Whoa! :whoa:

Advice: arguments hold more weight when you refrain from swearing and attacking people. Good points though. I'm sure many would agree.

This does not surprise me to see Detroit in the lead on this poll, Hockeytown is not just Detroit the city it is the fan base around the world. When Detroit won the cup in the 90s twice both parades combined total of fans was close to 4,000,000 that was a great river of red on Woodward. Here is another little tid bit 2 years ago there were 60,000 amature hockey players playing in Michigan I believe there were 48,000 male and around 12,000 female that number is stagering to me so anyone who says Michigan is not a hockey state is dead wrong. Does anyone have a picture of the Wings victory Parade to post on here, proud member and resident of Hockeytown

yea youre right about that. their pro-team might not be anything special, but as a whole state, minnesota is a HUUUUGE state for hockey. they're high-school hockey is comparable to AAA hockey in any other state. (actually now that I think about it, im pretty sure they only have high school hockey, that dont have midget majors/minors). I remember when I was playing high school hockey Minnesota was the number 1 state for drafting in high school, followed by Michigan in second.

So yea, they do have a right to be on the poll.. Philly? im not sure about.

as for the goof who said Anaheim??? ummm, not even close. IF anaheim were on the poll, they'd probably be at about 2% right now!

Anybody know what the popluation is though? I'm not arguing one way or the other as I don't care and think its a trivial topic. I just wonder what percentage of the population that could possibly be involved in hockey is. If Michigan had 60,000 and Minnesota had 15,000, you'd say no contest. But if Michigan had 8 gazillion people in it and Minny had 100,000 those percentages would clearly say something different.

Who cares. Minnesota, Maine, Michigan, blah, there are many great places that love hockey here in the states and none of them are any better or love their hockey anymore so than the next one. What's that one team in Minny, Shattuck St. Mary's? Isn't that the most dominant youth program in the country? That doesn't make them hockeytown nor does having 60,000 make you hockeytown. What's in a name?

yea, youre right, Shattuck St. Marys. They're the equivalent to.. say.. C.C. High School here in Michgan.

except theyre about 10 times better. my old team actually played them in a AAA tourney quit a few years back now. We beat C.C. 3-2 and Shattucks basically destroyed us!

If Detroit is the number 1 hockey city in America then why doesn't the hometown media treat it as such? Just tune into the local sports stations and listen to them talk endlessly about the Lions and Tigers and Pistons. And the little time they do spare for the Wings it's obvious the sports hosts don't know s*** about the rest of the NHL. Of course they know about the Wings (they're kinda getting paid to do that) but if you asked them who is the league's most dangerous scorer they would probably answer Markus Naslund.

If Detroit was truly Hockey City, U.S.A then the local media would show it. An outsider coming to Detroit with no knowledge of the amount of coverage would be shocked at the coverage, or lack thereof of their beloved Wings and the NHL.

I don't know for sure, but I would hazard a guess that Philly, Minnesota and Buffalo to name a few all have their media's attention far more raptly than the Wings do.

I'm disappointed with WXYT's coverage of the Wings. As the Wings' flagship station I expect more hockey talk from it. IDK about Philly or Minnesota, but when I went to Buffalo the talking heads were more interested in chatting about the Bills. I'd be willing to bet it's the same where ever you go in the states. Hockey is fourth. It sucks for us hockey fans, but that's the way it is. I'd like more coverage for sure. I get angry about it. The lack of coverage isn't gonna change my passion and love for the game though. It's definitely the best game I can name. I just need to learn and accept that most Americans don't care about hockey. I've converted a few people, opened people's eyes. It's just slow going for now. I don't know what it is about me but I prefer less popular stuff - whether it's hockey over all other sports, Macs over PCs, RC over Pepsi and Coke, or Libertarian over Democrats or Republicans. It's not like I actively look for something less popular to like. I've tried them all, and those are the things I think are best.

Between the two sports radio stations in Philly I listen to (ESPN and some other guys) they spend about 4 hours a week talking about the flyers combined.

Matter of fact, ESPN talked about how rough the Flyers 8 game road trip was that they finish tonight. Florida, TB, Boston, Montreal, Caps, Rags, Pens, and Devils over 15 days in case you were curious.

Edit for accuracy
