Then when you consider that Subban is 28 and Weber is 31, and Subban is under contract for another 5 years (becoming a UFA at 33) while Weber is under contract for another 9 (becoming a UFA at 40) its just not even close. Montreal possibly made one of the worst trades in NHL history. How funny if it blows up in their face year 1. I thought that it would at least take a couple of years until this happened.
-
I agree with this. I am not anti Shattenkirk, I just don't want a giant contract being given out to him. Under these circumstances I would sign him.
-
And that is the key to a player being successful in the NHL, finding a proper role in which they can succeed. Lebda's role was to play #6 d-man on a good team, and he did it. Was he elite, of course not. Was he good, meh. But did he fit into his role and fulfill the duties asked of him, yes he did. As a #6 d-man on the Wings, he was successful. If this new signing can turn into a sold #6 d-man, then I think you can call it a successful signing. Not every player is going to be Zetterberg or Lidstrom.
-
This debate is silly lol. @DickieDunn All Nondescript_D is saying is that Lebda played his role well, and that he deserves credit for that. Does it really kill you to say something nice lol. @Nondescript_D Dickie is a good poster here, but if you are looking for him to throw out compliments you are wasting your time

I see your point about the injury, but I would take the chance. There is no doubt in my mind that if Green was having a Green like season and stayed healthy he could land us a 1st rounder from a contender. Roman Polak got the Leafs a 2nd Rounder, Smith got us a 2nd rounder. That is the market at the trade deadline.
-
lol, I will give you credit as you really don't give up even after your trolling has lost its effectiveness. Trying to turn the tables is an interesting technique, unfortunately nobody buys it. Out of curiosity, outside of @Jonas Mahonas @Bill Berzeench and The Axe, who do I roast? On a side note, does anyone know where I can buy the 3 Faces of Foley DVD? He did a really good job playing three different characters.

Ya at the end of the day, when your team has the #1 center in the NHL and the #2 center in the NHL you are always going to be a contender unless you are surrounded by just crap.
-
ughhhhhh I hope Nashville smokes them. I would love to see PK raise the cup.
-
Why do you assume I'm talking about you? My comments were more so geared towards @Bill Berzeench
-
Yup, some posters just repeat the same thing thread after thread after thread. I dont blame you.
-
At the time, hell ya. In a few years those contracts are going to cripple Minny.
-
He's 35, not 40. But like I said, only if we move some forwards and I agree only if dirt cheap.
-
Wouldn't you rather wait until the deadline and get a 1st round pick? Why would this even matter to you anyways since you want to tank? If he is a liability like you are saying, we will lose more with him which is what you want....right? Why trade him for a 2nd now, when we can trade him for a 1st at the deadline? Don't you want a re-build? These comments seem more appropriate if our team was a contender.
-
Who said this? The only criticism I can remember reading on this board about Suter's contract is the term.
-
With this being a thread about Libor Sulak, what about his signing upsets you?
-
I've always liked Scott Hartnell, but unless we make a ton of changes and all of a sudden have a shortage of wingers I dont see a spot for him.
-
My point wasn't about those two specfically, it was about Bedard in that he wasn't exactly getting the most out of the goalies last season which is why I get the coaching change
-
Exactly, but it's not his fault that the team has not provided him with the proper partner. Green on a 2nd pairing with a great defensive d-man who can pitch in offense would be a perfect use of his skill set. He is a valuable asset, we just need to utilize him properly. I can't say the same for Kronwall (due to injuries) or E.
-
Agreed, unless it's for a superstar (ie. Jonathan Taveras)
-
E and Kronwall you are right, but lets not lump Green into that group as he's at a completely different level in 2017 then those two.
-
At times he did, but he also was there when Mrazek fell apart after his birthday plus Jimmy was not that great in 2015/16. I get why they made the change, plus lets not pretend like Wings fans weren't pushing for change of any kind a year ago.
-
100% agree. We have landed a lot of UFA's over the past few years. Funny how when the "nobody wants to come here argument" is shut down the argument is always shifted to "Well look how they have performed" as if that has any connection to the original argument. In the minds of some, Suters wife wanting to live in Minnesota = Nobody wants to come to Detroit.
-
You're probably right, I wouldn't argue that. I guess my point is that none of us know what any of these GM's are thinking and until the time comes our GM should be preparing for all potential situations. If either of those two don't go #1, I would hope Holland has an offer ready. Most likely won't be accepted, but one thing I have learned in life is to be successful you can't be afraid to ask. Who would have thought Nill could have gotten Seguin for what he did, you never know.
-
Their odds are definitely smaller then they were 10 years ago, but it doesn't mean that you "can't" get anyone, or that you shouldn't try. One thing they do have is the history and linage of being the Detroit Red Wings, and a down Detroit team is still going to have a chance.
-
Really? Look at the UFA contracts given out last year. Best example I can give is a a 33 year old David Backes who is a top 6 maybe even top 9 forward getting 5 years 30 million (got 38 points this year in 74 games). Perceived top D-men don't hit UFA often, I admit anything can happen but to think he wont cash in big from someone I think is a bit naive.
