suter, let alone Lidstrom status but if Suter cannot be had then we can sign these guys now and find a number one guy later (either in Smith or through free agency next year or so). Do you guys think this may work? Holland seemed to take this approach last year with signing White and saving our money until later. A lot of questions I know, but I have been thinking of them lately.

If this is such a seller's market where everyone is overpriced why don't we sell somebody (cleary, hudler...) and get an over payment in return? silly ideas on Monday morning.

I think I'm going to like him just fine. Do you guys feel he will sign a long term deal with us if the rest of this season/playoffs seems like a good fit? (perhaps this was covered already in this topic, but I have not read every page)

How does his style of play (defensive minded or more offensive minded) compare to Stuart? Or is he more like White? I have not really watched him play, so I was looking for some input on his type of play other than just his stats.
