Avs still alive..

It's not like the Avs haven't been in a spot like this before, the stakes just weren't quite as high.

Wasn't it just a few seasons ago that on the very last day of the season, Colorado managed to wrestle the division away from Vancouver despite all indications being that Vancouver would end Colorado's division-winning streak?

Like I said, the stakes are higher here - they're fighting for their playoff lives, not just another banner - but I wouldn't quite count them out just yet. Sure, it's still not likely that Calgary will completely s#%t the bed...but it wasn't likely when the BoSox came back from an 0-3 deficit to beat the Yanks in '04.

If we've learned anything in sports over the past few years, it's that anything can happen.

EDIT: Stupid grammar. :P

The Oilers wouldn't want it any other way. A battle of Alberta to try and keep the Flames from the playoffs? You better believe they'll be up for that game. They'll throw everything they've got at Calgary. That's a game I'd love to see. I personally hope that's how it pans out, too. I wish it came down to games like this more often for bubble teams.

Rivalry game could make it better than the records reflect. If someone would just help Roloson out, EDM still has a lot of talent.

Off Topic: now that EDM has destroyed all that was good in Lupul, I think the Red Wings should be waiting when he becomes a FA.

Note that Edmonton's only win in the 18 games was against Colorado, who are on a 13-0-2 run. Also ponder if you'd want the Wings facing a team that would need to enter the playoffs on a 15-0-2 run (think about early round 2002 without Yzerman et. al).

This enters my mind about it, too. It definitely sobers that initial, "let's take the Avs" enthusiasm.

The Avs loss to the Oil is gunna cost them, Flames are 5-2 v the oil this year winning all 3 home ties so far. The Avs will be facing a Preds team on Sat who'll be out in injury control mode, so they will knock the Preds off but the Flames will have too much for the Oil the same night and waltz into the Pepsi Centre Sunday night knowing that they'll be getting at least another 4 games this year!!
