Bertuzzi Update (1:37pm): Game-time decision

If there is one thing that Bert isn't good at- besides making draperfan all squishy and uncomfortable inside- its backchecking. He approaches the game as a one-way forward.

I wouldn't have had him out there when protecting a 1 goal lead in game 5 either.

Someone from the CDC just said they heard on 1270 am confirmed that he's injured....any truth?

they said on the local news channel here in grand rapids this morning that he reaggravated his back and is questionable for game 6, no other confirmed reports were available.

Good, now we might be able to win game 6,at least he wont be giving the puck away.

Regardless Draperfan's analysis, I did see the shift other posters commented about. He was literally all over the play. He laid a hit, handled the puck several times and laid a few great passes out there. It wasn't his fault his linemates didn't finish any plays. He couldn't have done better short of scoring a goal himself. I can only guess either Babcock was worried about his defensive play or he hurt himself, after a shift like that almost any player gets rewarded more ice time.

Does he give the puck up? Sometimes yes, but he's a little like an Ozolinsh (SP?) or a Bergeron. You outweigh the bad with the good, and he had a brilliant spot in the 2nd that would get any rookie or vet more time. My guess is he's hurt again.

Sure Steve. It was definitely Bertuzzi's fault that the Wings lost yesterday, seeing as that he wasn't in the game when both of Anaheim's goals were scored. Get a clue, Bert's been great these past few games.

Just because you despise Bert, doesn't mean he's as worthless as you like to think he is.

Well I never like to see anyone hurt, so I hope he's OK. BUT, he's not helping us enough for it to matter. I keep seeing "he's getting better every game" but that's not good enough in an elimination game of the WCF. I have to agree with Draperfan - he's more of a hindrance than a help right now. I also agree with Brett Hull's analysis - he's not being aggressive enough in front of the net.

Hull said if it was Homer he wouldn't have turned sideways and he would have let the puck hit him. Instead Bert turns sideways and it becomes a shot on goal. I'm starting to dislike Hull's view of the Wings more and more.

:(

Bert, PLEASE PLAY. Just when he's starting to play great and get back into form he has a setback. WHAT IS THIS s***.

he has a good game, then doesn''t show up (for whatever reason)...it's been this way the hole playoffs.

If he's not 100% he can have a seat. Let Hudler get in, hopefully he can be a little spark plug. (not like he'd play alot anyways)

He hasn't been 100% in a LONG time. If he can play like he did in games 3 and 4 I say let him play.

yes, but if he was how he was in games 3 and 4, i doubt he'd leave the ice.

Sorry if this was mentioned, i didn't read through all the comments. But I do remember Babcock saying if they were ahead in the game Bert would play much less than if they needed a goal. Since the wings were clamping down, that coulda been why.

i have not talked to bertuzzi, but im pretty sure he is done for the playoffs. When i did talk too him his back was not feeling well at all. This back problem is lingering all the way from vancouver so he wanted to fix it with a surgery but he is not well yet. He also has another injury.
