Exactly! He’s not even underachieving this year.
-
To be fair, you can say this about almost any team in sports. This is what happens when you have parity. I think someone just wanted to be able to say "advantageous distribution of quantum effects".
-
You can look at that two ways. Abby is currently being paid 4+ mil per year and was signed to a 7 year contract which he is not playing up to, hence he is an underachiever. Abby was drafted 42nd overall and was never supposed to amount to anything more then a 3rd/4th line grinder, yet was able to land himself a 7 year 30 million contract, plays in the top 6 and has become assistant captain. Hence he is an overachiever. Truth probably lays somewhere in between. I guess it all depends on perspective.

The other thing, is last year's roster was so different the the previous year. When you have so many new players, teams have less info when scouting you (ie. Vegas this year). Then once teams have a year of footage to break everything down, things change. -
I dont think players look at it that way, most player are happy for guys when they get their "payday" especially on a team like the Wings. I get your point with the boss thing, but most people think they do more/know more then their boss, because most people have no clue what their boss does behind closed doors. Granted hockey is different as its all out there, but I really dont think players resent other players due to their contracts.

I agree with pretty much all of this, except the bold. While I agree Abby will not be captain, I dont think the GM and coach take caphit into consideration, and they shouldn't.

Not trying to be an ass, but why do you just make things up to make a point, it kills your credibility. Weber played for Nashville for 11 seasons between 2006 and 2016, and of those 11 seasons Nashville made the playoffs 8 times.
-
Its true, when you have a 2C who is really a 1C, you have a HUGE advantage. I wouldnt put Boston on that list though, at the time Seguin was on the 3rd line. Also, for Chicago, why did you list a 3C?
-
Pittsburgh is a hard team to use as an example as having the best player of a generation, and possibly the 2nd or 3rd best player of a generation on the same team as the 1C and 2C will always give you a chance to win a cup as long as they are surrounded by decent players.

Where is @shocky2002 when you need a good corsi analysis.

If we can trade AA for a potentially elite D-man, we do it in a heartbeat. If its Larkin or Mantha, we need to strongly consider it. Our organization has shown that it can draft young forwards late in the draft that can turn into top 6 players. All of Datsyuk, Z, Tatar, Nyquist, AA were low draft picks, and even Larkin/Mantha were not at the top of the draft. Name one D-man since Kronwall that we have drafted ANYWHERE was ended up a top pairing guy, let alone elite. We can't bank on UFA's because a young UFA D-man in his prime is not likely coming to Detroit, he is much more likely to go to a team that is on the verge of a cup. We may be there in a few years, but we arent yet.

Through 21 games they are 10-8-3. Last year after 21 games they were 10-10-1 The big difference is last year they won 6 of their first 8, then went on to lose 9 out of 11. Standings wise it is too early to tell, but I think they look better on the ice.
-
If E was 22 and was being paid league minimum, nobody would have a problem with him on our third pairing. Given he is 30+, being paid 4mil+, and is on our 1st pairing, he's under a microscope.
-
An elite D-man in their prime is not coming here, you're right. What I think the Wings should do is make a trade for a kid who has a high probability of becoming one. I dont want to trade a kid for a top 4 guy, I want to trade a kid for a potential 1A guy....a guy like a Trouba, Theodore etc.

Brendan Smith traded to Rangers for 2nd (2018) and 3rd (2017) Round Draft Picks

Remember guys, this thread isnt about arguing about Smith/Jurco, its about the portfolio of a man who knows what a Bogel AND a Swensen are. And lets not forget he ALSO knows what an index fund is, AND an expense ratio! Lets NOT EVEN GET STARTED on a Roth IRA and a 401k!!!!!!! Lets all unite and just mock the ridiculousness of this thread. </thread> (learning my HTML!) -
Not really comparable, Lindros refused to play for Quebec so they had to trade him. The fact that Philly gave up so much though is crazy. At the time Lindros was being talked about in a similar fashion to how McDavid is being talked about today. I remember reading a Becket magazine where they ranked the top players of all time and it had Gretzky-Orr-Howe-Hull-Lindros (as in he would end up here).
-
As far as we know his back is no different then last year, but the fact that we are winning despite him not carrying us is very good news.
-
That's fair. My point is Z started slow last year, and I dont think its unrealistic to think the same thing is happening this year. Players have a tendency to regress or rise to the mean, and I think in the case of Z, he will rise just like he did last year. Though with an older player you never know when the major drop off is coming.

Ya guys lets just move on from Jurco and Smith. I think its fair to say that both came into the organization with potential, and both never lived up to it. You can argue that some of that is on the coaching/management, you can argue that some of that is on the player. Neither would be incorrect. IMO, I would say Jurco was really not given the opportunity, while Smith just never took his game to the next level. -
I agree with the majority of your points, but i feel like this is an attempt to be pessimistic. You can say this about almost any team in the NHL, and if you expect anything but a tight race come the end of the season, your expectations are unrealistic. This is parity in 2017, all teams with the exception of a couple on top and a couple on the bottom are all going to be within 2-4 points. Personally I think its a little bit of everything, with the main reason being the kids, and the secondary reason being Howard staying healthy. Mrazek really hurt us last year. Z has 12 points in 20 games.....last year after 20 games, he had 12 points. Agree with most of what you said though.
-
Its about value, and the kids have value. No team is going to trade us a 1D for for any of our vets that you consider trash. Most players has value and can bring something to the team. A guy like Nyquist for example could probably land us an older lower end top 4 guy (a Daley type) but we dont need another guy like that, but a guy like Larkin could probably land us a potential top pairing guy (ie. a Theodore, Trouba kind of guy). Its not that people want these kids gone, its about filling the most pressing need this team has, and that is a top D-man.

I'd offer AA, a 1st and a roster dump, with this draft being so strong AND us having a chance at a lottery pick, I think Arizona would consider it.

Damn we dodged a bullet. -
Your opinion on this matter is well documented
