Is it maybe just that Dano is just a late bloomer and the talent that got him drafted in the first round is now coming through?

Is it his linemates?

Is he working harder for Babcock?

Is it just a streak?

I really can't see the games and can only see what games make Vs or what I can catch on NHL.com, so My questions are out of curiosity.

Any answers?

Thoughts, discussion!

He's eating his Wheaties every morning, that's why.

Seriously, no logcial explanation from me other than that he's working just as hard as the past two seasons but rediscovered his scoring touch last year, and got going around this time of the season last year as well.

personally, i think its a culmination of a couple of those things. he's a super talented guy, and i think hes also one of those guys who can really flourish when given the right situation. right now, i think he's in a great situation here in detroit. when he came here, there were low expectations and not a lot of pressure. he gets a lot of ice time with other good energy guys like drapes and malts, who play a real similar style to him, and he just gets to go out there and do his thing for a really great team. one thing im certain of is that this isnt just some sort of extended streak. cleary isn't a streaky player. u no exactly wut ur gonna get from him game in and game out. he gives 150% every night, does all sorts of dirty work in those hard working areas, and gets rewarded for his efforts. of course, it doesn't hurt that he's very talented at what he does. cleary has turned into one of my favorite wings, and I love watching him play when he's out there on the ice. i think that our role players like cleary, drapes, even maltby are one of the things that really sets us apart from the rest of the west rite now

He has always had the talent. He was a HIGHLY-touted prospect coming in. However, though he had the hype he did not have the work ethic. He has said that the specter of being jobless in the NHL helped to change his perspective; however, in interviews he has given the credit for his improved work ethic to his wife.

Now we see the talent AND the work ethic. He's one of my favorites; he's on his game every shift.

Babcock was his coach in junoir. He has him working hard, defensively responsible, and the talent is finally coming through. If he stays healthy for the year, 30 goals is not out of the question. Love the guy, easily my favorite Wing.

I did not know that!

In a spotlight on him by TSN last year they were talking about the connections between the 2. Babcock also was the coach that didnt allow Cleary to take part in Team Canada's junoir team in the 90's because he had a bad work ethic back then.

Babcock was not his coach in junior. Babcock coached in the WHL, Cleary played for the Belleville Bulls in the O.

For what Cleary's potential was when he was in junior compared to what he actually accomplished could be considered by many as a disappointment. The year he was supposed to be drafted, he was projected a potential top 3 draft pick that year. Then he followed the same path as Esposito did this past draft.

However, I am not disappointed in Cleary. When it comes to his work ethic, and casual point production, I couldn't ask for more. He has been a crucial part of our team since he came here.

cleary is one of the hardest workers on the team and i love that about him...obviously so does babcock, when he plays he makes the players around him do better, but i think him playing with draps and malts is what helped him step it up

I heartily disagree. Cleary's real explosion last year came when he played on a line with Lang and Williams/Samuelsson. He was injured in February; when he came back, he was placed back with Draper and Maltby and did not score much.

In the playoffs last year, Cleary's points came when he was put on a scoring line rather than with Maltby and Draper.

Too, this year most of Cleary's points are on the PP or when he is otherwise not on a line with those two.
