Can someone please help me understand the (e4)? I also saw in another thread an (e5).

I've been with the board since 2002 and I don't recognize these (e_) things!

By the way, I'm calling shinanigans on this rumor!

e1 = Such a stupid rumor Eklund himself doesn't even believe it

e2 = rumor where his dog is the source

e3 = something he pulled out of his ass

e4 = Eklund's nephew made this trade on his Playstation and it sounded interesting

e5 = tiny chance it might be true, but probably not.

Basically the only time Eklund is ever right is when he talks about someone signing an hour or less before it's on legit sites like TSN.

99.999% of his rumors are not true. 75% are friggin idiotic if you know anything about hockey.

People claim he's broken some stories, but I've not seen it happen once, other than like I mentioned, when it's just before it hits legit sites like TSN where they can't really afford to be wrong all of the time like Eklund and have to actually check facts and verify sources.

If you're bored sometime, you can scan back through this forum and see just how many Eklund rumors have actually come true.

The wheels are in motion....that much is certain..I got more confirmation just now, to go along with sources in California I talked to last night...this very preliminary stuff, but I am still very confident in this rumour. It could fall apart or it could gain momentum, but I believe we are looking at something that mayneed up to two weeks to play out...

Fellow Hockeybuzz writer Bill Meltzer lends this perspective...

"I have no idea whether or not there's anything to Selänne coming to the Flyers, but I know for a fact the Flyers have had flirtations with acquiring him on at least three different past ocassions-- going all the way back to his draft year in 1988; the 1995-96 death march of the Jets (Chicago had signed Tkachuk to a big offer sheet, and Winnipeg could no longer afford Selänne: Paddock and Clarke absolutely discussed a Selänne to Philly trade, but Anaheim could offer Tverdovsky and Kilger, then considered can't miss prospects, and the Flyers didn't have comparable young, inexpensive players to offer... the Flyers ended up dealing for Falloon instead), and the 2000-01 season when he ended up going to San Jose. So there is some history behind this, even if nothing happens."

It's the opposite Harold! e5 is the kiss of death. Everytime he gives something an e5, it never happens. Examples: Bill Guerin to Detroit, Ryan Smyth to re-sign in Edmonton. That sort of thing.

Signing Bertuzzi means no Selanne in Anaheim.

That said, I don't see Selanne going to Philly.

The only teams with a chance at Selanne if he doesn't retire are San Jose and Los Angeles.

San Jose has about 14m cap space, and could use one more top-six scoring forward like Selanne. They also need a depth defenseman and a backup goalie.

Los Angeles has 7m cap space, with 11 forwards, 7 defensemen, and two goalies. Mike Cammalleri is still RFA, but the Kings need one more forward after that and might be able to afford Selanne, depending on what the former gets in arbitration.
