wingsrock34 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 Why do people want Boogaard or McGrattan? It's mind boggling. I think Bertuzzi fits the description as a good enough enforcer, I wouldn't want no goon flooding the line-up. you also told me I had the dumbest post ever when I wanted Kristian Huselius and he could have been had for almost nothing and he went on to score 34 goals and 77 pts this season with the flames so i dont care what you think about me wanting McGrattan
poolerman 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 you may be right. we need another scorer not neccessarly another "sniper"...and we do have alot of grit on our forward lines...we need some on defense. hmmm, but hartnell could bring that grit and scoring ability. We need toughness for the playoffs...have we not figured that out yet ?? They are NOT going to call penalties..ruless disappear Hartnall / Handzus /Torres fit that bill...tougher goes to the net and goals are produced We don't need fighters Mcgratton / Boogaard...we need players Weimer just may be damaged goods...want to gamble on that..but i liked him..just not now
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 (edited) who exactly are u going to move off the roster for someone like weimer or asham? Hudler and Kopecky. Hudler can be traded, and Kopecky can be the 13th forward. We need someone who will stand up and defend his teammates, and Hudler and Kopecky are not the guys who will do it. Wiemer and Asham are, and they can both provide just as much offense as Kopecky. Edited June 7, 2007 by Kp-Wings

Yes he is gritty, tough, and will occasionally mix'em up but... not an enforcer. But other threads will follow on this I'm sure
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 (edited) Up front - The lack of a sniper/pure goal-scorer is an obvious hole that needs to be filled, but in order to do so, Holland will have to orchestrate an impressive trade. Frankly, I don't see that happening, so we can probably scratch that option. As for the grit department -- the team showed it has teeth, but a big, strong, aggressive body would certainly help the cause. With this in mind, Hartnell is a very attractive package; he's a big body who plays a physical, nasty game, and he knows how to put these qualities towards putting the puck in the net. Where a guy like Lang uses his size reactively ("Ha! You tried to hook me and failed!"), Hartnell uses his size proactively, imposing his will on the opposition and generally making life unpleasant for them. Smyth is another logical choice, but I'll be absolutely amazed if his asking price isn't way beyond what the Wings can reasonably offer. What the hell, I'll talk about the D as well. On D - Size, snarl, speed, and experience -- that's what the ideal blue line addition would bring to the fold. That's asking a bit too much (hence "ideal"), but I think Sarich could go a long way in patching things up. He's not exactly a speed demon, and he does tend to get a little overzealous with the physicality, but he plays a pretty solid game and would undoubtedly help clear the crease and break up big teams' cycles down low. The PPG line wreaked havoc in the Wings' zone, but stick a punishing 6'4 frame with young legs in there and I guarantee those guys would have had much more trouble cycling.
