Yeah I think he’s going to want a bridge deal and get a better contract later on. Unless he was given a McDavid or Eichel contract today; which I’m sure he takes no questions asked.

Which would be okay since most of our contracts would be coming off the books and the cap will likely be higher league wide. Larkin is having a good season after having a bad one last year. I don’t think someone deserves an 8 year contract without having proven consistency. Would have been different had he not had a bad 2nd half in his first year and a below average season last year. Nyquist produced a 27 and a 28 goal season and we gave him a 4 year deal. Literaly one year into that deal he stopped earning it.. Toews is another example, although at least he had some cups under his belt earning him that contract. Cant blindly hand off long term deals in the NHL these days. I think Holland knows this and gives him a bridge deal (a 4 year one)

Didn’t realize this. Thanks for the info. Look like the Wings specifically asked for that NYI pick then. That's some strategic trading right there to be honest. Not gonna lie, I'm impressed. Vegas had 3 second round picks for next year. The Wings asked for the best one possible (NYI). The other one belonged to Vegas and third one to CBJ. That second round pick next year will likely end up being in the 30s. Basically a first low end first.

I'm 99% positive Holland has intention of keeping Green and trading him. The problem is Green may want a long term which would make it hard for us.

I’m not interested in re-signing “because he’s going to teach the kids”. No f*** that. We re-sign him and trade him at the next deadline or even the year after that. This guy has to stay and will be a hot commodity for the deadline for a couple more years. Hanging on to him shows some loyalty; he’ll resign. And we subsequently trade him for a 1st when he isn’t injured hopefully. The rebuild is a long term project. Hanging onto Green won’t change his value like it potentially could have with Mrazek (who is still young and unpredictable). Basically I still want us to get a 1st rounder for this guy. Was hoping it would have been this year but obviously no one wanted to give it. So we try again next year (or in 2020- still a strong draft). I’m assuming Holland has the same thought process. Hopefully this time around there’s a modified NTC or nothing it all. And if that’s the case, my theory has some subtance to it.

I think keeping Green rather than losing him for a 2nd rounder due to his injury is better if he resigns Green for another year and flips him over for a 1st rounder when he’s NOT injured next year. We kept Green. Because of that, Green will likely feel comfortable resigning with us. Use this to our advantage to resign him for cheaper short term; making him a good candidate for next trade deadline.

Really hope Vegas chokes in the playoffs first round and gets swept.

I feel like people were saying Tatar and Nyquist wouldn't bring in a 1st rounder. Was I one of them? I know a lot of people thought that. Either Mcphee is an idiot or this trade deadline was just ridiculous.

I don't re-sign him unless it's 2 years and less than the last contract. Anything more than 3 years is bad.
