Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 Ticket prices in the NHL are ridiculous for a lot of teams now. These teams need to get it through their heads that some of us actually work for a living, and don't have near $500 to shoot around like chump change. The bills have to get paid somehow, you know. The interesting thing is some of these teams are pretty bad, too, with very dry fan bases. Like Phoenix. You figure we're 2-3 years removed from a lockout which killed the sport in a great way, and yet teams are charging up the ass to attend games. This isn't the NFL, so stop charging prices like it. But, I don't live in Phoenix, so it's not an issue for me personally. But I feel for all the Wings fans in Phoenix that can't attend because the Coyotes management is so f***ed up that they charge twice the amount just when the Wings are in town. Way to drive off any possible revanue you're making.

Went a couple years ago wearing my black Red WIngs practice jersey and really pissed some people off. Was gonna wear my Chelios # 7 Blackhawks jersey this time cause they really show the love for Cheli up there.

The Wings need to learn that philosophy because most people in Michigan AREN'T willing to pay the current prices for a Wings game, which means Illitch needs to lower the freakin prices. Then they wonder why we want to stay home and watch the flat screen with surround sound in the comfy chair with $6 six packs of beer instead of $6 cups of beer. Speaking of surround sound, there is no sound quite as awesome as a hard around ricocheting off the glass and the boards coming through loud and clear on the Bose speakers

I'm mostly referring to a lot of American markets, that couldn't sellout a game if their life depended on it. Some of it definitly goes hand-in-hand with having a terrible team (like with Phoenix, Chicago, Boston, etc.) but I can assure you that if these teams management charged reasonable ticket prices, they would get a couple sellouts every once in a while, like on a weekend or something. In the Wings case, it isn't about the team being bad at all. It's the economy and the fact that Illitch is such a stubborn jackass that he refuses to lower ticket prices, even when there is an obvious problem. Those $9 tickets we keep hearing about are only available at the box office, and their all obstructed view anyways. Unless in you're in the Detroit area at the moment, it's not worth it. Canadian teams will never have to lower their ticket prices, because hockey is so popular in Canada. And that's fine, because it's good to see the sport is still thriving in some areas. The hockey following in Canada is like the college football following in the U.S. I listen to the Team1040 sports talk radio out of Vancouver and they talk hockey all day even in July, August, and September. Its awesome. And the network news shows all the WHL and BCHL highlights and scores too. Those are great games, and for $10!
