Bertuzzi OUT for Game 1 Thursday

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

this is ridiculous, he is FINE. He got up and played for a few shifts after the collision, then left with a "neck sprain." He then PRACTICES THE NEXT DAY!! Then 2 days later, they say its a mild concussion. Now he isn't practicing and out for game 1? Oh cmon!! Stoping being a f*cking wuss Bert, learn from Lebda. You were fine before, now get in the game! Wow, our team really is soft if Bert, one of our "tough guys," sits out a playoff game b/c of this crap.

This feels just like the Zetterberg incident:

He leaves practice with "mild back spasms" and will miss one game. Then they decide it is an "inflamed disk" and he will miss 2-3 weeks. That turns into 7 weeks and the rest of the regular season. This is total bullsh*t.

We have been finding every excuse to sit guys out. Schneider out with a mild elbow injury, Chelios out with a mild uper-body injury, not to mention him sitting out a couple games for no reason at all. We are soft, we are soft.

Is that even confirmed, though?

Hank is ready to go

He's going to get a ton of minutes says Babs!

I also read yesterday that Hank actually feels great in his last two full contact practices.

Calm down, Tiger...

Bert is not a wuss. He may seem fine to us, but we are not him so god knows what pain he has.

Hank > Bert, so I dont know why everyone is freaking out. I know his size and physical presence will be missed, but its ONLY ONE GAME.

We should know by now that if we don't treat EVERY game as an elimination game, we'll get bounced in the 1sst round again. As for Bert, I at least want medical information. They havn't given us ANYTHING. Did he fail he tests? Did he take the tests yet? What are the tests? Does he have headaches? Dizziness? Does his neck hurt? What is the actualy problem(s)???? Thats what I want to know. All I get is :he sat out practice again, he will miss game 1. Nothing about his actual condition. I'm sick of all this.

If he's not going to play because of his concussion or strained neck, then he's being a *****. I love Bertuzzi, and always have, but if he chooses not to play because of something small like that, then he'll have lost a lot of respect from me.

If it's because he didn't pass his tests, or it's something much more serious, then I can understand.

Wow, how idiotic are you?

Do you think Henrik Zetterberg would NOT play for the rest of the season if there weren't anything seriously wrong with him? Teams always hide injuries until after the season.

Not having Bertuzzi in the line-up hurts us drastically, but if he's not going to perform, then sit him until he's ready. We don't need to see Calgary's players putting our guys out for the season because they stepped into the line-up too early. Detroit would never hear the end of how "Phaneuf put Bertuzzi out for the playoffs with one hit", or "Zetterberg needed surgery because the Flames hit him so hard", and my personal favorites: "Bert/Zetterberg sucks in the playoffs" because they were playing before they were healthy enough to be inserted into the line-up.

Wings management does not owe it to the fans to disclose all sorts of information to the press a day before Game 1. They are the professionals and they have a job to do. If they feel confusing reports and undisclosed medical information helps them in some sort of way, then more power to 'em. They know whats best for their players, and I especially doubt a hockey player is going to choose to sit out of the most exciting part of the season on his own terms.

Babs is fricken hilarious. He's so impatient with getting Z back in the lineup. He's like a kid who was given his favorite toy 3 weeks ago, but was told he couldn't play with it until tomorrow.

What?

You obviously don't understand how serious a concussion can be. You don't mess around with crap like that. Would you play if you were dizzy, had a strained neck, and felt weak? I don't think so.

The fact that some on here are saying he's a wuss because he won't play due to a slight concussion is really mind boggling. You guys aren't in his shoes, therefore can't speculate how bad it is or that he's fine. If he was fine then he'd play. If he thought at ALL that he'd have a chance to play, he would.

I'm not trying to be rude or sound like a ***** but come on..

LMAO so true.

Just shows how important Hank is to this team!

Just saying, if Bert cannot play for a while, it was financially better for the Wings that he got hurt before the playoffs than in Game 1 of the playoffs. Interesting component to any injury analysis.

The fact that he played more shifts after that, looked fine, and practiced the next day tells me it wasn't too bad. Lebda got CRUSHED into the boards, and couldn't even move. Yet he was playing, what, four days later?

I'm not going to make any judgements until I hear further details, but if he isn't playing because of something very minor, he needs to tough it up.

You don't f**k around with concussions. I realize not everyone here understands how serious they are, but they're a growing problem in lots of sports. Doctors are learning more and more that if a player returns from a concussion too soon, it can cause irreversible damage.

Who's to say its Bert's decision whether he can go tomorrow or not?

When did I say that? Did you read my post before that? I said that IF he passes his examinations, and he looks to be fine, but won't play because of a strained neck or something, then I think he needs to tough it up. Despite what you may think, I do understand that he first has to pass his exams.

I do understand that you realize he first has to pass his exams, but when has it ever been determined that Bert has sat himself out of a game due to a strained neck or something? Who here has any concrete proof that Bert is doing this or has done this in the past. It's all speculation. That's my point.

It hasn't been determined. That's what I say, I'm going to wait until we get more details before I say anything, because we have no idea what's going on. I simply said that if it IS something very minor like a strained neck, then he needs to play. It could be something more serious. In that case, I definitely wouldn't blame him for sitting.

Perfectly stated, and I agree.

And don't misunderstand my quoting you initially. It's just that there are so many posters that are shouting for Bert to toughen' up without even knowing his status. Given what you put in this past post, you're not one of them.

My main point is that I highly doubt Bert is the type of player that would sit himself out if his neck hurt a little bit. If he's given clearance, and he doesn't feel like he was in a car wreck, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he'll play. Why speculate how tough he is or isn't without even knowing whether he was given medical clearance or not, and then on top of it whether he chose to sit out or play.

Seems kind of pointless to me.

you know what, Bruce MacLeod has jumped the gun a bit on other Detroit injuries before.

He has? Over the last few months I think Bruce has been one of the best -- if not *the* best -- of the local media's Red Wings reporters. He's been getting info to us fans hours -- sometimes a day -- faster than some of the more prominent names out there. Besides, he's not speculating -- he's reiterating what Babcock said after practice himself. Don't shoot the messenger.

this is ridiculous, he is FINE. He got up and played for a few shifts after the collision, then left with a "neck sprain." He then PRACTICES THE NEXT DAY!!

Before spouting off, you need to revisit the DiPietro situation out on Long Island. The human brain is a finicky thing when it comes to concussions.

"Toughen Up".. christ, I've heard it all. Like you can magically recover from a concussion. I suppose this and other forums will only get worse as the playoffs go along -- but it's a tough task to weed out the useless posts now isn't it. :P

Wings win game one regardless of Bertuzzi.. this will give him 3 full more days to recover, pass his tests, and get out there and make sure we get game 2!!
