Grigorenko update

I know there's a post futher down, so if you want to combine them go ahead. I just thought this was important compaired to the fighting going on in that post.

From the freepress: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article.../710180484/1053

With prospect Igor Grigorenko slated to return next week, the question remains where he will fit.

"If he can win a job, he can win a job," Babcock said. "If he can't, he can't."

If Grigorenko, whose poor conditioning got him sent to Grand Rapids at the end of the exhibition season, doesn't win a job, he can go back to Russia, at which point general manager Ken Holland expects he'll stay there for good.

I wouldn't expect to see him in Detroit, ever. Sadly, he's shown nothing in Grand Rapids and he's been given every opportunity. I'll be at the Griffins home opener on Saturday, so I can take a look at him and what he has in a real game... but everything that I have heard on the radio during the away games has been unflattering. Some prospects from overseas show up hungry and ready to prove themselves... not so much with Grigorenko.

yea i read that too, im looking forward to see him playing

Me too. It'll be nice to finally see whether he has it or not. And if he doesn't then he can go back to Russia and all the arguing can stop.

It's time for Grigs to put up or shutup.

I've changed my mind. I say we call him up, put him on a line with Zetterberg and let him play on the powerplay unit. Get him a bunch of goals and trade him to another team before their scouts realize who he really is.

PERFECT!!! Now, who plays the sucker??? St. Louis? no, too dry a well. Phoenix? No, Doan would require more than Grigs...

AHA!!! PHILADELPHIA!!! Give them Grigs and a prospect (Ellis) and ask for Knuble and a pick. GENIUS!!!

Honestly I 100% have my fingers crossed that he decides its okay to be in the AHL. I apologize for this but I don't remember where I read this but I remember reading that he was surprised at the level of play in the AHL, and felt it was more competitive than Russia. So maybe he will stay? <_<

I'm sure they aren't that dumb.

It takes just a quick article search on the net to realize he's raised a lot of bad questions. The baffling thing about all this though is: How did he think coming out of shape was okay?

Was he contractually bound to come over so he decided to just go through the motions, then head home?

He plays in Russia, which doesn't currently have a transfer agreement with the NHL. So while he did sign a deal with the Wings, and technically was contractually obligated to come over, he didn't have to. He came over to play in the NHL.
