Bigger Playoff Disappointment: Wings or Pistons?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Assuming the Pistons will go down in Game 6 in Cleveland (which is very likely), how would you rate the Pistons playoff meltdown versus the Red Wings debacle?

Both teams were the number 1 seeds in their respective playoff brackets. Both teams were favorites to reach the Finals in their respective leagues. The expectations from the media and the fans were sky-high for the Wings and Pistons.

The Red Wings and Pistons have brought nothing but disappointment. I can't believe I am writing this: Thank God for the Tigers! I hope the Cats can bail the Detroit sports fan out of the doldrums. GO TIGERS!

IF the Pistons were to lose this series...they are without a doubt the bigger disappointment. I think everyone just assumed they'd breeze to the East Finals, then would most likely beat Miami again. Hockey is alot tougher to get through, and there were quite a few Wings fans just on this site that didnt think they'd do well.

If the Pistons lose, theyll be the bigger disappointment.

As Lou said, everyone thought they would breeze through the East. In hockey, teams are much more upset-prone anyway.

As others above me have said, if the Pistons lose there's no doubt they will be the bigger disappointment.

After basically cruising through the second half of the season and all the talk about how determined the players are to get back the Championship, I honestly thought there was nothing stopping Detroit this season. All hope is not lost, but it’s not looking good.

WINGS..The Pistons have yet to be eliminated. The Wings were the top seed in the league.

The Pistons were also the top seed in the league. They are the two time defending Eastern Conference Champions.

The Pistons, easily. It will be one of the biggest chokes in recent memory. The Wings weren't even supposed to win the conference let alone the entire league. The Pistons were expected to blitz through the regular season (which they did) blitz through the first 2 rounds, beat Miami and then beat the Spurs in the finals for revenge.

If the Wings had been to the WCF the past 3 years, it would be the Wings.

lol I was thinking about posting this topic - but not until the final dagger is put through the Pistons (if it is).

Pistons easily. Upsets don't happen as much in the NBA.

Cleveland is <<<<< the Pistons as a team, whereas there is not as much difference between the top and bottom seeds in hockey.

Considering the new CBA in the NHL, the Wings overacheived in the regular season. I never would have guessed they would have the best record in the league again this year. The Pistons were expected to compete for the #1 seed from the start.

Steve Yzerman or any other Wing did not "guarantee" they would win game 6 to the press. <_<

The Pistons were lucky to win game 6.

The Pistons really couldn't have played any worse in games 3,4 or 5. The Cavs were lucky the Pistons underestimated them.

Now that it is *likely* the Pistons will lose to the Heat (still haven't given up), I will say that the Red Wings are clearly the bigger disappointment. Even if the Pistons go down - they made it to the conference finals. They are one of four teams left standing. Sure we expected them to take the title - but they at least got close (I'm not cutting them any slack by saying this because their on-court play has been flat out horrific).

The Wings got bounced in the first round - they were only one of 16 teams left standing. I would have to say that is much worse. I expected them to get to the WCF at the least. Losing to the 8th seed is shameful - and I don't care that the Oilers are going to the SCF - doesn't say much about the western conference imo.

So at this point, although both teams are disappointing- I'm choosing the wings - who have been golfing for a month already.

I still think the Pistons would be the most dissapointing, they talked the talk ever since the game 7 loss of the finals last season, they did everything they said they would except as of yet win the championship. The Wings never said anything of the sort.

I hear you on the talk. The trash-talking the coach, the whining, the cocky attitudes of the Pistons are sickening. The Wings - or most hockey players for that matter - handled their loss with much more class.

I put that aside and ask if I was told before the NHL or NBA playoffs started, whether the Wings going out in the first round or the Pistons going in in the ECF would be a bigger disappointment, and I still come up with the Pistons.

The WAY they're going out is much worse (if so), but nonetheless they still went further.
