Ya, a good indicator, eh? No Parise? No Problem....Semin and Doan will fill the order... How about Doan and Moen? That would be an anouncer's nightmare....'Doan from Moen back to Moen to Doan, Doan Scores!"

You just said right there what I have been saying all along! It's his spot to lose...so since you feel the same way, we could have avoided the bickering and useless typing... Holland will guarantee the spot, Babcock will start him and when or if he fails, someone else comes in...that I agree with....the spot is Schultz's until he loses it....if he signs here, and God I hope he does!

Funny thing is, I really don't know why he left to begin with....something about the old guys and new guys...hell he played 3 more seasons, he could have stayed and that would not have changed to outcome of 2008 and could very well have changed 2009. He could have had 4 Cups if not a 5th...I really don't know why he left... Hmmm.....number retired? I would say not, because then you are opening up others who are borderline...If you retire #14, then you have to retire #91, #30, #8 maybe....it's just opens a big can of worms and then we will be just like the Avalanche... I say #5, then #13 for sure...verdict is still out on #40...

Yes, he will be given icetime. Holland has said it, Babcock will give it and continue to give it until he loses it. He will not have to beat Kindl/Quincey for the spot, if he signs here, it will be his to lose. Snotty nose or not, if the organization guarantees him ice time, he will get it, until he f***s up enough to lose it....it may or may not happen, but he will have the spot, no matter what happens to Kindl/Quincey... It's written in black and white, it doesn't matter who YOU think deserves the spot, you are not Holland making promises....

Yes, exactly....He has had plenty of opportunity to crack this lineup...Ericsson only spent 3 seasons in GRR before making the lineup and Kindl wasaslo there for 3 FULL, PLUS played for Kitchner 3 seasons prior to that, he was more than ready to come to the NHL before Big E, but for some reason he couldn't crack the lineup....wonder why....

That is even better...I just would like to have it done before he turns 35 to avoid that issue if he cannot fulfill the contract...

Uh....Kindl played in 55 games last season and 48 games the prior season. Last year was not his first full season in the NHL, so yes, I do know what I am talking about... PLUS he played THREE full seasons and some change in GR where he was less than stellar amassing a nice -58 in +/- and a whole 89 points... Listen, I am not saying get rid of him, I am getting rid of Quincey and keeping Kindl, BUT Kindl will not make the top 6 if Holland gets both Suter/Schultz. If Holland really wants Schultz here, he has to promise him playing time, if Kindl is bumped because of it, then oh well that's the business. If for some reason Schultz farts, and he might, then he'll be put up in the box, not coddled. Then if Schultz complains and *******, trade him. Bottom line is Holland is going to give Schultz that #5/#6 spot and it will be his to lose...Kindl and Smith will rotate the #6/#7....But if Quincey signs then Kindl is out...

I understand, and I don't hate Quincey, but if Holland gets Suter/Schultz and guarantees Schultz a spot everyday, that will make Quincey/Kindl/Smith the #6/#7/#8 guys...so if you ditched Kindl that will put Quincey and Smith rotating the #6 spot and you will have on lots of nights, a $3M player sitting in the press box healthy... I don't think Holland would like that...Sort of like when they got Dom, even though Osgood was a better goalie than Manny, they still dropped Ozzie because they didn't want to pay him $3M to be a back up...its just business.

It won't hurt us....right now, per capgeek, we have $39M in cap space next season...add to that Suter $8M, Parise $8M and Schultz $4M (I just averaged up) that still leaves $19M to re-up Jimmy and Smith. Jimmy will get $5M (as long as he plays like last season before injury) and Smith will get Schultz type numbers....Nyquist will get a nice raise, but nothing too huge, maybe $2M-$2.5M...so that is $9M for Howard/Smith and Nyquist at $2.5M that still leaves $7.5M...Cleary's $2.8M and Miller's $500,000 will be coming off the books, so that is now $10.8M, Emmerton will probably be gone already too so now we are at $11.3M, Ian White will be gone, now it's $13.9M....and that is to re-sign Val and bring up another defenseman...then Holland will have to address Pav the following year... If I were Holland, I would be looking to extend Pav SOON! #1. The CBA may change the rules on these longer contracts, so it would be best to get Pav extended NOW so the new rules won't effect the front loading process. #2. Pav turns 35 before his current contract is up...if he signs a contract while he is 35 or older, if he retires the Wings are stuck with the cap hit until the contract is up...if he signs now, or before 35, he could retire half way thru if he had to and the cap hit would retire with him... I say extend Pav right now for, he'll only play, what, at most, 5 years after his current one? Give him a 5 year extension NOW so just in case he cannot complete the contract do to health or whatever, he can retire and the cap comes off....

Kindl? Too good to be #6/#7? He has been given TONS of opportunity to take a spot, year after year, he has never been able to secure one, and now his #7 seems to be in jeopardy.... If Holland signs all three Quincey/Suter/Schultz....Kindl is out...I hope it's Quincey that is out, but even then, Kindl is still #7....

of course....but ya never know, if they are in that much need for NHL defense, they just might...of course they may just keep the offer in the 2nd round pick range so they don't give up that 1st...that would be fine too...

Look, Holland has said to Schultz that there is a open position for him, that means top 6...if Holland signs Suter, he's #1. He Holland signs Quincey who is #7? Smith? I doubt it, so Holland is going to sign Quincey to sit him in the press box for $3.125M? Ya right! Quincey will get an offer sheet from Edmonton (after we steal Schultz from them) of $3.5M. Holland will not match and the 1st round we traded for him will be a forgotten realm, because Holland will get a 1st/3rd in return for Quincey... It only makes too much sense! Now if somethin happens and Suter and Schultz do not sign here, then sure, re-sign Quincey all day, I am ok with that, but if Suter/Schultz do sign here, Quincey is the odd man out... there is no other way to look at it,... Yes, this was my exact roster (minus MacDonald) I put up weeks ago, before I started trading Franzen here and there. It is a nice roster and I would be excited to start the season with it! (edit: minus Brunner too of course since he hadn't committed here yet...duh!)

He could be a nice piece to have...young and big. Miller and Eaves aren't gonna be around forever...I dont even know is Eaves is gonna be healthy this year or not....he could be a nice depth pickup! I would't hate it! He wouldn't replace Parise, but a 3rd/4th line grinder with some scoring touch? Yes!

http://www.mlive.com..._their_pur.html I just read the above MLive report and wanted to post it in the Justin Schultz thread....I literally just looked at this thread 10 mins ago and it was named "Justin Schultz." When I came looking for the thread to mention the Mlive article, I couldn't find it! You got me on the title change! Anyhow, I am so charged that Holland is going after this kid!!!! Doesn't mean he will sign here, but I can't ask for Holland to do anymore than he is, he may actually take these old "kicked tires" for a spin this July! Awesome! Get R Dun Kenny! Get R Dun! Suter - White Kronwall - Ericsson Smith - Schultz (??????) ...Can't wait!!!

I have been doing some reading and research on the Wings picks...I can honestly say this is one of the Wings best drafts in a long time. I can also honestly see all 6 of these kids being in the Detroit when their time comes. The only one who may have an issue is the goalie, Paterson, only because Howad is still young and Mrazek is doing so good too! Now, he may not be a Red Wing, but he could make it somewhere else, but the other five? I can see them filling certain and different roles on this team within the next 3-7 years. I think McKee and Bodin are going to be HUGE (no pun intended) surprises to the NHL world and once again, Holland will deemed a genius! De Haas may have a bit of a challenge too considering Detroit's interest in Suter and Schultz. If Holland lands those two or even one of them, the Wings have a great young core of defenders who will be here for a long time. Kronwall, Ericsson, Suter, Smith, Schultz, if he signs Dekeyser, and also there are two kids in the top 10 prospects Sproul and Ouellet. If Holland gets Suter/Schultz then eventually Dekeyser I can see Sproul and Ouellet even having a hard time cracking this lineup anytime soon, but again De Haas looks like a great young defenseman and should make some waves in GR and eventually, if not for the Wings, somewhere in the NHL too... Good on ya, Holland! (now go and get Suter and Schultz) (note: Kindl and Quincey were left out purposely... )

Well, if he wouldn't be offer anything more than $3,364,391 he may as well accept the $3.125 qualifying offer from Holland. No use in changing scenary again for $200,000. I believe he will get offers of $3.5M elsewhere though...we'll see, but thanks for the updated RFA compensation! I copied it so I know the new totals!

Well if it's true and he has decided on Van, then it will be out soon enough! I will be just a bit angry. especially since Holland was after him too...I am sure Holland's offer was very attractive....interesting to see if he indeed chose Vancouver...

Honestly, if the Wings miss out on Parise, if they then opted for Semin and Jagr, it could be pretty good for the team too! It's not Parise, but it can be a patch until the next off season when the potential UFA's are a bit deeper... BTW, anyone given any thought to Brendan Morrison? Could he perhaps have his fire relit being teamed up with Bertuzzi again? Just curios as to a lower level UFA possibility...also how about John Scott for a #7 d-man in place of Kindl?
-
Hmmmm.....You will probably get flamed up for this, but I for one know how it is...I have a buddy who is/was/is again (different story ) dating Dan Dekeyser's sister and he has let me know some things here and there, I also am very good friends with Manny Legace's father in law who is still very good friends with a lot of Red Wings and Red Wing execs. So I can understand where you are coming from with some inside info....hopefully your good authority is right! Thanks for the info, if it happens there will be many happy Red Wings fans!

Well that doesn't sound like a #7 or a GR bound defenseman there. I certainly hope he comes here. He and Smith will bring youthful energy to a defense that was kinda stagnant last season... I am telling you if Suter and Schultz sign here, we are sitting pretty for years to come! Holland MUST address the defense first and foremost, the O is secondary, albeit important too... This should be the pecking order on July 1st: Suter then Schultz then Parise or Semin or whomever else is a backup plan to Parise...trade or whatever.

Top Swiss-leaguer Brunner to sign with Wings, Babcock has big plans
LeftWinger replied to evilzyme's topic in General
Brunner is going to come in and be Hudler's offensive replacement. The difference is, he seems to have a better defensive game and actually cares about the physical part of the game a bit....If he puts up 40-50 points he will be considered a successful signing...- 139 replies
