Karlsson plays on the PK and is one of the best offensive defenseman in the league. Brett Burns too. Really? you think playing on the PK is mishandling an offensive d-man? Christ. Smith had one of the most offensive starts in his time with Babcock. Just because he was put on PK doesn't make him an defensive defenseman. Lots of offensive defenseman play on the PK. For example Erik Karlsson averagers 2 min per game on PK. Not sure where you're getting these theories from, but Babcock deployed Smith more often offensively than anyone. Far as PP, Smith just wasn't good enough to play on there. Kronwall, Green were simply better. Again you're spinning a lot of it because Smith's your boy which is whatever I guess and pointless to argue about. You can victimize Smith but, he just wasn't that good and was developed fine. I mean it's not like Smith went to NYR and sucked, in fact he did really well in the playoffs and they were raving about him. Back then there were no complaints about development, but now that he's declining, supposedly it must have been development...? Damned if you do and damned if you don't Wings.

I have been watching. Did you see the game yesterday? Ken and Mik spent a good 2 minutes talking about Ericsson's improvement. Talking about how he wasn't very good the last few seasons but has done better so far. That's why it's kind of ironic you posted this thread right after a game where they were praising Ericsson. Anyways he won't sit. The org sees him in a different light than we do. He's a big guy that plays tough minutes against opponents he shouldn't be playing. The org still believes in having big stay at home type players surrounded by mobile defensemen. His likelihood of getting benched is probably one in one thousand.
