Cheli is the man plain and simple. A guy his age that still hangs with all the young talent in the New Faster NHL is just amazing. Brett Hull didn't like the new fast pace and felt it was time to go, Cheli could have done the same thing but chose to stick it out and is still a effective reliable player. guys like him have a pure passion for the game why else would you keep playing it his age, its not like its about the money or anything. Hes won a Stanley Cup so its not that its all for the love of the game so Hats off to Cheli. Play as long as you want and you've already got all my respect. DreamsofHope 2 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 Any team could use a player with passion like his. Plus his style of Hockey is rare on this Wings team. I'll take him as long as he's around.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 You hear people bitching about how Chelios should just hang 'em up, hes so old, hes not what he used to be etc, etc, but what people dont understand is that hes awesome in a 6th guy PK specialist role. I challenege anyone to find a better #6 guy. Not to mention the experience, leadership, smarts, and cheap price that go with him.
Legendary D In 03 50 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 One of the few online "funnies" that I honestly laughed out loud at. Oh, and I love Cheli and agree that he should stay til 60, if he feels it's okay. Word, LDi03

Sooner or later, Chelios is going to end up a huge liability. Look at what happened to Fetisov. However, that's not my main issue. My main issue is this; when is Detroit going to develop youth? Schneider is standing in the way of Kronwall right now and numerous of veterans have done the same before him (not Kronwall specifically). Chelios will keep players like Quincey, Kindl and Ericsson out of the lineup. Edited February 19, 2007 by RyanBarnes!

Well this may only be really true to young north american players...but having a young deffenseman on a line with cheli is like having a coach on the ice...Lids is awsome but he doesn't really play on a line with the up and comers. He did with Lijla, but I think that kid needs a surgeon not a scientist. I think his words carry a lot of weight with the "kids"...AND he's hillarious. RyanBarnes! 293 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 For Chelios to be able to play with any young defensemen, there needs to be a spot open for them. That's usually the 5th or 6th spot, currently held by Lebda and Chelios. Will they ever be ready if they don't get the chance?

Flip-check 6 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 Amen! Cheli has to stay forever for one reason: He's the only guy who can take an interview, and not have to collect his thoughts before every bombarded question. And, you know, he's pretty great. Yeah though... the rookie spots do matter, I think. That's the most practical and sensible concern about Cheli being on the roster.
