What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

So you're arguing semantics. Okay let me rephrase it. According to the contract per Holland he was expected to either play for the Red Wings for the duration of the contract or if chose not to could retire from the game of hockey. If he soley retired from the NHL to go play in the KHL, The Detroit Red Wings had a right to excercise their contractual powers to prevent him from playing there or could chose not to take any action. Sure that's your theory. But obviously Datsyuk ended up staying when push came to shove. You should have been his agent instead of Dan Milstein and told him to call the Red Wing's bluff or whatever it is you're implying. Clearly Milstein was too naive since it "doesn't mean anything" From computer GMs to computer Agents we are. Look believe what you want to believe. I presented what Holland stated in his interview.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

Hah! been taking lessons from Billy have ya? You know exactly what facts I'm talking about. Don't try to clump two of my posts and put a false narrative. The "dick move" post was a matter of subjectivity, the contract info are facts. At least within the bounds of what was presented to us by Holland. He couldn't play with the KHL even if he wanted to according to Holland, watch the video posted. Retire from the game entirely or honor the contract for another year. Play the 15/16 and Holland wouldn't have prevented him from playing in the KHL. Facts stated by Holland, summarized in my post. He complied, left in 16/17 some people thought that's a dick move and others didn't. Matter of subjectivity.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

He did have an obligation. It was either play for the Red Wings or retire from hockey. Retiring from hockey would mean no NHL and no KHL. If he went to play for KHL in 2015 Holland said he was going to "Exercise his rights and prevent him from playing in the KHL". If he played in 2015/16 they would have given him the greenlight to go to KHL and not take legal action. Is that so hard for you to understand? They avoided being screwed for 2 years rather than one. And I'm not pissed I'm pointing out facts. For the record they were choosing to be spiteful. They convinced him to stay in 2015 or else. If Datsyuk had his way he would have left in 2015. But he didn't. 34:00 minutes till 37:00 exactly with Dana's question and Hollands response is basically saying what I am.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

No, he was leaving Detroit in 2015. They threatened him to take action if he left and cut a verbal deal that if he stayed till end of 2016 season and he was free to go after that. Also media contract is not NHL contracts. What we do know from NHL contracts is that Datsyuk's only choice was to retire from hockey or given permission by the Wings to go play in the KHL. He got the permission after agreeing to honor the 2015/16 year. Usually the two week notice is a way to end the employment on a good note, in case one wants to return. It's a matter of professionalism. Unless of course there's extreme circumstances. But depending on where you work, if you don't give the notice you can be terminated on paper which would mean putting it on your CV could lead to problems in case someone contacted the employer to confirm the employment history. In which case the employer could just say "we terminated him". Like Trump just terminated The Terminator on twitter yesterday.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

I've never signed a contract saying I'm working till 2017 and if I don't finish it the employer could excercise their rights and sue my ass and take me down. If I did, I'd probably finish the contract to avoid that problem. Or in Datsyuk's case Holland told him to honor the 2015/16 season and if so the Franchise wouldn't take Datsyuk to court for 2016/17 season and prevent him from stepping into KHL. It was a mutual agreement. Datsyuk hired personal lawyers by the way and went to the NHLPA about it too. And it looked like he didnt have much luck. You're smarter than this Dickie, don't act like a simpleton, contract obligations aren't the same as being hired into a job you can quit. Most jobs require a simple two week notice, hockey contracts don't. They require you to finish the contract or retire from hockey or if given permission by the contractor you can walk away. Until then you're the contractor's ***** once you make the signature.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

Lol didn't even see you were talking about Nielsen, I was responding to the thread overall Yeah I agree, it's better to have a consistent lesser player than a superior player for not even half the season.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

I think Nielsen replaced Datsyuk just fine. He replaced him in production pretty much, his faceoff % is around 55-56% (better than Datsyuk's from last year). In terms of takeaways he doesn't quite have the same amount as Datsyuk but Zetterberg picked up his takeaway rate so it evens out. He replaced him in defense, I mean the guy plays on the penalty kill, what more could you ask for. The only thing Nielsen couldn't replace is the possession. You can't replace that because Datsyuk was one of the best possession players. But that's one line out of 4 lines during a game. It's not like Datsyuk plays when all 4 lines are out there. This team is bad because of bigger reasons than Datsyuk leaving. He would have made 2-4 (counting defensman out there) players better than they are at a time. But we have 16 others who need to get their s*** together during the course of the game.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

Put it this way, if Datsyuk hadn't left for the KHL we would have still been struggling to make the playoffs , but we'd be in a slightly better position.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

Ooo.. bad argument. Generalizing dick moves made by people doesn't justify the said move made by Datsyuk. All it does is clump him into the dick move category along with the rest. I don't think anyone appreciates people leaving in the middle of their contract obligations in any field of work. And more often than not those people are banned from being re-hired. Just a bad way to end things.
  12. Mrazek played great, the offense was good but the defense didn't help them out. Sad!
  13. Kronwall screwd that one lol
  14. Mrazek forgot he was supposed to get back into position.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

Indeed, Datsyuk was a hell of a player but the article is moot since Datsyuk was injured most of his KHL season anyways. He was done as an NHL player and likely would have been injured longer this season if he was still here. Now if Datsyuk played most of the 82 games then I'd say instead of being a 13th seed team we would have been the standard 9th or 10th team as we have been. If he was 2008 version of Datsyuk maybe we would have been 5th seed team.

What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL

"If Pavel didn’t leave for Russia with one-year left on his contract, the Red Wings would be in much better shape than they are today. They would have a bonafide A-prospect in Chychrun. They wouldn’t have Nielsen and Helm on the books through 2021. They very likely would have been a better team all throughout 2016-17 and could have been a playoff team. They would have $7.5M of free cap-space at the end of the season to continue to re-tool and finally, they wouldn’t have to worry about protecting Datsyuk, cause he’s retired or Nielsen’s no movement clause and would be in even better shape heading into the expansion draft. " So he screwed the Red Wings over by leaving? I thought we concluded this already...

    Looking ahead at expansion draft

You said he's top 6 now you're changing it to top 6 "minutes" lol. Nyquist hasn't played top 6 role all season. He primarily played on the 3rd line first half of the season. Overall minutes wise with the help of the PP sure he's top 6 "minutes" but 5 on 5 (which is 90% of the game) he was playing with 3rd liners until the last couple months.
  18. Hahhaahahah. This post was hilarious. Good one Joe.
  19. Osgood said "McDavid is arguably the best player in the league" Interesting.
  20. 4th line suits him imo. Should be Callahan - Glendening - Sheahan. Would be a pretty balanced line.
  21. It's all opinion lmao, yours, mine and theirs. You can't measure captaincy through facts unless you're looking at trophies; which would be a weak argument anyways. But if that's the case then "factually" speaking Zetterberg has more Leadership trophies than Lidstrom and Yzerman combined. What do you think about Zetterberg as a captain compared to the other current NHL captains, Where do you rank him?

http://dobberhockey.com/players/Gustav-Nyquist Combined 61% of the season 3rd line combinations with Larkin, Helm, Nielsen, Vanek as partners and 39% on 1st line with Mantha and Zetterberg. Done. And your icetime crap includes PP times, subtract that and his 5 on 5 ice time is less than Tatars. Why? Because he primarily played third line minutes. It's a bit complicated mathetmatics, so I can see why you may have perceived it a certain way.

  24. So I've seen a lot of us talk about how "this coach, or that player" is extremely overrated. I thought I'd make a fun thread about it and see which one out of the following criticized things are truly the most overrated according to LGW.com. It's meant to be a fun thread accumulating past opinions of LGW members. Keep it civil and try not to get carried away into suspensions. Try to expand on why you think the thing you picked is overrated.
