    Ducks re-sign Getzlaf 8 year-contract

http://www.sportsmanagementworldwide.com/courses/athlete-management-sports-agent/salaries The high and low end salaries for all the major sports is much less. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_agent Wikipedia actually has the high and low from 4% to 10%. Thats because of the parity in the NHL.

    wings arent winning the cup

I agree with this. The parity in the NHL is just insane. First step is make the playoffs. After that, anything can happen.

Agents don't get paid 10% of any contract.. Even if they did, they can take 10% of my 6.5 million dollar salary.

    Ducks re-sign Getzlaf 8 year-contract

Yea, Dats has 2 Stanley Cup rings to show for it and Kronwall has 1 Stanley Cup ring. Why take $8 million from a team when you can take $6.5 from another team and have a legit shot to win a cup. Hell, I would rather take less in that situation.

    Ducks re-sign Getzlaf 8 year-contract

Getzlaf is a cornerstone piece for the Ducks. Like Dats, he is going to be paid top dollar. So will Perry and Ryan. Not surprised at this contract. All the people who were on capgeek and saying that Perry and Getzlaf would each sign for 5 million per year are obviously crying right now.

Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy

If the comparisons are going to be similar, will everyone here be saying the same thing about Hossa who will be making $1 million a season with a higher cap hit than Franzen's?

Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy

This was a really good article in the Freep. Well worth reading. http://www.freep.com/article/20130307/SPORTS05/130307002/Winging-Motown-Time-stop-booing-Marian-Hossa-blaming-Johan-Franzen
  8. If it was that easy, the Glen Sather and his free spending style in New York would have yielded 2-3 stanley cups in the same era. Instead, his higher payroll teams didn't even make the playoffs. Nobody wants a player that has 1 goal on the season or a guy who is out due to injury. Ian White is the only name in there we could get something for, and we wouldn't get a 2nd round pick for him. We could probably get a 1st rounder for Fil, but is a 1st rounder worth it? http://proicehockey.about.com/od/prospects/f/draft_success.htm

Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy

If we are going to compare pay to pay, then Hossa is getting paid over his cap hit as well. Just saying.... The Franzen haters are going to be just that....haters. Really nothing I can say that will change their minds. From my perspective, he is what he is. A $3.9 million dollar cap hit player that led the team in goals the last two years in a row. Franzen also spent 6 games injured and scored just as many goals as Z did in 22 games that season. Not saying that Z didn't deserve the MVP, but if Franzen wasn't injured, it could have went to him. I will edit my statement and say he helped deliver us the cup, because no one player "delivers the cup". Thanks for the point out on that.

Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy

The playoffs is what a lot of money of a contract are based upon. Franzen is a clutch player that has delivered a cup for us in 2008 and helped us to the finals in 2009. For what he gets paid, he more than earns his contract. I could see the hate if Franzen was making $6 million a season.

    Holland looking around

Lids had nothing to prove either, yet he stayed. Rumors were all over that he was going to go back to Sweden and he never did. Unloading Dats would be a major mistake and would set this franchise back seriously.,

Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy

I sure wish I could have made a decision knowing what the future would have been. Holland made the best decision he could at the time. Franzen took less money and he was as hot as a pistol. Hossa went to the Hawks. If Holland had a crystal ball that worked, like everyone else here had, then don't you think he would have signed Hossa instead? Everyone here berating Holland for the decision he should have made in hindsight is pretty lame. That being said, Franzen has earned his contract money unlike other players.

3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

I wasn't a big fan of hockey until back in 1994-1995. I did watch a fair share of games on ESPN classic though. I can tell you that if two teams made it to OT, most of the time they just played defensive to protect their point. Neither team "went for it" unless they had a reason to do so, such as needing a point in the standings at the end of the season. If you lost in OT, you lost the point you got for making it that far. There was no incentive to go for that extra point unless you needed it. I guess we will have to agree to disagree here. I have been trying to find some data on the number of ties in each NHL season, but so far no dice. So I guess we are just going off our gut feelings.

No sense of saying more. The problem is that some people here think that its realistic to believe that a good goaltender doesn't give up rebounds ever. Even the elite of elite goalies gave up rebounds.

    Every goaltender gives up rebounds.

3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

Sorry, I disagree. Teams back then didn't go for the win either. Points were key. If you lost in OT, you lost the extra point. I saw many games before the shootout came about where the teams just protected the point they got. Its not like every team went for the win, because if they did, then there wouldn't have been as many ties as there was before the shootout.

I like the finality of it personally. I would never accept it in a playoff game, but in the regular season, its fun. I really enjoy it.

The Blackhawks haven't lost in OT. They have lost in SO three times.. So even if they were going against the Flyers run in 1980, they would have still gotten a point for getting through OT and it ending in a tie.

3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

I guess it depends on if you like the shootout or not. I like them. I am assuming you don't like them by your statement. I would much rather have a game ending with a winner/loser in a shootout than a tie. I thought the amount of ties in hockey before the shootout were absurd.

Detroit was playing with 3-4 guys back for the last 7 minutes. When Chicago tied it, they dropped that strategy.

3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

I would like to hear an explanation. Its not against the rules. Oh, and he is the only guy that does it because he has the skill to do it. Why can't Dats do what Kane does? He probably could because he has the skill to do it.

3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

I agree. That game could have went either way. The Wings scored 1 goal, and trying to win by scoring only one goal is very rare indeed. If Ericsson didn't take the penalty, it could have come a variety of other ways. The point is that its dangerous to play defensive in hockey and protect a 1 goal lead.

What? Skate slowly toward the goalie and score? No other player has the skill to do what Kane does thats for sure.

3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

Well, we got our point. My analysis of this game is simple.... The Wings played average in the first half of the game and picked it up the second half of the game. Its hard to win games when you only score one goal. After the Kings game where they went into the third period with a lead, you would think the Wings would have been able to capitalize, but no. Jimmy played a great game today. He deserves a star for his efforts. Not bad for an "average" goalie. Franzen didn't pick it up until the half way point of the game. He has to give a full 60 minute effort. Overall, we earned what we got, which was a point.
