scotvm 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2007 just got a message from a friend of mine saying that a 3 way deal between the sharks/sabres/canadiens is about to go down. apparently sj would get drury while marleu would go to montreal. no word on who buffalo would aquire. im not sure what his source was but i can say that he is a very knowledgable hockey fan who would not jump the gun on info like this if he thought it was bogus. i love my friend and i trust him but damn i hope hes wrong. i said after we beat the sharks that Drury would be the player to put them over the hump..........i just didnt think it would actually happen!!!!!!! look out boys the sharks could be a LOT better now. Sharks need defense (thats been there weakness for a while now), and imo, goaltending as well. This season's playoffs confirmed to me that they will never make it all the way with Nabokov in net. Whether Toskala can step up, I dont know, but Nabokov will never be the guy. Swapping Drury for Marleau doesnt fix these other problems...they already have a very good forward corps. There is no secret that Marleau fell out of favor in San Jose. This is realistic to me, provided that there is some sort of balance to it. Perhaps they will move another free agent to be to Buffalo to that would be cheaper to sign. This is most ridiculous thing I've read in quite some time. First, the Sabers would need to sign Drury, and he wants to test the market. There is no way San Jose would trade Marleau for the rights to talk to Drury for 2 weeks. If something like this were to go down, it would have already happened. Speaking of Buffalo, they aren't getting anything? I'm assuming that Montreal is in the mix someone other than recieving. So what are they giving up? It isn't Alex K, and the only real trade bait they have is between the pipes. Both San Jose and Buffalo are pretty set there. Your 'friend' should stop making up stories to get you all worked up. Both of those guys can rack up the points, while the Canadiens don't really have that one guy that does that. Nearly everyone in San Jose hates Patrick Marleau right now. 3. Montreal is horny for Marleau 4. Marleau is a free agent next season, as is Thornton - not a desirable position for SJ to be in next year. 5. Drury has already said he wants to play on the West Coast 6. Its increasingly obvious that Drury isnt going to re-sign with Buffalo, if they could afford him. 7. Buffalo gets something for losing Drury. Looks like a win-win-win situation to me.
