Bad Vlad Forever 1 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 Definitely Giguere. You gotta remember, it's still early in the series. I don't want to downplay the importance of tonight's game, but it's not quite desperation time for Anaheim yet (...yet). Even if they were desperate, I don't think you can not start Giguere. That said, I hope Detroit scores no less than 7 on him tonight!

Bryzgalov was his #1 in the first round against Minnesota, and he didn't change that until the Wild won 4-1 in Game 4. They're both very capable netminders; and I agree with a previous poster, Game 3 was *not* Giggy's fault.
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 I don't think that's true at all. There were lots of people who thought he was going to stick with Gerber. Gerber was the clear #1 until he got that weird flu right at the end of the season. What I meant was, not very many teams win the cup by flip-flopping their starting goalies. The Red Wings passed to perfection and just as Vancouver fans picked up on but their coaching staff didnt figure it out, once JS is set up on one side and someone is behind him, its an easy tip in. He just cant get back to the open net once set up for that initial incoming shot. The only reason Bryz was our starting netminder for the Minnesota series is because Jiggy's newborn son had a health concern and Jiggy's mind was there instead of the playoffs. Ilya did an admirable job for us but the net belongs to our #1 which is Giguere. They had a morning skate that started at 9:30, I bet JS was on the ice by 8 with Francois Allaire. I saw a funny post above that the Wings would score no less than 7 on Jiggy tonight, LOL, you havent watched him all year especially after a game like game 3 have you. No excuses tonight, JS plays and may the best team win.
Getzlaf15 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 that was me. i've been saying it for a year now, constantly.maybe too much but finally someone else is seeing it. he's a statue in there and now that we're playing the ducks we all get to see it. he may be the best position goalie in hockey, but his athleticism is the drizzling s***s. imo, bryz is better. BUT-all players on the ice taken into account, giggy is better for this system. What amazes me is that now that youve actually scored 3 goals on JS, his pads are no longer mentioned and everyone has said this or that for so long, now its been proven. You guys are too funny. If Detroits D men stand around tonight and just watch the plays happen, let 2 Ducks crash the net and leave Hasek high and dry can I come back in and blast away? Even the Hasek snow angels wouldnt have helped Giguere while his dmen picked their asses around him. Get real.
redwingsfansince87 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 JS Giguere will start the game in net, the Ducks are only down 1 game and its not like he has been playing terrible in net. He hasn't made any bonehead moves like Nabby practically giving a goal away to Dats in the last series.

redwingsfansince87 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 Take it back. Melrose and his ilk can talk about that "gift" but Pavel earned that goal. I'm not saying it wasn't a great play by Dats by keeping with the play and getting in his face giving him nowhere to go with the puck, but it wasn't the best piece of netminding I have ever see either. So I guess you win I take it back.
union drone 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 A change in net at this point would be a total panic button move. There's about a 95% chance that Jiggy gets the start.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 I don't think it matters whos in net. Neither of their goalies are capable of stealing a game against the wings, as both of them rely on their defense too much. With Pronger out, Babs better make the top game plan to be to overwhelm their defense. Rush them to the corners, make them turn the puck over, play a physical (yet clean) game and circle the crease like a shark wing. As long as we don't let Pronger's absence and the overwhelming ass-whooping get to our heads, we should be able to take this one.
Duckette 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2007 If you're going to debate the, PLEASE, at LEAST spell their names right! It's Jean-Sebastien Giguere aka 'Jiggy' and Ilya Bryzgalov aka 'Bryz'. That's just one of my pet peeves, sorry if you think it's ridiculous.
