Dustin Penner?

And I, for one, don't even really think Flippula, Franzen or Hudler are necessarily going to be dressing for the Wings, let alone three of our top six wingers.

You couldn't be more wrong about Filppula and Franzen.

Doh! Good catch, thanks!

I was wondering why everyone was getting so excited about THAT guy.

:)

Actually, lame-oid trash talk aside, Perry is quite the catch too, although of the three, I covet Getzlaf the most.

Not a bad idea and its wouldn't cost much in comp.

Compensation is given to the other team based on what the player made. So it's not like the Wings would be losing 5 first round picks or anything and besides Detroit for the most part does better drafting in the later rounds so to lose a couple first rounders for Penner might not be a bad idea.

Oh and jaytan you are soooooooo wrong about Filppula and Franzen. I don't know what games you watched last year but those two were great for the minutes they got and with more minutes they will do even better.

Well, i realize im going completely against what i said earlier in this thread....but after recent developments, if Holland really has some balls he should play hardball and make a big offer to Penner. One that Anaheim will really have to think twice about matching if theyre getting near the cap.

 Hells yeah. Get 'er done Kenny  Like everyone has said- Penner is money. I'll take him over Bert anyday :P

I think somebody just signed Zubrus thank god. Yeah...i figured i'd bring it back for ya rather than start a new one since you were the one who originally mentioned Penner (plus i came down on the idea..)

The reason Penner makes more sense than Vanek is A) he's a huge powerforward and most importantly B) its a justifiable situation to target Anaheim's RFA. I cant see Holland doing that with Vanek.

Agreed. Holland won't lose face on making a RFA move on the f***s, but the Sabres just got pounded by the UFA season, so screwing them harder might not look very nice.

i'd like to see us make a good sized offer just to drive up penner's price when the ducks are forced to match... but if for some asinine reason they don't match... well, worse things could happen than giving up a few picks for penner.

kenny, time to throw penner a $1.9 mill offer sheet. if he matches, he matches, if he doesn't...and we sign him, we only give up a 2nd rounder. anaheim's so close to the cap it's not even funny. don't sit back and just let them take schneider and bert!!

I thought about this as well. But looking at the Ducks situation they're in great shape. Including the Bert and Schinds signings the Ducks current cap Number is 47.4. Now if Niedermayer hangs it up thats an additional 6.7 million more they would be under the cap. It would take a huge offer like 7-10 Mil to pry Penner away from the Ducks without them trying to match.

i think their more then that man...closer to $49-50 mill. also, anaheims owner only wants them to spend $44-45 million towards the cap...so it makes sense.

They wouldn't have any problem matching a 3.5 - 4M offer for this season, but it would put them in the s***s next year. In 08 they have to resign Getzlaf, Perry, Bryzgalov, Kunitz and Rome, so they need to get Penner signed for no more than about 2M.

I wouldnt say it puts them in the s***s. I bet Burke's not afraid to deal any of them except for Getzlaf if it came down to it.

He said Corey Perry is untouchable as well.

As for 4m/yr for Penner? Holy overpayment.

I agree to an extent, but it's a million times better than paying Bertuzzi and/or Lang 4M.

And we're not paying Bertuzzi or Lang 4m/yr. Dustin Penner is not worth 4m/yr, hell Eric Staal who already has a 100 point season under his belt and led his team in points while winning the cup is only making 4.5m. What has Penner done?

Something tells me that 4M is a discount for Penner. Yeah, he didn't score 100 points, but he seems offly gritty already, with point production having the potential to go uphill. Plus, with the salary cap max at 50.3M... 4M doesn't seem like a whole lot these days.

Sure, when you consider what he has done 3-4M is overpayment, but it seems as though GMs are inclined to pay for potential rather than pay what a player has earned. Vanek 1 outstanding year and Edmonton writes an offer sheet that is absolutely obscene. Actually I really don't know what GMs are basing contracts on this year. It seems as though it's, MY DICK$ BIGGER THAN YOUR$! Schenider almost 6MILLION what a pile of horses***. I thought he was overpaid last year.

First off holy s*** was this thread buried!

Secondly any word on the offer sheet Anaheim gave him!!

That's because many LGWers are not serious about winning. They'd rather speculate about Selanne, who won't play for any other team but Anaheim.

Schneider at 5.625 isn't that bad... For 2 seasons at the tender age of 38, that's where it becomes a question.

If Schneider didn't have that booming point shot that misses the net 85% of the time he would be no better than 6th or 7th dman on the Wings.

You sound like a true hater, but would you disagree with the fact that we more than likely would have beat Anaheim with Schneider in the lineup?
