Which of the 7 'big' names get into the Hall this year?

If Dino Cicerrelli and Mike Gartner aren't in the hall then Adam Oates doesn't deserve to be either.

He's never won a Cup and if guys that have scored over 600 and 700 goals can't make it, then Oates doesn't have enough points to make it either.

Personally, I don't think Cups should matter as far as the HoF goes. Jacques Lemaire is a prime example. He scored just over 800 points but got in because he won a handful of cups. I'm not saying he wasn't a very good player but those Cups had a lot to do with that team he played on. I don't think he deserves to be in there.

But since the review board that looks at this does consider Cup wins as so valuable then Oates shouldn't make it.

Oh okay, I guess I was completely oblivious to this. I thought the Russians always went to the "Russian Hockey Hall of Fame." I always thought it was North American bound only.

You have to take the whole picture in...how else do you think guys like Slava Fetisov got in? I think if you take all of the aspects of Igor's career into consideration, there is no reason why he should not be in this time. I see him getting in before Lemieux and Oates for sure, and I daresay even Scott Stevens or Al MacInnes, though great careers they both had.

My kinda analogy.

The Prof is my favoirite player of all-time, so yeah, I'm a bit homerishtical, but there's valid reasons for aforesaid favoritism (need I go into 'em, they've been done to death here already), and I think he gets in this year. There's international sensibilities to be stroked taken into consideration.

You make it seem as if he was passed over a bunch of times before he got in. He made it in on his first year of eligibility.

Dino not getting in is a TRAVESTY!!!! Simply F-ed up.

Larionov being on most folks list is HOMERISM at its finest.

If Larionov had won all his cups in Vancouver or New Jersey not a one of you would put him ahead of MacInnis.

1. Messier

2. Francis

3. Stevens

4. MacInnis

Those are your 4. If they let in 5 Igor would be the 5th in a virtual tie with Oates.

Lemieux is never getting in. Won't happen.

It's official

Messier

Francis

Stevens

MacInnis

Hey, I was right.... :P

Stevens making the HOF over Larionov is a joke. He was only among the best three or four players in the world at his position a handful of times in a 20 year, while Larionov was considered among the best three or four players in the world at his position for a decade.

This is said to be the best group of inductees to ever be named to the HOF. Scott Stevens is no exception.

- Played the most games ever by an NHL defenseman.

- Won 3 cups with the Devils, in which all 3, I doubt they would have won without him.

- Conn Smythe winner.

- Probably the best pure defender of all time.

- Arguably the hardest hitter of all time, where if devestating open ice hits were recorded on paper, I think he'd be the all time leader.

- All in all an intimidating force to play against.

I don't think there should be any question of Stevens entering the HOF.

I don't think there's any question of him entering it either. I'm just not sure he should've gotten in on his first go round considering the other candidates.

The only statement you made above that I take issue with is best pure defender of all time. Even as a defensive defenseman, if that were true he would've picked up a Norris somewhere in his 20 year career. (I think he was runner up a couple times)

You have to be an offensive defenseman to win the norris. Even when Chelios last won it, it was a season that he had 72 points. Pure defensive defensemen are lucky to even be nominated, but have no chance of ever winning...

Yes, exactly. The definition of Norris is the best "all around" defender. Meaning a defenseman that brings both offensive and defensive ability to top tier. Trust me, Stevens is a WAY better defender than 3 time Norris winner, Paul Coffey.

I agree with that.

But best pure defender of all time?

no.

Does anyone have an idea who on the list next year? I believe Stevie Y is on the list, which is a coin flip at best if he makes it or not, HA HA!

Anyway, enough stupid humor, if there a few good ones on next years list, Igor and Dino could get the screw job again.

Oops, Stevie is not eligible until 2009 with Hullie.

Stevens has played with a guy who was a FAR better defender. Rod Langway won the Norris in 83 and 84 with less than 35 points each season. Stevens was never nominated with less than 70; Chelios was last nominated with 39, and has been nominated twice overall with less than 50 points. The evidence suggests Chelios has typically been a far superior defender to his contemporary, Stevens. Chelios scored 70 points three times. Every time he did, it meant winning the Norris.

Eva, you're just sour b/c you didn't get your homer fix by Igor getting in.

Stevens was a fantastic defender, a game changing defender at that. Who was a more devastating hitter or had the ability to change a game as consistently through the big hit as Stevens in the past 20 years? Nobody. "He is generally regarded as one of the best "stay-at-home" defencemen to ever play in the NHL" Taken from Wiki. Yeah, yeah, i know. Didn't Stevens also win a Con Smythe trophy? He was a 2 time NHL 1st team All Star. He played in over a dozen all star games. Up amongst the leaders in games played all time. And he managed to score over 900 points in his career. So much for him not having offensive chops. So he couldn't win the Norris. He had some stiff competition didn't he? Let's not forget this was the era with Lidstrom, Bourque sort of, Blake, Pronger, Niedermayer. Doesn't take anything away from him. He was everything you'd want your big, rugged stay at home defender to be. Oh yeah, and he was Captain nearly as long as Stevie wasn't he? Lots of reasons to put him in the Hall over Igor. Unruffle your panties, Igor will get in soon enough. If you should be pissed about anything its that Dino got snubbed again.
