Mighty Wings 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2006 http://tsn.ca/columnists/darren_dreger.asp HE could be waived if the leafs sign carter. If this happens, any thoughts on O'neil? Has underacheived over the last few years and also battled injuries. However, he is in his prime and is a quality player when he's on top of his game. Asia13 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 (edited) I think O'Neill would be a good acquistion. He would for sure help our right wing since its pretty weak right now with Williams, Holmstrom, Draper and Samuelsson as our current right wingers. He's a good physical player and knows how to collect garbage goals. A decent replacement for Shanahan if you ask me. I'm all for him EDIT: On a sidenote I forgot that his brother was killed in a car accident last year and that might motivate him less or more..I'm not really sure. Either way I'm willing to give him a shot Edited September 1, 2006 by Asia13

Rice 42 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Enh, I dont know if he's still got it. On one hand if he could return to form I think he's the type of guy the Wings could use. On the other hand, I doubt he returns to form. No thanks. Just use Kopecky.

theman19 47 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 (edited) i read on a hurricanes fan board (he's on of the hurricanes most beloved past players) that he has a fear of flying to. That obviously is messing with his nhl game. If he could get his head screwed on right he'd be exactly what we need. Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Why not take the risk, espiscally if the leafs take most of his salary.

Many Leaf fans believe the only reason O'neill struggled last year was to due to the fact that he had lost his brother in an accident which is understandable. Also according to leaf fans (take it for what its worth) O'Neill has been working really hard over the summer to get back in shape. This sounds very promising and like you said he's the type of guy we could use if he gets back to form. I really think he can get back to form this season. I'm not questioning you or anything but isn't Kopecky most likely going to be a 3rd/4th line player this season? Just curious, thanks. PS. Like I said before, I'm all for O'Neill Edited September 1, 2006 by Asia13

Yes, this season he'll probably be a 3rd or 4th liner, if he makes the team. But, why delay his development even more by using a roster spot on a 30 year old? I dont really see the Wings winning the cup this year, just because how strong the Western Conference is. This year is a transition year. O'Neill would be a good pick-up if the Wings needed to get over the hump. They don't.
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 He scored 19 goals, 19 assists last year in 74 games.... Now that isn't half bad, since Holland said in the past that hey'd at least like to add a 20 goal scoring winger... Also the fact that O'Neill will actually hit is a good thing too. So I say we let Carter go to Toronto, then make a trade for O'Neill... He'd make a good addition on the second line.
