I don't disagree with the bold, and I get what you are trying to say, but that just isn't what mediocre means. Mediocre is a term used to describe a skill set, being injury prone does not make a guy "mediocre" injuries make the guy unreliable. Maybe if a guy suffers an injury that becomes a chronic issue and he still plays (ie. a Kronwall situation) he can become mediocre, but that is not what happens to Howard. Howard is very good, gets hurt, becomes bad, then when healthy becomes good again. Again, that is injury prone not mediocre. Howard is an above average goaltender, not elite, not mediocre. Whatever, at this point its just arguing semantics.

Howard had a shot when he was younger because the Wings were better. I am not saying the Wings will win the cup, what I am saying is that Howard on the right team (ie. a Pittsburgh or Chicago) could win a cup. Also Niemi is on Florida not Pittsburgh.

The definition of mediocre is: "of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate:" Calling Howard mediocre (I know it wasn't you), is just incorrect. Mediocre would be a player like Glendening. Was Bobby Orr mediocre because he retired young? Of course not because injuries and mediocrity are two completely different things. The Cup thing is also hyperbole, put Howard on Pittsburgh or Chicago and definitely has a shot to do it. Howard has a career GAA of 2.43 and a career Save % of 91.6% which are better numbers then those who have won cups, its a team game. Two off the top of my head, Cam Ward won a cup and has a career GAA of 2.77/S% 90.9. Antti Niemi won a cup and has a career GAA of 2.53 and S% of 91.2, both worse then Howard.

You're really taking liberties with your definitions huh. Howard is not "mediocre" because he is injury prone, he is "injury prone" because he is injury prone. You can't just change the meaning of words so something fits your narrative. With your logic, back when Crosby was dealing with his concussion issues, he could be labeled as "mediocre".

I've actually been there. Its a really nice city with a ton to do and a really cool Downtown (or as they would call it a Centrum).

Or they could build a new arena AND attempt to get the team back to becoming contenders. I dont think this is a one or the other situation.

There really arent a lot of BIG trades anymore. Off the top of my head over the past say 7 years I can only think of the Drouin trade, Weber/Subban trade, Hall/Larsson trade, St. Louis/Callahan trade, Nash trade and Seguin trade. The cap really has made the NHL less exciting. Ya Holland really is at one extreme with this. I believe Sheahan is the first roster player he has traded (non deadline) since Kozlov.

No, the pick didnt pan out. Sunk Cost. Mistake was made in 2010, not 2017. You can't hold on to a player because of what he used to be worth, you have to be able to make the tough decision and give him up when the time is right. And again, with your logic that means the Sproul trade was a huge win soley based on the fact that we traded a 2nd round pick for a 1st round pick. Again, where they were picked doesnt matter in 2017. You want to criticize Holland for taking Sheahan, go for it. You want to criticize the organization as a whole for not developing Sheahan better, go for it. But to criticize the Wings for trading him because he was a 1st rounder 7 years ago......not valid.

What does that even matter? It's where they are as players now, where they were drafted is a moot point unless the topic is how successful was the 2010 draft. Besides, we got Matt Puempel today who was also a 1st round pick, so it all evens out with your logic anyways.

I'm actually happy you wrote this, kind of helps prove my point. People who blindly hate Holland (or create persona's that hate Holland lol) will bash Holland for everything and anything simply because it's Holland. They refuse to assess Holland fairly on individual moves, because they are fueled on emotion and since they are not happy with the overall direction are just negative on everything. Then when someone defends a specific move, you get a comment like this implying that if you do like the move, you are in support of Holland and his overall work. Or you get the even weaker response of being called "an apologist". Not the case. If THOUGHT A means you are upset with the state of this team and many of the contracts, by saying you you think Holland handled AA well, does not mean that THOUGHT A disappears. Its just like your non playoff team comment, anyone that watches can see we are a fringe team, and that is not a compliment, but the Holland haters are scared to even say that, as it fits their narrative better to say "we suck". I have gone on record many times in saying ALOT of the moves Holland makes are bad. I can go into details if anyone likes, but I don't see the point to keep going over the same things.

I assume the 1.38 number is what the cap hit will be, meaning its technically 1.5 or something, brought down to that. But thats just a guess.

There is nothing more I want then for Mrazek to take back the starting job. It is going to be so much better for us if he can become "the guy" AND Howard plays well enough to up his trade value.

Its not Helm's fault we lost, his miss was one of many things that went wrong. Right off the top of my head, there was Larkin shooting the puck over the boards with 2min left, Yes, Helm missing the empty net, Mazek taking a chance he shouldn't have and allowing the Caps to tie, Daley taking a penalty in OT rather then just trusting Mrazek to make the stop, and of course the winner (though I give Mrazek a pass there).

Discipline issue tonight. You can't take a penalty with 2min left in the 3rd AND another penalty in OT against a team like the Caps.

Does anyone know how many OT games we have lost in the last 2 years that ended on a one-timer? I feel like it happens all the time.

What is the point of taking a faceoff with 0.1 seconds left...if both coaches give the ok they should be allowed to just walk off the ice and let the clock go out. Waste of time.
