Power Ranking wrap up

Those pesky wings just wont go away. Haha, year after year, even without the cup, we are still amongst the class of the league. Nice.

But what the Hell is Buffalo still doing at 4 on the TSN chart!?!?! Could just be me, but I dont see them being anywhere near where the were the last few years.

And HAHAHA, love this "No one in Vancouver will complain if the Canucks bore people to death, because without any improvement to the offense, a lot of their wins will be low-scoring defensive battles where goalie Roberto Luongo shines." God I hate the Canucks. Do I hope we blow them away this year.

Anyone that has Ottawa at the top of the list is crazy, for that matter an Eastern team in the actual top 3 of power rankings. I know they have to be, but in reality does anyone actually believe a EC team could beat San Jose, Detroit, or Anahiem in the SCF. I'd say the only teams that are even that good out East are Ottawa, Rangers, maybe Pengiuns and Buffalo, but none could stand a chance against western teams.

Considering they just came off of a trip to the SCF, and managed to keep their core in-tact, it's not so ridiculous to have them at #1 on the list. Plus they just went undefeated in the preseason.

Of course, Chicago went 7-1 last pre-season, and look at how their season turned out. :P

but compared to what the west has to go through to get to the finals I really don't think its close. I mean its personal opnion but I really think the West is hands down a better division.

the west has been the best conference for the last 10 years...

it aint changing till the wings move east

...biased much?

Ottawa has an amazing offense, but we really need to realize that going to the Finals means nothing for the next year. I know everyone seems to think Anaheim and Ottawa are suddenly amazing teams, but we haven't had a team stay good the year after they won the cup in years. Not saying they will suck this season, but it's definitely not a given. Ottawa will make playoffs, but there's no reason to suspect they'll win.

Who has the better conference is kind of a mute point. You measure success by Stanley Cups Championships. The Devil's have won 3 in recent years. The Canes and Lightning have won. Then the Wings have 3, the Stars have one, the Avs have 2. The Rangers have gotten 1. It is pretty even recently, say over the last 15 - 20 years or so.

I am pretty comfortable with the Wings being considered in the #3 to #5 range. Not high enough to garner special attention, but considered a contender. It always seemed the the Wings did better when they weren't considered the top team to beat.

It's time to ditch the notion that the West is "hands down" a better conference. Before Anaheim won this year, the East won the last three Cups - Carolina, Tampa Bay, and New Jersey. Most of the league's biggest and brightest young stars are in the East - Heatley, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Crosby, Malkin. Of last year's top 10 in scoring, only two played for Western teams, and one of those two (Thornton) is a relative newcomer to the West. And of the top 20, only 5 played out West. Not only that, but last year's President's Trophy winner was an Eastern team.

There's just no basis to claim that the West is better than the East.

Lets face it, the wings play everyone with a huge bullseye on their sweater. The wings are a "big" game for every team in the league. I think the sabres are on the over rated side, and the rangers are under rated. I hate to say it, but if Budaj has a solid year, the Avs will surprise a few people.
