PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted October 25, 2007 you can make the arguement that its only 10 game into the season but come on now. Huds was in babcocks doghouse last season and now hes already cut his ice time down incrediably. I have to say babs must not be impressed with something hes doin on or off the ice. but what can you say when langer mentored the kid .. poor basterd, im sure huds got some real good advice on how to get on the good side of babcock. Flip on the otherhand DESERVES his minutes for this work ethic on the ice. He cant seem to finsish his moves or shoot the puck but he can dig in the corners (when hes not falling all over himslef) and forecheck. Something Huds cant do. Kopecky has only gotten stronger since hes been here. Flyin around and crashin the net. love the guy. He also DESERVES the ice time hes ghetting. Personally i like how babs is using flip and tomas. Even the way hes not playing hudler. The reason i would love to see hudler traded is mainly b/c of the contract he got. holland gave him that cool mill to prematurely and now we might end up takin the bullet for another year. money spent on his potential was a waste. Among players who played 25 games or more, Hudler was 165th in goals per game last season. That makes him a second line sniper, even though he played minimal time. Most of the guys in Hudler's same scoring range make closer to 2m than 1m. If Hudler scores the same goals per game this year as last year, he's a bargain at that salary. Holland expected him, reasonably, to at the very least stay constant, and hopefully improve given his stellar performance in the few games last season he did get real ice time. Hudler's contract was FAR from premature, or potential based.
Guest wingswillwincup Report post Posted October 25, 2007 i was just about to do a topic on hudler's decreased ice time yet again , should we just trade him now while hes still got little value left before babcock takes away and trade value he has ?? It's ridiculous , the guy had 15 goals with no ice time last year and you'd think you'd wanna give him some ice time to get him going but no. and do any of you guys think it might be best to change the top 2 lines to get the younger guys going , or are you all in favour of keeping the hot line in tact?? I want to see the lines look like this based on our current 12 forwards: Hudler/Zetterberg/Holmstrom Filppula/Datsyuk/Samuelsson Cleary/Draper/Maltby Ellis/Kopecky/Downey

RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted October 25, 2007 No no no no no! Don't split up D-Z-H... All three of them are increadibly inconsistent players when they aren't on a line together. Together they make up the best line in the league (or one of), and seperated they don't amount to half what they do together. Yea, we really need another scoring line, but not at the expence of our only line that's producing. Fact is, before this season when the expectations were high for Hudler and Flip everyone said they'd get more icetime. They haven't. It's impossible for them establish any momentum as a 2nd line if they never play, and it's ridiculous to expect them to perform without the time. Should they get 18-20 a game? no way, but 10 min isn't enough. I just have the feeling that Babcock is Larry Browning them. Maybe we can have a victory cigar line for some of those 4+ goal leads. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 26, 2007 Poor Hudler, he's the type of guy who will probably always be bagged (excessively) when he's not contributing like people expect. And he's always going to be the first guy people throw up as trade bait. I've got faith in him though, and despite the fact Flip and Huds have struggled big time so far, we’re only 10 games into the season. I wish people would just calm down. If Hudler's not scoring, he's totally useless. That's why everyone is bitching about him. If Hudler had a steller defensive game, was physical, or God forbid even fought somebody (not like that would ever happen, given his size), you wouldn't see people complain so much. Guys like Draper are not goal scorers at all, but people love him because he's a great faceoff man and defensive forward, and does a ton of other things that make up for his lack of offense. What exactly does Hudler bring to the table other then offense? Nothing at all. He's small, slow, and weak, so a defensive/checking line role is out of the question. He's on this team to score points. If he isn't doing that, he's useless in my book, because he can't do anything else.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted October 26, 2007 When this is your first year in the NHL getting this kind of minutes with line mates who are equaly in-experienced(Filpula) and a player who plays selfishly imo (Sammi), Its going to be really hard to get anything going. Reason being Flip and Rex are off to a really slow start.. When everyone is healthy again this is the lines id like to see. Franz/Datz/Homer Rex/Zette/Sammi Cleary/Flip/Draper Drake/Kopecky/Maltby. Downey Or Ellis IDKnDC
