Next contracts for the young guns

Yeah I forgot he actually did pretty well for awhile. Pretty sure he was the original player offered to NJ in their trade, but they insisted on Hall. Smart move, but it showed that his stock had fallen. Couple years before that they probably would have taken him.

I’m wanting to sign Larkin to that kinda deal whatsoever. Just something I see coming out of negotiations. Oilers fans still want Nuge around, despite his dropoff, When he pops up in trade talks. Maybe cause Chiarelli would f*** up the trade royally.

It was a joke. I’d just like Burns on this team somehow. Dude can dream...
  4. 99.99%. I’ll give Blash a bit of a break.

Trade him and Mantha and a 1st for Burns.

Next contracts for the young guns

Maybe he won’t, but he’s not gonna settle for cheap. He knows if he bails, the Wings are set back. Plenty of ridiculous deals handed out across the league he can reference in his negotiations. He’s not worth ten million a year, but neither is a Eichel if you look at production and impact. Eichel is the best young player they currently have though. That’s worth more money just the same in leverage. I think they’ll work it out, but this is one negotiation that Holland does not have the upper hand in. Might have to just bite the bullet. He gave Abby 4.2 or whatever for 8 seasons. Double that for Larkin isn’t so far fetched.

Next contracts for the young guns

I agree the league is terrible these days with how unproven players get big money. What did Nugent-Hopkins ever do to earn $6 million a year? Be a #1 pick? Eichel makes 2-3 million less than the guy who went ahead of him in his draft year who has vastly outplayed him in every aspect, won awards, and his lived up to the hype of being the best player to enter the league since Crosby. It’s crazy. The cap has done nothing to make salaries more reasonable. In the Oilers, Hawks and Pens cases, they have 1/4 of their combined cap tied up in two players, give or take.

Been in the lower pairings at times in Detroit too. He has his place. There’s times you want him out there, and times you don’t. He’s not a legit two way top pairing guy your always confident in playing against anyone anytime.

Next contracts for the young guns

The Hawks already set the bar with Toews and Kane’s deals awhile back. The top young players on any team are going to want massive salaries, even if they aren’t at an elite level. I’m sure that’s how Eichel got his money. Buffalo needs him for the future, they’ll give him what he wants. They can’t let him walk. Wings may end up in a similar situation with Larkin. He’s the best they have, with the most pressure on him to perform, and he’s going to want to be paid accordingly. Try to lowball him, he’ll bail and sign elsewhere, even for less if it doesn’t come with the same pressures.
  10. While the return was good, and i’m really trying not to s*** on Holland’s parade here (he asked for that return and got it), I don’t think it was too hard to get those picks from Vegas when they have a stockpile. McPhee knows he has a solid roster already that’s gelled quickly and doing wayyy better than expected. Why not try to add pieces and do some damage in the playoffs? I have no doubt ownership wants to take full advantage of that roster and fan base to set the foundation for the long haul as quickly as possible, and told him to go for it now. There’s no reason to expect decline anytime soon. Tatar isn’t a rental, and they have plenty of cap with expiring UFAs July 1. It’s well worth the picks to them. I think you’d be hard pressed to find that return elsewhere.
  11. It’s a perfectly s***ty cocktail of both. Guaranteed to give you headaches for the next few years.

    Grade the deadline

    My thoughts exactly. Well said.

    Wings Interested In Resigning Green

    Agreed.
  14. IF Holland is doing his job with his personal feelings being the major factor in decisions like this, he’s gotta be canned. That’s not how to do things. It’s pretty scary actually. But I guess he’s used to drafted players wanting to stay in Detroit and caving to his contract offers to do so. That’s not going to work anymore when your team sucks.
  15. I agree. Gotta see if Coreau is even an option. If not, have to sign a backup in summer.
  16. Mrazek was pretty crucial to their shootout win in the last game. Another shutout, and allowed only one goal in the shootout. Was a dual with Lindgren the whole way. Of course he’s helping them win games. He’s facing less shots there, but that doesn’t mean anything. He’s shown he can handle more many times. I know your trying to find a bright side, but not much there really.
  17. I’ve said all I can about the mismanagement and very low level of patience with him and ridiculous timeline he was given on a rebuilding team. If he keeps playing like he is, I can see him getting re-signed by Philly. Neuvirth is way too injury prone and unreliable. Might not even have to qualify him if they can get him to decline and agree to a longer contract for less, like was done with Mason. I think he’d be more open to considering that there. If he hits UFA, he’s not coming back to Detroit to battle it out with Howard and deal with Holland again. What’s done is done. If Holland made a mistake, he can’t fix it.

No Green trade. That’s very dissapointing.
  19. Yep. Moved the wrong one imo. Sucks that either one was moved at all. Holland trying to fix the cap hell he put the team in, and I guess that’s the only way. Another guy who dragged out his RFA dealings. Note to future Wings RFAs..don’t push Kenny too far or you may be shipped out. That being said, good trade value wise. Just gotta hope Vegas doesn’t go too deep in the playoffs.
  20. No, but damn that would be hilarious.

Some good news for Holland haters

Bang on. He’s like a guy who’s remodeling his house, but gets screwed into paying too much for a used furnace that quits on him in a year or two just because someone said it would work for the next ten.

2/24 GDT - Hurricanes at Red Wings - 7:00 PM EST

Some people don’t want Z’s number retired? Probably the same ones who are against Osgood’s number going up. Ridiculous. Those are the naturally the next two that should. Fedorov and Datsuyk I can see the debates on, due to how they left Detroit.

I just threw 10th overall out there. Could be lower. We’ll see if Holland sells more pieces off tomorrow and how many losses pile up until the end of the season. Two wins in a row now doesn’t help that cause though. Although the Canes and Rags are bottom teams too. Have to try to lose to lose to them, which they won’t do of course.

    Rumors Thread

So the Bruins signed Gionta to a one year $700k deal “in time for the playoffs”. I thought December 1 was the deadline to sign eligible players for the season? Guess he can start playing only when the playoffs start? Thats kind of a weird rule.
