I meant to post this story yesterday but forgot.

In any case I had to LOL when I read safety patrol.

I was captain of my safety patrol in grade school. Of course it was like the Wild captains, rotated, certainly not like a Wings captain. lol

Another great Albom article.

Wow. Great post.

There will never - ever - be another Steve Yzerman, and it's not as if I need any more reason to line up behind Lidstrom, but that just another fascinating piece to the puzzle.

It's not as fascinating as you might think.

Military service in Sweden is mandatory.

More impressive than Nick being a private: Dr. Ruth was a sniper.

Despite her diminutive height of 4 feet 7 inches, she was trained as a sniper. [1] Westheimer was seriously wounded in action by an exploding shell during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, and it was several months before she was able to walk again.

I meant the part about him being basically taking care of himself (more or less) out on his own in order to play hockey before he entered the service. Like I said, I had plenty of faith in him as our captain before, but I think that story just gives us a little more insight about how he came to be the solid foundation of the Red Wings that he is today.
