2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils
LeftWinger replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I don't doubt it, since Canadian teams rarely make it to the finals, they have to grab on to certain players, and Brodeur being Canadian and Quick being American, I guess they want the Devils to win...too bad CBC...just like Roy in 2002 when that is all you could talk about was his game 7 heroics from the past, well that game 7 was the worst played by ANY goalie EVER! And now your precious Marty will not hoist another...stranger things have happened, but down 3-0 in the finals? Buh-Bye! -

I think you can put a fork in the Devils...Now Brodeur can retire with LESS Cups than Lidstrom and Holmstrom and McCarty and Draper and Maltby.... Sorry Devils fans! -

Did you see Gretzky shaking hands with Parise at the start of the game? I swear I saw his lips say "Mickey Mouse Organization" followed by a "f*** Me!" -
Franzen is the best at nothing...best in the NHL? Have I mentioned Helm is a no trade? Helm will be Captain after Zetterberg retires, Helm is here for life...

neither does his team...he is probably thinking about Detroit! -
44....(i know it's been said, but that is the count I come up with too)

This exactly! If Holland is going to go with a Schultz over another seasoned D-Man (Wideman) then absolutely team him up with Smith (former teammates) but I think they would be #5/#6 instead of #3/#4. No bother though. Definitely Quincey needs to walk and Holland can get the compensation for him, that just makes the best sense in the whole Quincey situation. Sure would have been nice to have the #19 pick this year, but if Quincey signs somewhere else, we could have a top 10 next year! Perhaps a lottery!

Vokoun moved to Pittsburgh for a 7th Round pick.
LeftWinger replied to Diluvian04's topic in General
Exactly...I think Holland wants to stay around the $800-$1.2M range for a backup...I am glad he didn't trade and sign him for $2M... -
I'd trade Franzen and J. Andersson for Alex Burrows....oh wait, that wasn't the question... Sorry!

Nick is just downright impressive on and off the ice

I would assume it is the Detroit News/Free Press. EDIT: Yes, it was the Detroit Free Press...Yesterday's. 6-3-2012 -

Good question...maybe Shero was the only one to answer the phone...I just wonder if Holland is gonna stay with Mac or upgrade.... -
What About = T.J. Oshie of STL., Evander Kane of WIN
LeftWinger replied to MrBest7's topic in General
Honestly, they would both look nice here and add to our lineup something we lack...and I don't think that the OP's salary's for the both are too high either. With that being said, I don't think neither of them are worth a 1st and a 3rd round draft pick. Holland would be trading 2 1st's and 2 3rd's for Oshie and Kane... I can think of a couple of better players that I'd give that up for...Rick Nash being someone worth 2 1st's for sure. -

Awwwwww....Poop! Guess that part of my "roster" won't happen now... I didn't think he would get $2M per year anyhow...too expensive for my "roster." Guess I will jump on the Harding bus until he is either here or gone... Vokoun well worth the 7th round pick, but $2M is pushing the limit...I was thinking more like $1M since he signed in WAS for $1.5M and lost his starting job to a rookie on an EL contract, that doesn't sound like he deserves too much of a raise, but this is probably why the CBA is gonna be a doozy again this year! I hope this doesn't mean the "top" UFA's will be getting $9M & $10M offers.... EDIT: Didn't know this, but I just saw that Nabokov re-signed a year with the Ilses...$2.750M. So much for not wanting to be there and so goes his chance at a Cup! I guess I'd rather see him stay there, than go to a rival! -
Actually, with Holland's track record, there is no reason not to believe everything will okay. Is he facing a huge adversity for the first time in his GM career? Sure, but this is what he gets paid to do and he has had great success before, so until is indeed fails (which he hasn't yet) like I said, there is no reason not to believe everything will be okay... We have no first round pick this year, BUT, if Holland allows Quincey to explore his options around the NHL and he signs somewhere else, Holland will have TWO 1st round and TWO 3rd round picks in 2013. One of those 1st rounders could very well be a top 10 if Quincey signs with a bottom dweller. Which may also be used in a trade scenario, Holland could get a nice player back for a top 10 1st round pick...I realize that this is all speculation and relies on Quincey signing an offer sheet somewhere else, but with the 4 or 5 prospects that are NHL caliber, even if this doesn't happen, I still think the Wings will remain competitive... Exactly how many early round exits did the Wings have between the 1998 and 2002 Cups? 99, 00, 01...two 2nd rounds and a 1st round exit...That didn't really deter a few UFA's from coming here then. Same with 2002 to 2008...we had a couple of first round exits then. I have said it before, Detroit may not get ALL the high end UFA's available but the ones they want, they usually get. Those UFA's may not get the highest salary, but when they do sign here, they usually finish their career's here...why is that I wonder?

No way, Helm is the deal breaker... There has to be a young prospect that could be thrown in there instead. I don't mind trading Kindl or Franzen, but I say no to trading Helm...Would they take Abby in his place? I would hate to trade him either, but if it is down to one or the other, Abby has to be the one... This would be something though: Trade for Green and Laich, sign Vokoun, Wideman & Semin... (that is if Suter and Parise fall through) that would weird acquiring 5 NEW players all from the same team! Although Suter and Parise seem to be the #1 priorities, I think if Holland landed those 5 listed, it wouldn't be so bad....Add Doan to the mix as well, I think we are sitting pretty good, even if we lost out on Suter & Parise, then next year, throw the basket at Weber! Slap! Ok, Ok, I am awake now...thanks!

Why is it, when we talk about "floaters" in the NHL, it always seems to be European players? Do these Euro's just don't care when it comes down to it? Is the NHL not as important to them? Do they get their money and just mail it in for the rest of their careers? Are there any North American floaters? I am not singling out the Euro's, but it just always seems when the word "floater" is brought up, it seems it is always referring to a European player...More times than not...What about the term "locker room cancer" I hear this thrown around alot and that seems to have been said more so of Euro's too, but at least I have heard it about a few NA's...strange if you ask me...wonder what is behind this...coincidence?
-
No....not that he is not worth the money, but there is no way Holland gives up 4 first round picks for him... Now, if he only signs a 1 year with Nashville and he becomes a UFA next July? Yes...throw the bank at him...especially if we already have Suter!
-
No, not even...Holland HAS to qualify him with a contract since he is a RFA, or he will become a UFA. He made $3.125M last season, and that is all Holland has to offer him to "qualify" him. He will probably not accept that contract and will look elsewhere for more. If he signs a contract offer ANYWHERE ELSE in the salary range of $3,013,435 to $4,520,150, Holland gets compensated with a 1st AND a 3rd round pick if Holland does not match...nothing personal, just business. Especially if Holland lands Suter and maybe picks up another NHL ready #5/#6 defenseman... If they sign Quincey for $4M, then I think that is flushing the first rounder down the toilet. On this team, Quincey is just not worth $4M...IMO. Especially if he is going to be #4/#5/#6 ranked...he is more valuable on another team, especially if Holland lands Suter...You could never TRADE Quincey for a first and a third, but since he is an RFA due to make upwards of $4M, you may as well take the compensation...

The world isn't over on July 1st if Holland doesn't get Parise or Suter (not until December 21st) there are plenty of Plan 1a options out there that will cost a ton less... These players have all been mentioned or listed by us, news media, etc... plenty of times so I won't get into the names. Do I want Suter and Parise? Sure! But if we don't get both or even one, Holland will have his tricks up his sleeve. The only thing I hope is that if they sign elsewhere, its because someone overpaid them, not because of personal feelings towards Detroit or that Holland only offered them $5M or something. The only way I am mad at Holland is if these guys wanted to come here, bu Holland didn't offer them enough. If they signed aomewhere else for $7.5M or less and expressed interest in coming to Detroit for the same salary, then I will be upset with Holland for not wanting to pay them...but like I said, I hope Holland tries to get both and offer's them a huge salary to come here, but if he tries (without lowballing them) and they don't sign here, that is fine too, just make this better and I will be happy!
-
Players I DON'T WANT to see sign in Detroit: \ Jiri Hudler, Kyle Quincey, Ty Conklin...
-
Quincey is not going to sign here for less than $3.5M, Holland is a genius. Trade a 1st rounder for a guy, see if he helps or solidifies your D (he doesn't) then qualify him, let him explore RFA and sign elsewhere, receive a 1st AND a 3rd as compensation...you cannot script it better than that! Pretty much, trade a 1st for him, trade him for a 1st and 3rd... I hope Columbus signs him!
-
Jeff Petry would make this team, over BOTH Quincey and Kindl... I'd take that exchange in a minute! Also Corey Potter would be a good #5/#6/#7 over Kindl for sure!
-
Ya, no GM would ever want to do that..sign a 40 year old who sat out a year.... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/wings/2006-07-31-hasek_x.htm ...oh wait...

NHL Salary Cap Temporarily Set At $70.3 Million For 2012

(temporarily) -
Dont know what you are smoking man....Quincey only made $3.125M and there is NO WAY neither Helm or Abby have earned a $2M contract yet....Helm MAYBE could get $2M if he wanted to hold Holland hostage and look for offers elsewhere, but then that would just show what kind of player he is...Abby doesn't get above $1.25M. $3M TOTAL is the MOST these two will cost to re-sign...Quincey will be gone. On this team he is not even worth $3.125M, but unfortunately if Holland wants the picks in return, he has to tender him a qualifying offer of just that, $3.125M. If Kyle signs ANYWHERE else for $3M-$4.5M, Holland gets a 1st and a 3rd for him in return. Holland couldn't trade him for a 1st & a 3rd, so he would be stupid to offer him anything that would be considered over-payment for a #5/#6 defenseman (on our roster) and let him get an offer for $4M from someone. Sure he is a top 4 league wide, but not here, especially not if they sign Suter and Schultz...
