Offsides 21 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 Osgood could retire today and he'd be with the Andy Moog/Mike Vernon group of 'maybes' that hang just outside the 'sure thing' range. If Osgood sticks around a couple more years and makes it to 400 wins (which I think he will) there's no way he doesn't get in. I agree. And there's a REASON he wins...and it's not because he's been on good teams. He was on 2 crappy teams and still got the wins...*ahem* tied Billy Smith with the Islanders win record...and they were 30th placed when he joined. Anyhow...he's consistant...everyone says he's inconsistant because he might let in a "soft goal" here or there...as if all goalies don't do that occasionally. But you can count on Ozzie to let in a couple and pretty much that's it.....and he's trustable back there opening up offense. Ozzie is not a fluke.

I've always got a chuckle out of the whole thing of Ozzie letting in soft goals. As if he's the only goaltender in the NHL that does that. Every goaltender probably on average let's in one softie per game. It happens. Osgood doesn't let in any more or less than anyone else. As far as I see it anyway. Oz is top 10/20 in pretty much every single goaltending stat career wise. Like you stated, he's not a fluke. He's up there because he deserves to be and has earned it. Where do people get off saying Osgood is a fluke? Jose Theodore was a fluke. Not Ozzie. The type of consistency Ozzie's shown is proof enough that he's the real deal. Every goalie has let in goals he wants back, and some of them hurt more than others where the emotions of the fans are concerned. So what? It's part of the job. I agree with you, Reem -- and anyone else on that side of the fence.
arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 Even though it seems the rath of a few of the ladies may come down upon me, I'll admit I was never a giant Ozzie supporter. Even during 98', when we managed to win, I kinda cringed even time a shot was taken on him. However, he has been outstanding lately. Even if people want to use the excuse of our excellent 'D', he has been a star. Good on him. After all these years, I'm on the Ozzie bandwagon. Haha. But ... I'm actually really torn here. Cuz my heart says Dom, but my gut ... hmmm ...
