he left the wings high and dry... fuggim

Yeah, no kidding--I mean, we didn't even make the playoffs this year, did we? Oh, whoops, we did.. ok, we SURELY didn't make it further in the playoffs without him than we had since 2002, did we? Apologies, we sure did..

He left us high and dry? Maybe we should thank him, considering how things turned out this season.

Man, some people here sound like jilted ex-girlfriends when it comes to Shanny.

He left on about as good of terms a player could possibly leave. And honestly Holland talks a good game in the press, but I'm not sure he really wanted Shanny to stay.

Shanny sensed what it took some people, including management, a while to come to terms with. It was the end of an era. The Wings needed a new identity. Which they found this year without Shanny.

Besides, I'm sure he was also aware his production the last couple postseasons was a disappointment and maybe thought a fresh start would do everyone good.

In my opinion he was right. The Wings were probably better off without him, and he seems to be a great fit for the Rangers.

so what's the problem? Once you put on the Winged Wheel, you're supposed to play in Detroit until you retire, or until the fans collectively decide to hate you?

Another poster said it already that this has to do with Fedorov and the more I saw posted from a certain individual the more I believe that to be true. How this thing even became about Fedorov vs Shanny just proves that some people are so enraged about the way Fedorov is treated (and maybe rightfully so) that they feel they have to knock down any and everybody else to make themselves feel better about the Fedorov situation. It's sad.

I didn't meant to sound condescending, I was asking a legit question. Poor phrasing on my part.

It's good. I really felt dumb though when I looked at it!

Wanker. Feds was the greatest pure tallent the Wings ever had in the modern era other then Stevie.

Feds left due to a managerial misunderstanding when it came down to it.

Feds loved Detroit and was the poster boy for their rise to prominance in the 90's.

Feds is my hero.

Wanker? Really, you seem to be more intelligant to go to name calling. Wanker? Anyhow all I was saying down with Feds about was coming back. I would rather he did not. I am not sure it was a managerial issue when he left but your probably in his fav five so you would know better. I think Feds was great when he was here. Same as Shanny. I loved both of them and they made a huge impact on this club. I just would prefer they both stayed in the past but I don't get paid the big bucks to make that call.

And Fedorov left for less money.[/qoute]

Noted. I think you miss read me somewhere.

Fedorov played a BIGGER role.

Agreed

Fedorov and Shanahan should be treated the same. Whether that means booed or cheered, that's up for debate. But to boo one and cheer the other is silly.

Also agreed and I don't think I would boo either.

Sleeping with someone else's wife did get him sent packing from St. Louis...

It sure didn't. That was a joke.

I like Feds as much as the next guy, but why start with the name calling...NO NEED FOR THAT. Besides your from Canada not Great Britain!

You missed what I was saying. ( I was the one who said my opinion of Shanny is fueled by others of Fedorov)

I don't like how Shanny left. I don't repect that he felt it was time to move on. I don't care that the Wings were able to overcome his loss.

The way Fedorov is treated and spoken of simply adds to this. Fedorov left for less cash because he didn't want to deal with Stevie any longer. Now, I'm not saying this is Stevie's fault, or that Fedorov was right for this. But there was no secret about it. Stevie and Sergei didn't get along. Who's gunna be made out to be the bad guy in every situation there? Sergei knew this. Add in that he wanted to be THE guy, and he would not have been here. Which he was also clear about, and that's why he left. Yet people here boo him at the Joe. That is beyond classless.

Shanny left without really saying why. In later reports he claims he wanted to play a bigger role than he would have. And I've read several reports that he thought he should wear the 'C'. As I said before, just because he showed come class in not complaining to the press about this, doesn't make his leaving any more classy. I think it was a worse way to leave than Sergei did. The only reason why Sergei gets so much more ill will sent his way is because he was in his prime when he left.

Odds are with the cap being instated Sergei would have been delt anyhow. I won't argue that paying him $6 per is too much. But no matter what anyone says, the guys is incedible, and has an unmatched talent and ability to play the game at both ends of the rink. Does he use this all the time? No. But it's there. No one can deny that. He is simply the most skilled two way player in the league. He just doesn't have the desire, or heart to put in what it would take to play at the level he is capeable of, night in and night out.

I still don't understand where you're coming from.

Why don't you respect that he felt it was time to move on? that's not a valid feeling?

The team was going through a major leadership change with Yzerman retiring, and it's no surprise that Lids would probably be the next captain with Zetterberg in the wings. He didn't whine to the press about anything, he didn't leave for more money.

I had never heard any reports about him wanting the C. And I can understand his thinking maybe he could rejuvenate his career on a new team.

"It really came down to an instinct I had.. Detroit has a great past and a great future ahead of them as well, but I guess I just felt that maybe I was identified with the past a little bit more than the future."

This has nothing to do with Fedorov or how he's treated.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I think it's differnt. You don't.

At this point, any more discussion on the matter is the beating of a dead horse.
