Matt 1,049 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 Does Joey get a better shot at starting at the Jets rather than those other teams. Yeah, but if the Jets hadn't made the move for Ramsey and still had Pennington on the roster it might be different. I just don't see how they could justify adding Harrington at $2M with those guys on the roster.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 The draft is where you get players you couldnt ordinarily bring in as UFA's. Pittsburgh will draft a WR or two because they cant get a solid #2 receiver to come in on the cheap and play in that offense. If Detroit has a similar problem like at OL, they need to draft those positions. Problem with the Lions is they have more needs than they have picks Can you imagine the success that Lendale White would have if Pitt was able to get him? Talk about a perfect fit. Can you say 20 TDs??? Wasn't there talk of the Steelers looking at Michael Robinson from PSU in a later round? Looking for the next Randal El already! timothy1997 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 I am curious to know who is going to get Gabe Watson. Watson could be a 2nd round or later steal.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 Actually, most mocks having him going in the last 10 picks of the first round. Mostly rated behind Ngata and Bunkley, funny enough. He's probably got some of the best raw talent of those guys but there are severe questions of his heart and commitment...

I just don't see how they could justify adding Harrington at $2M with those guys on the roster. IMO, i think Harrington is best at Baltimore. They need a QB bad there and have always had an offense that doesn't need a great QB to be successful, ie Trent Dilfer.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 Im not sure we'd be able to move up all that much with the two 3rd rounders offer, maybe somewhere in the low 20's of the second round. I guess if there was someone there who we really could use then id be all for it. Man having Williams and Rogers would have such an effect on the whole defense. I have nightmares about seeing QB's having all day back there while guys like Keith Smith and Stanley Wilson get picked apart. I mean come on...they can only cover guys for SO LONG before they get burnt lol. I dont see Harrington to the Jets at all since they got Ramsey. I kinda see Baltimore being the team that jumps up to get him, especially if the organization is yet to be sold on Kyle Boller. Boller did start playing well though, but maybe they'd want Harrington's presence to help push him..

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 see i dont see where picking up Mario Williams would be that great for this team. Don't get me wrong, he is going to be a great DE. However, as a group. The Lions have one of the best DE-DT groups both in starters and in backups IMO. I see too many other holes that the Lions need to fill in before we add more power to that side. Of course that goes against what Marinelli wants/is all about, so it wouldnt surprise me if they made that move.

I think the fact that someone like James Hall has had any success is more a testament to how good Shaun Rogers is. Hall is average at best, as is Redding. Kalimba is the only one of the group that i can see ability in...but he's been around what, 5 years now? Plus our secondary is always banged up, a good pass rush is a MUST or we'll be getting picked apart. If we had Williams it would help the entire defense, whereas drafting a LB or DB would just help in that specific area.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 Ok analogy time! James Hall/ Corey Redding is to Shaun Rogers as Mark Mowers is to Henrik Zetterberg. Throw Mowers on Hank's line and sure, he'll look ok...but alot better than he really is. Same thing with the Lions DE's..
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 If the Lions drafted A.J. Hawk I would cry tears of joy. Considering he has a Monday morning class in the same building as me, I could be the first to have an autographed AJ Hawk Lions jersey. I like the Lions at QB now. McCown has a lot of potential and Kitna is a good veteran, although he's getting to the point in his career where most QB's go south in a hurry. I'd like the Lions to build up the OL and pretty much anywhere on the defense. Specifically the secondary, but the DL is probably a priority. As usual, hope springs eternal this time of the year for Lions fans.

Yeah, that would be great too, although his injury in the Michigan game is pretty worrysome. I dont see Bobby on campus though...so I doubt I'd be able to hit em up for his autograph. Actually, about Hawk, first day of class Spring Quarter I was headed into the building for my first class and I held the door for a guy I heard walking behind me. I turned and it was AJ Freakin Hawk. All I could think was, this guy is about to filthy rich, but right now, he's just like me. Only athletically talented and famous.

Not to mention super ugly..but I guess that doesn't matter when you got tons of cash. Adding Hawk would be a steal with our pick, but I was thinking do you think Chad Greenway (Iowa) will still be around in the 2nd round? Getting Greenway would be almost as good as getting Hawk. I dont know, I thought Greenway was a bit overrated. I watched him pretty closely when Iowa came to town, and since it was a blowout, I had plenty of chances to watch him. He didnt fill up holes, sometimes he seemed lost on his coverage...but then all I'd hear is how great he is. I'm not convinced he'll be a standout NFL player, but I certainly think with a little work on defensive schemes and responsibility, he is NFL caliber. Matt 1,049 Report post Posted April 12, 2006 Greenway will be gone in the middle of the 1st round. An Iowa LB in the 2nd round to watch for would be Abdul Hodge.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Latest mock draft on yahoo has the lions picking Huff. Also mentions that the Saints at #2 are likely to trade down. Is this where the Lions can make a move. What would they have to give in order to move in this slot? a 2nd rounder?? Who would they pick? Mario? Brick? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Asl....=yhoo&type=lgns
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 It'd take a TON to move up to No. 2 and if the Saints are trading down I can only see them dropping a few picks (4 or 5) and not all the way to 10. Honestly, the only team I think they could make a deal with would be the Jets or the Broncos, but I don't think the Saints want to drop as far as 15. I'd be VERY happy with Huff... He's been fluxuating a lot lately (virtually all *higher* in the draft -- specifically to SF @ 6) but hopefully he's there. If the Lions, by some miracle, were able to get the No.2 pick I'd say it'd be 70/30 in favor of Williams. Just think, if Hanson had missed that damn field goal against NO we'd be freaking out with anticipation over that No. 2 pick...

Should be interesting because we dont have any huge holes to fill, mostly depth needs this year Reggie McNeal or as we called him here at A&M, "the Real Deal McNeal" is the fastest QB in the draft this year. I think given a chance in the NFL he could be a sleeper at the QB position. Since he won't be playing QB if the steelers draft him he could become the next Antwan Randel el(fast reciever who makes throws on trick plays). But anyone who drafts him, proceed with caution, he is somewhat injury prone. Edited April 13, 2006 by Aggiewingsfan
