let's face it we got an awesome deal with zetterberg's current contract,as well as lebda and it got me thinking we should sign some guys to longer deals that can benefit us in the longrun ...who do you guys think we should lock up longterm?

my picks would be ...

jiri hudler - he's really impressed me lately ..... 4 yrs 1.25 per

valteri filppulla - better all around then hudler .... 5 yrs 1.50 to 2 mill per

kyle calder - someone we badly need , though i think hes overpriced now ...4 yrs 2.5 per

lilja and lang, drop calder and hudler

I can't believe you said Lang. I would keep him on a short term contract because he is so sketchy when he plays. Calder and Hudler have impressed me a lot lately and they seem to only be improving. I would rather lock up Filpula since I like his style of play and his work ethic more than Hudler but Calder can give him a run for his money.

Is this some sort of joke? Filppula and Hudler are not dumb. Theyve both come to play and have shown they are the future of the Red Wings. Like hell they're going to sign such cheap contracts.

ill give you hudler , especially since hes gonna end the season with 15 goals with almost no playing time , but i figured the 750k raise and knowing he was gonna stay here might entice him , but i think fillppula for at least 4 yrs at 2 million can be done, zetterberg did more then them id say when he got his 4 yr deal

would a 4 yr deal for each at 2.2 million per be a fair enough deal to you ?? or do you think they'd laugh at it ?

Agreed, short term for the Royal Robert being a series of 10 day contracts which after every 2 games have a team option of continuing or sending "His Lazyness" back to Washington for Fleischman.

Hold on now, let's take Filppula for example, we are talking about a guy who has less than 10 goals and less than 10 assists and we are saying it is a joke of you think you will be able to get him so cheap at $2 million per year???

For 5 years??? YES. 3 years Max at 2M MAX would be fine, but 5 years?? The kid is going to get a lot more ice time next year, and hes already proved he can put up the points in a top 6 role. Plus hes a mature, well-rounded player a la Hank. 2 more years in this league, and hell be hitting his stride. Thats probably 2 years hes going to know he could be making more than 2M. Why would he do that??

Kronwall will be fine. Anyone remember how maligned Fischer was for a few seasons? What's that you say? Torn ACL? Injuries hampered his development? Well Kronwall is in the exact same postion.

Anyway. Re-sign:

Bertuzzi - 3 years

Calder - 2 years

Hudler and Flip accordignly

Datsyuk - 4 years

Markov - 1 year

UFA's

Corey Sarich - 3 year deal

Scott Hartnell - 3 year deal

Bye to Schneider, Lang and Maltby, Hasek.

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer

Hartnell - Hudler - Bertuzzi

Filpulla - Draper - Calder

Kopecky - Cleary - Samuelson

Lidstrom - Markov

Sarich - Kronwall

Chelios - Lebda

Lilja

Osgood

Howard

Fisch seems like a good kid, and I really feel for him. However, people were saying that a few days before his heart trouble. I understand the natural human tendency to elevate those who we are sympathetic toward, but Fischer was not such a great asset that he currently gets made out as. Anyway, he and Kronwall are different birds.

Kronwall has really played pretty awful this year. Lebda deserves a bigger paycheck than him.

He's locked in for 5 years.

Sidenote: Post #6666

I'm sure you caught it, but just for the benefit of everyone else: It was sarcasm.

Calder: $5M over 2 yrs or $7.5M over 3 yrs.

Yeah. I totally agree with that. Lebda's been amazingly solid this year. I can't believe he was never drafted. I just don't get Kronwall though, because didn't he play really well in the Olympics last year (for the few games he played). Hopefully in the long run this will seem like a really good deal.

If I remember correctly, and I'm sure I do, Kronwall played decent. He did score a goal in the gold medal game, but was also directly attributable to one of the Finnish goals. I get the feeling that he plays tenative in the NHL. If he could just relax, smile, take that cage off, and be confident, there is definitely that God given talent there. Unfortunately, he is not doing that.

It looks Good but they wont get rid of Schneider over Sarich. I'd rather drop Chelios than Schnieder. I'd lock up Bertuzzi for atleast 2 years no more than 3.

And yes sarcasm is hard to catch in a forum.....

Hasek should be our number one goalie.

I don't believe in long term contracts. Just look what happened to Samulesson and Williams when Holland signed them to long term deals.

If he must, then I say go for it with Calder. I just hope it doesn't effect his play though, as Kyle has quickly become one my favorite players on the Wings now. I'd go more in the 2-year range, but nothing beyond. I'd also say sign Hudler and Filppula to 2-year deals respectavly. But again, nothing beyond that.

Same goes for anyone else really. Once you sign guys to long term deals, and they don't pull their own weight, it's really hard to move them to other teams (hint: Martin Gerber). This is why I'm so sketchy about signing guys to 3, 4 year deals. If they bomb, it's hard to do anything with them.

1.) Calder

2.) Lebda

3.) Filppula (great talent, will be a future 40-50 goal scorer IMO)

4.) Hudler

5.) Berttuzi (depedning on how he does in his short stint here)

Probably not, he's more of a playmaking type but I can certainly see him scoring 20-30 goals and adding 40-50 assists with capable wingers.

Yeah you are probably right, but I can wish for 40-50 goals eh?
