Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder

Exactly. Even Sheahan would have 20 goals by now if he played on a line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Eaves wasn't doing much in Detroit, injured a lot. So he was shipped out. Sucks it was only for less than 30 games of Legwand (including playoffs) though. Oh well. I very highly doubt Jurco is gonna start lighting it up in Chicago. He will be on the fourth line mostly, or a healthy scratch. No way he cracks these top two lines, probably not even the third: Scmaltz Toews Panik Panarin Anisimov Kane Rasmussen Kruger Hossa Hartman Kero Hinostroza

Yeah. Just something I was throwin out there. I dunno if they currently meet exposure requirements or not. Either way, i'm surprised at the return for Jurco. Solid move.

Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder

Bout time. He had no future with the Wings and hasn't for awhile. He may do better in Chicago, but I think he was picked up more for expansion draft requirements. I thought I read that they needed a couple forwards under contract to expose. Maybe not though. A 3rd is quite a bit for him. Good dealin Kenny. Now stop ignoring calls about Smith and ship him out! Also, if Jurco brought a third, Vanek should bring a nice haul. Get er done! Hahahaha whattttt??

    Drew Miller on Waivers

HAHAHA Holy f***! For a 6'0 185lb goalie, that gear doesn't look illegal at all... He used to stop pucks just by rotating his upper body.

    Drew Miller on Waivers

After Hiller stole the starting spot in Anaheim and Giguere was shipped to Toronto (For Toskala I think. Another victim of the Leafs franchise, where good goalie's careers go to die.) his career took a huge nosedive when he didn't have a great D in front of him. Not even his stuffed chest protector that sat inches above his actual shoulders, oversize pants, and illegal pads, glove, and blocker could help him. If you google his name and "illegal equipment" tons of stuff comes up. Look like many teams made complaints about his gear throughout his career, but not much was done. It's funny that when the crackdown on equipment size happened a few years ago, he didn't stick around the league much longer.

Didn't he only lose 5 games that entire run? Beat Detroit 4-0 (6 ga, 0so) Beat Dallas 4-2 (14ga, 1so) Beat Minnesota 4-0 in Conference Finals (1ga, 3so) Lost Stanley Cup Finals 4-3 to New Jersey (19ga, 1so) Won Conn Smythe Trophy Crazy Michelin Man.

    2017 NHLTrade Deadline Discussion

Yeah I read they were thinking of keeping both goalies for the upcoming playoff run. That's a ballsy move with the expansion draft coming. If they don't move Fleury before the deadline, he will automatically be the goalie the Pens have to protect with his NMC, like it or not. That leaves Murray, their future franchise goalie and a big reason they won the cup last spring, unprotected and 99% surely to be snagged by Vegas. Not a move i'd make, but if they really think they have a shot at a repeat, sometimes you gotta take a risk. And anything that screws the Pens i'm happy with. No cup and no Murray would sure be a good laugh.

Yep. Holland will keep putting other GMs off, they will get another Dman, Smith's value will drop. Then Holland will resign him and say it's because trade offers were simply too low. What he won't say is that he turned down a 2nd or 3rd rounder a few times while talking to Smith's agent and then when he finally decided to ship him out, he was only getting 5th rounders as offers because he took too long because he's Ken Holland and thinks the NHL waits around for him to stop picking his ass. Just get a trade done ffs!

    Drew Miller on Waivers

I'll never forget that Anaheim cup win. Giguere looking ridiculous in gear obv not close to regulation but somehow getting away with it (as he did through his whole career). I wonder if the league would have cracked down on him if he would have achieved what he did. Pronger only getting one game for slamming Holmstrom's head into the glass in Game 3 of the Conf. Finals, and Hasek laying down for Selanne's overtime winner in Game 5, which was pretty much the nail in the coffin.

    Drew Miller on Waivers

Maybe, but he wouldn't make that much of a difference on any contending teams in the playoffs that they would give up even a 7th for him. If they're interested in him, they'll just wait until the seasons over and sign him as a UFA for cheap.
  11. Sheahan is a pretty big guy, but your typical Red Wing (although the team is starting to take less s*** from other teams). Soft. He's a first round pick too, and supposedly knows how to play the game and is counted on for some offense. But he can't even score one. Downey was never drafted and Grimson was drafted like 184th overall, but like you said, at least they brought some entertainment and stuck up for teammates. Downey was also huge in the locker room in 2008 apparantly. Didn't play in the playoffs, but was always there to boost morale and help with whatever and didn't cry about it. Yeah. When you start playing great late in the season, while struggling through quite a bit of it since October, your numbers won't start looking good for a bit. Or the 1995 Cup finals.
  12. I think that save beats even his open net stick save on Boyle in the playoffs. This one he had to move it down and cut the puck off. Tavares to boot. On the other his stick was in one place for a couple seconds. Boyle pretty much shot right at it. Not that it makes it any less amazing, but this one just looked tougher to make. He's had a rough season (just like the whole franchise from ownership down), but battled back and is the only reason most nights that games have been won or are even close lately. Welcome back Petr!!

    2017 NHLTrade Deadline Discussion

Toronto fans aren't used to success though. They're not known to be patient once they experience some, and may want their team to make those deals now because they're starved for a cup. They're only two seasons into Shanny, Lou, and Babs overhaul and i'm surprised at the progress, but getting Matthews gave it a huge kickstart. They still need a few more seasons of rebuild, be patient, not throw away assets, and they may finally get that cup. In past seasons they made the wrong horrible trades (Rask and a 1st, who turned out to be Seguin for Andrew Raycroft? Hahaha) when they had something good going and it set them back again. They may make the playoffs this season, but as you said, their D isn't good enough. They're winning some games mostly due to youngsters like Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and a rejuvinated Kadri scoring a lot of goals, and solid goaltending from Andersen. How will those kids hold up to a playoff run? Can Andersen stay solid, or revert to his early season struggles? Not worth the risks.

That is true. I hadn't thought of that. I'm used to the Wings being in the pile of teams that good players that hit waivers never reach.

    Looking ahead at expansion draft

Exactly. Even if they do take him, all the better. Another sizeable contract with two years left wiped out. Hell, take Errorsson with him!

    Looking ahead at expansion draft

Nah, not even Holland would leave AA off his protected list. Especially now that Mr. I is gone, if he pulled that and he was claimed, that would be grounds for a good kick in the ass out the door. He's one of the few valuable young players to build around in coming years. I agree Z needs to be protected, but Kronwall would be a waste of a spot. He isn't a big loss at this point, and would Vegas even claim him? His best years are way behind him, he's injured often, honestly a liability on the ice, probably near retirement. They will have better options, although they may consider him for veteran leadership, cup championship, and if he does hit LTIRetirement, they can use his healthy cap hit to sign a good second pairing guy anyway. In the end i'd leave him out and protect XO/Sproul. The future is more important, even if those two may not be Wings long term, they are needed now. Very true, can't please everyone. And I want to see the list too. I'm sure most of us do.

I think we just find out their final drafted roster officially. I'm sure protected lists will leak though.

    2017 NHLTrade Deadline Discussion

No doubt. I don't see a 1st happening though for some reason. He needs to be moved if he'll be looking for a long term deal at at least double what the Wing are paying now, but man I wish he was around for another season. Too bad Vegas can't take Howard now if they really are interested. Lol Agreed. I'd like a player like him in Detroit, but it's unrealistic at this point. If Toronto wants to break the bank for a rental, cool. I don't see why they would though. It's not as if they're a Hanzal or Duchene away from contender status.

Toronto looking at Hanzal now as well, but price still too steep.

    Looking ahead at expansion draft

That would be nice, but I dunno if I see it with his injury troubles. He's pretty much missed the entire season so far. If a team trades for Bishop, it's a rental unless he decides to re-sign with that team. If not, Vegas will get a chance at negotiating with him as a UFA before any other team with their early window allowance. I have heard Dallas and Calgary are possible destinations for Fleury, so if one of either happens, Lehtonen and Niemi, or Elliot and Johnson (both UFAs) will be available to Vegas if none are traded at the deadline. There's also Antii Raanta (NYR), James Reimer (FLA), Semyon Varlamov or Calvin Pickard (COL), etc. If Vegas does take Howard though, great. Clears a big contract, and opens up room to snag a backup for Mrazek if Coreau isn't up to the task. It's a risk for Vegas, but could be a good snag if he can play like he did this season and stay healthy. They have to take at least three goalies though, so they'll have options. I'd snag Raanta as well myself. He's looked like starter material the past two seasons. The Rags seem to have good luck with backups lately. He isn't even third best on his own team. Lol

    Glendening vs Ott

^ THIS! Ott has much more playoff experience. 45 playoff games in his career with Dallas and St.Louis. Reached the West Finals with the Stars in 2008, and the Blues last season. Plus he's great on faceoffs, plays physical, and brings veteran leadership. Glendening brings..not much. At least he's 3 goals up on Sheahan though. Lol
  22. He was unbelievable all weekend.
  23. I've heard rumblings about a Mrazek trade as well, but a lot a lot of it is speculation. Just going over options, etc. A Howard/Coreau tandem, to me at least, leaves too many question marks. Injury prone inconsistent veteran and young AHLer who may or may not be ready to be in the NHL full time. If Mrazek was moved i'd hope they'd look elsewhere for a better option. But why put your team in that position to begin with? If you can draft a goalie like Mrazek, you hold on to him. As for the trade for a 1st, depends what draft number and which draft. This season's draft is weak.
  24. Fleury has an NMC and the Pens wan to protect Murray, so if Fleury refuses to trade, they are screwed. But Fleury has said he'd take a trade to have a shot at being a no.1 goalie elsewhere. Bishop may be moved before he' lost for nothing as an upcoming UFA. Dallas is also said to be looking to move Niemi. There's other things going on too.
  25. I know I wouldn't be happy. Why would you trade a goalie who entered the season as your starter and future in goal, who, while he's had an up and down season on and up and down team, has got it back together and is playing unbelievable hockey right now (that save on Daley tonight..holy s***!), is only 24 and has the potential to be one of the elite in the league when you are a rebuilding franchise? Not to mention Howard isn't in game shape and probably shouldn't attempt to play until next season, and at 32, his injuries will only become more frequent and we're always left guessing how he will play when he does return from those injuries. And Coreau, while solid for a bit, eventually showed he isn't ready for anything more than an NHL backup role at most right now. In all reality, he should go back to the AHL for more work on his game, but he can't. Trading Mrazek would accomplish nothing, since he won't bring anything major in return, and it will only create another big problem. Wouldn't put it past Holland to make a dumb move like that though. Lol
