speaking of retiring, I sure wish Sergei would sign a one day contract with the Wings so he can retire in the uniform he rightly belongs in! Of course with today's news, it may seem like he may be jumping on the coattails of Nick a bit and I am sure he'd hate to steal any thunder, but maybe he could do it sometime during the season...Nick/Homer/Sergei all "retiring" at once...certain HOF's? Well, not Holmstrom but definitely a helluva retirement class!

One for the ladies!

Welsh signed a contract LAST SEASON to play the rest of the year with Carolina...he is an RFA come July 1st. He won't get a contract over $1M so there is NO COMPENSATION to Carolina for a team signing him as an RFA...He could very well be in the Detroit Organization come this July...

Well, right in Detroit it is 7:05 PM...looks like 10 hours earlier there maybe?
-
I actually would not mind that roster what-so-ever...except I see Vokoun coming here instead of Harding... Honestly, with a $70M Cap(possible) and Lidstrom NOT coming back, I could see a trifecta signing of Vokoun/Semin/Wideman out of Washington... edit:Let Quincey go for the 2013 draft picks...Goodbye Hudler! Oh, that will sure make me happy!
-
Zetterberg...and when he retires...Helm. Ya, I would think Cleary will be done after next season...

Glenn Healey says it all!

I said it earlier, but with all the hoopla, it may have been overlooked....Queen, The Show Must Go On! -or- These Are The Days of Our Lives by Queen as well... Or if you want to not be on the sad side....Kickstart My Heart -The Crue!

Nah, whats worse is that we had to watch Lidstrom retire bowing out in the first round...we'll have to watch Brodeur retire possibly hoisting a Cup...now that'll suck! Lets hope LA humiliates the Devils!

Young times!

http://espn.go.com/nhl/ Well, its official...now that ESPN, the AUTHORITY on the NHL has it, so it must be true! Of course it comes after the NBA playoffs report, NASCAR and Hold Em news! Seriously, time to change this teams makeup...with Lids and most likely Holmstrom going, that officially ends the "Dynasty Era" of the 90's Red Wings... I know Dats was there in 02, but other than that....Wow, what a group of players I got to watch I went from 1979 and the Dead Wings to Yzerman and Gallant and Probert to Feds first game to pre-lockout season....HO.LEE.s***! Best Players EVER...
-
This joke(post) went over like a fart in church...
-
Ok, how about this angle...Lids retires, then about a month before the playoffs, makes like Selanne and comes back for one last run! Hmmm.....
-
If true, how lucky have I been? Yzerman...Fedorov...Lidstrom...now Datsyuk...no other fan of ANY team can even come close to that in this era! ...Crosby who?
-
With Lids possible retirement tomorrow AND the Cap possibly going up to $70M, look for Holland to make Ryan Suter the absolute highest paid defender in the NHL...for 10 years minimum...
-
anyone got a link to Queen's "The Show Must Go On!" It's time to retool!
-
Its a great question! Also, like I said, if it is just a conference call, no way is it a retirement...
-
Well if this is the case, retirement. You better believe Ryan Suter will be the highest paid defenseman in the NHL...Could Suter this year and Weber next year be in the plans!?!?!? ! Anyhow, if it is just a conference call, I don't expect it'll be a retirement, but if it is indeed a presser, then adios Lids! I remember a game vs. Chicago in your rookie year when you got hit in the visor with a mixed drink and the entire visor was covered in strawberry mix! Sorry, and all the Cups and goals and Norris', etc... Thanks Nick for 20 years! And maybe for just ONE more!

Honestly...I believe that Holland being the evil genius that he is, gave up his 1st round pick for him KNOWING that all he has to do is qualify him for the exact same salary he made last and knowing he will be looking for raise, Holland planned on the 1st and 3rd pick for him coming back for him all along! (or Quincey accepts the qualification offer and Holland gets a solid #5/#6 for barely over $3M... It's amazing when you step back and look at the big picture...I feel like doob sometimes when I hate on Holland and then realize what the plan was all along! Cukoo, Cukoo!

Gee, this lineup looks vaguely familiar....I have had it exact in my sig since the Wings were eliminated. (sans your 4th line UFA) Plus I originally posted one very similar if not the same in the "Devellano believes...$70M) thread...Glad to see I have some similar goals and dreams as Holland! I do like the idea of a big 4th liner..Moen? But if they want to sign all those positions PLUS Holmstrom (if he wants to come back) that would mean one of Emmerton or Mursak is gone. Plus Hudler is let go and we have an extra 1st and 3rd in 2013 after Quincey signs for $3.5M+ somewhere else...(lets hope a lottery type team!)
-
So we'll know soon if he will become a UFA or re-sign... The Preds have to ask themselves, which D-man do we want to keep, Suter or Weber. I cannot see them investing $7m+ into two defensemen EACH. Plus already having Rinne at $7M. I am not saying it won't happen, it just might. But right now, they only have 8 forwards, 3 D and 1 G signed. Can only guess at the Cap, so going with the current $64.3M they have $32M to sign 5 fwds, 4 D and 1 G. If they gave Suter/Weber $15M of that I think that would leave a lot of $500,000 - $1.5M players left to fill their team. Like I said, it could happen. Hey, at least they'd have two of the premiere defensemen and an real good goalie locked up for a long time! I guess it could happen... of course they'd be in a world of hurt after next season, but that is what they pay the GM te big bucks to do, right? I sure wish that we'd get Suter, but if he isn't going to sign here, I'd rather him stay right where he is, so he doesn't move on to Pit or St. Louis, Chicago, etc...We're used to him in Nashville, and despite last playoff, we know how to handle them together.

Hey, nevermind, I figure out the anti-duck kid is Schultz. Just read the DETNEWS article about him being on the Wings list of players they may be interested in... I just love the fact that Holland is looking and drafting players from the NCAA, it really speaks volumes about how far The United States has come in developing young players. Now, if Holland were to sign Schultz, Dekeyser, Welsh (for GR) along with Parise and Suter (for the big club) I have NO DOUBT that this organization will be competitive if not REAL contenders for years and years to come! Even if for some reason Parise and Suter do not come here, our prospects would be at or near the top of the NHL for sure! I know I tend to go a little hard on Holland a lot, but once I step back, look around and realize a few things, I am really excited about things! Of course I cannot say enough how much I want Holland to get those three college kids under contract!
-
Well said! I really hope that Holland does sign Dekeyser (who is the anti-duck kid?) and I REALLY hope Holland sends an offer to Jeremy Welsh. In 2-3 years, the prospect of having Smith/Dekeyser on D and Sheahan/Welsh up front really excites me! Add to that the experience that Nyquist and Jarnkrok may have from being in Detroit for those 2-3 years, I believe the future looks pretty bright sans Lidstrom. I don't like that already I see Tatar, Pulkkinen and Jurco falling down the prospect list a bit. I just hope maybe its because of a couple of players getting hot and not those guys getting cold. Speaking of cold, poor McCollum, is he just not what the Wings thought or is this just a classic example of someone who was in the minors WAY too long and he is past overripened?

I tend to agree, but what if there isn't any money Cap-wise for next summer? That being mentioned, I got a strange feeling that with the uncertainty of the CBA, Holland just may offer a few ONE year deals to any or all UFA's he tries to sign, just in case the Cap decreases with the new CBA. I know most experts agree and have said they believe the cap will increase and that is fine, but would Holland risk signing a few more LONG term deals and risk having to buy out players before the season starts? I hope and hope that the Cap does indeed go up and until they are signed by someone else I am holding out for BOTH Suter and Parise...whether they are one year deals or ten year deals. But if neither happen due to them not liking the offer or not wanting to come to Detroit for some reason, I know Holland will find the next best options...I just hope it's not re-signing only players from last season.
