I saw this at Mlive. It was very painful to read. Add these stats to the fact that Matthias is 6-4, 205lbs and still growing, and it hurts even more.

Mursak will be a top six winger at some point. I was never that big on Emmerton.

Don't forget that Kirk Maltby scored 50 goals in juniors.

The guys that produce big numbers at that level don't usually end up producing big numbers in the NHL. Don' worry 'bout it.

True. But one could say the same about Mursak and Emmerton and even McGrath. Big junior numbers don't mean anything. But it is why alot of us get excited about Wings prospects.

Also Maltby wasn't a 6'4" 200+ lb above average skating center when he played junior hockey. And Matthais is.

Just sayin'

yea i still like him and would have liked him to sign with us

Respectfully speeking, I don't think thats ever been much of the issue. I think the main question has been how much would you sign him for?

My formula: (Big guy)+(Enormous talent)-(tons 'o baggage)-(questionable health)-(history of being a bit of a wanker (read headcase))=$2.5, mayyyybe $2.75 tops, mayyyybe not.

there's a lot of season left, but it would make me smile if Burke's man-love for Bertuzzi ended up biting him in the ass $4 million times for 2 years.

Lord knows I'm not a vindictive man...except when it comes to the Wings. I'd have to agree with Snepts.

One last opinion about Todd Playoff-Beard-Tuzzi; the guys been in the spot light for all the wrong reasons too much of his career. By going to Anaheim, he gets protected by Burke, and hides in the ananimity of Southern Cal being anything but a hockey knowledgable town. He is low man on the media radar. He can play mediocore, collect the big $4m, and who's gonna think twice about it. Anaheim's as easy as its gonna get for Beardtuzzi.

Well, I agree for the most part, but remember these facts as well:

- Maltby was drafted in 1992 with 263 other players. Of those other 263 players, only 2 have played more games in the NHL than Maltby.

- Maltby's 91 points in the OHL was great, but there is a big difference between being the 23rd highest scorer in the league and being tied for 1st with a whopping 32 pts in 14 games.

That said, it is unlikely he will translate that to eventual NHL domination, but at this point, most would at least assume he will be able to make the jump to an NHL roster at some point.

Let's not forget Evan McGrath put up 114 points in an OHL season, and I doubt he'll ever make it in the NHL.

He's a long shot for sure, but he's still young, you never know.

What you have to watch out for is the overage junior players that put up big numbers. McGrath put up 114 pts when he was 20. Matthias is now putting up big numbers (his 4th year as a junior).

Crosby is probably not a fair comparison, but he played his last game in Junior as an 17 year old and dominated the league for the previous 2 years.

When you are putting up big pts as a 20 year old playing against 17 and 18 year olds for the most part, it doesn't necessarily paint an accurate picture of that players potential.
