Dude what is so difficult to understand? I am saying IF Holland signs Suter and Schultz...here is your lineup Kronwall/Suter White/Ericsson Smith/Schultz Quincey would be #7 in that lineup....period. Are you saying Ericsson should be #7? Because Smith or Schultz will not be... Kindl would be #7 if Quincey walks... What part aren't you understanding? Holland only gets Suter, then yes, re-sign Quincey and he will be in the lineup...if Holland doesn't get anyone UFA, then yes re-sign Quincey... BUT IF HOLLAND GETS SUTER AND SCHULTZ, QUINCEY IS PUSHED OUT OF THE TOP 6. That is all I am saying...

Suter #20 for sure...I would give Miller, #26, it won't be used anymore. Parise is a bit harder, #90 just doesn't look right, it was ok for Modo because it was a one year last hurrah, even then it looked funny. #91 is out, I think the next person to wear that if anyone will be the kid they drafted this year who wears it (sorry the exact kid's name slipped my head at the moment.) I would say that he may get a whole different number...#15, #14 (I am sure Nyquist would gladly choose another one) #22, #24 (although I think Mike McKee will be the next to wear that one) #25 is open too as well as #28. I highly doubt Gordie allows them to give #9 to him, and i am not suggesting that to do or will...oh and #23 is available as well, forgot! If Quincey walks, then #27 is there too! Sidenote on #23 & #27, Zach's father, JP, wore both of those numbers in his career.... Hmmmm....I wonder if Weber did follow Suter here next year, would Ilitch give him #6? Indeed an interesting situation. I would say #16 is out of the question.. of course there is no rules against a #66 in Detroit...too bad Parise cannot have #99....

Really? Damn! No crap dude...but those are his only options. He got the qualifying offer from Holland already. But if Holland lands Suter and is really on the trail of Schultz like the media thinks he is and gets those guys signed July 1st, Kyle has to either accepet the $3.125M or explore RFA. If he accepts the $3.125M then he will be the #7 guy riding the pine most nights, so he may as well see if he can get signed somewhere else...if Holland signs both those guys, Quincey is not needed here. Not because I don't like him, but it's just the facts. Smith is not going to sit and Schultz will be at a $3M cap hit basically and nobody making $3M is going to sit in the press box, whether it's Schultz or Quincey, so Quincey would be dealt. So, If Holland lands both, Quincey is out and Holland will gladly accept a 1st and a 3rd for someone he only gave up a 1st for...besides they got the guy they wanted in the 2nd round this year, so he didn't even miss that 1st pick he gave up....letting Quincey go ONLY AFTER SUTER AND SCHULTZ ARE SIGNED is the obvious thing to do. Now, if they don't get the UFA's then Quincey has a home... edit: besides, I don't like Hudler and Holland is finally letting him go! So there!

I think Ryan Suter's mailman once delivered for UPS in the Minneapolis area and I think the Parise's were on his route...not confirmed. I would call it an E3 though....

Guys! Duh! The Obvious choice is Lidstrom!

Chelios? I would love to see Larionov or Fetisov but I think they are happy with what they are doing...

The only thing I wouldn't mind about Schultz NOT signing here is if Holland was going to pursue Weber next season. That being said, it is well known that Holland is in hot pursuit of Schultz, at least its been reported, but I think that the likes of Dekeyser being available and us already owning McKee, the D is in pretty good shape without him. Suter is a must. Schultz would be a nice piece to add. OF course if Holland wants to land DeKeyser after his senior year, he will need to keep a spot open next year. Another reason Quincey is extra luggage and needs to be let go. Kronner/Suter White/Ericsson Smith/Schultz (whoever) next year Kronner/Suter Smith/Schultz Ericsson/Dekeyser (whoever) three years Kronner/Suter Smith/Schultz Ericsson/Dekeyser McKee ...Weber would be great, but I do like our D in few years with Schultz/Smith/Dekeyser/McKee. Weber will be expensive and we will already have Suter making a ton...

Parise or not...I have a feeling Semin will be here. It'd be nice if they signed all four Suter/Parise/Semin/Schultz. I am wavering from my dream roster until they are not available anymore, but even with Parise and Semin up front and Suter and Schultz in back, the Wings are tons better than last year, offense and defense.... I too don't think they would be able to afford them, not unless they took major discounts...even over on that pens forum a lot of folks were saying that they hope that Shero doesn't pay them too much...a few also seem to think Parise to them, Suter to us which would be fine with me....there are nice plan b options for offense out there. I am still not counting out Doan until he is re-signed in Phoenix or somewhere else. Honestly I think Pit would benefit from Doan too...

I did answer it. Ok, it's because Holland won't trade any of our good players...and I just bashed Franzen's long contract not Franzen. He should be available for trade along with Cleary. But Holland over-values these guys and never seems to entertain the option of trading them. Or if he does, nobody wants them. I can't say I blame anyone for not wanting a player who says he gets bored while playing...except Holland.

...and have them back here in time for 2pm press conference! ...speaking of Sunday, I am mad yet excited that I will be working til 3pm that day...Mad because I won't be able to have the coverage on all day, BUT the last time I worked on UFA day, I came in from outside looked at the computer and the headline read "Red Wings Sign Marian Hossa" so I am excited to be surprised again with a couple of similar announcements....

What will define Kenny if he doesn't land one of the UFA's and then doesn't do much else but "kick the tires" is not his past, but it will be his unwillingness to part with valuable assets to better his team. If it's true that both Parise/Suter are looking to go where the most talented players are to play with, then the Red Wings with Bobby Ryan on this team is a helluva lot more attractive than this team with an admittedly lazy and bored Johan Franzen. Also, how attractive would it be to all three Americans, who will represent their country for years and YEARS to come, to all play together in the NHL as well? Also with Jimmy Howard who will more than likely be on Team USA for the bulk of his career as well... I am not saying that Anaheim would take Franzen off our hands, but somehow, someway Holland needs to make this team more attractive to Suter and Parise...if trading Franzen/Nyquist/2nd to Anaheim for Ryan gets the job done, then do it. This is what will define Holland's off season...whether or not he will let his balls loose enough to do WHAT HAS TO BE DONE to make this team survive the next 20 years...he's been kicking the tires for a few years now, it's time to upgrade those things!

ageed, plus they lose Niskanen...I know they want to trade Martin, but they have to have a taker. I am sure since they are trying to clear cap space, they wouldn't want players in return... are there any rules in the CBA against trading a player the caliber of Martin for a "bag of pucks" just to dump his cap hit?

Like I said in the other Parise thread...make your offer the most attractive ANYWAY you can. You can only offer them so much money per the CBA and a lot of teams out there can offer the same amount, so you have to make your offer the most attractive. Offer ANY and EVERYTHING you can to get these guys here...then tell the rest of the NHL to suck it!

Kenny will have just as much cash to offer both of them...I know you guys are convinced that Z will be the C, but hear me out, if that C is something Kenny has to dangle in front of Suter or Parise in order to have a trump on everyone else, then so be it. In this knock down drag out fight called UFA, you have to make your offer the most attractive to the player...Pit can offer the max, Minny can offer the max, a lot of teams can offer the max, Detroit can offer the max...but Detroit also has a vacant C they can offer... I know you guys have said the C needs to be earned, but you cannot tell me these guys haven't earned a C in all their years in the NHL. Holland and Babcock respect these guy to the nth degree (along with Z) and I am sure they would not hesitate to put that C on one of them if that were the deciding factor between $8M in Pit and $8M in Detroit... I am sure Z wouldn't mind either, if it meant landing these guys and winning multiple Cups for the remainder of his contract...when it comes down to everyone being able to offer the same amount of cash, it's all about presenting the most attractive package.

Here is a question...Every article I read it says Pit now has $14M in cap space....as does capgeek.com. Great, super, but when the Wings are referred to the amount is never constant. These two articles are a perfect example, one says the Wings have $20M and the other says $19M....yet capgeek says $24M....WTF!?! If we are going to use PIt's available amount from capgeek, then lets use it for Detroit too. $24M look WAAAY more appealing than $19M, even though it is still more than PIt, I sure would like these reporters to paint Detroit's picture in the actual light it is in, not a grimmer one... ...carry on, back to subject. Suter to Detroit is MORE important than both to Detroit...

He's gonna play somewhere... Let's just say Holland says, 'Here is your qualifying offer, that is all I am going to offer you." Kyle has three options: 1. Accept the Qualifying Offer 2. test the market as an RFA, he should get a taker somewhere for more than $3.125M or 3. Take the Wings to arbitration where (with the crappy season he had) he risks the chance of being rewarded a lessor contract than $3.15M. The smartest thing for him and the best thing for the Wings would be to explore the RFA world. IF nobody else wants him then accept the qualifying offer...but by then our D corps should be full...so he will have to be traded.

Whats unlikely? Thats the RFA compensation rules. If he signs an offer and holland does not match, holland gets compensated....cut and dry.

Nice that Detroit is on the favorites list, but the author forgot to mention Smith as a former teammate.... Man if we strike out on all these guys, I will die....since holland can, match any offer, if they dont sign here means the allure of the Red Wings has been doused.....it will be a dark day in my household....

If they both sign in pit, I wont be able to watch hockey anymore...guarantee buttman is behind this!

...and if he signs somewhere else for more than what he was qualified for, Holland gets a 1st round AND a 3rd round pick in compensation...no brainer to me...

GD! I forgot about Ott...would be a nice pickup... Do we have a link to the Red Wings tendering the qualifying offers? Strange that they only qualified Abby....good that they only qualified Quincey...I can see those draft picks coming soon! Hopefully Edmonton or Montreal picks him up! Lottery pick, here we come!

I am going with my fantasy roster until they are not available anymore: FORWARDS Zach Parise ($8.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Bobby Ryan ($5.100m) Damien Brunner ($1.000m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.250m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Jeremy Welsh ($1.100m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($8.000m) Ian White ($2.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Justin Schultz ($1.100m) Danny DeKeyser ($0.825m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Al Montoya ($1.000m) ------ SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,070,833; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $3,229,167 There are always back-up plans....obvious one Semin in for Parise or if Ryan doesn't find his way here in a trade. Parise AND Semin would be nice...but then again, if Ryan isn't traded for, then I will have to put Franzen back in...like I said, this is my roster until they are not available anymore... EDIT: I know Dekeyser is going back to Western this fall, but I don't like Kindl in there, so I put Danny in.
