Time to Panic Yet?

Their record is at .500. Everyone's making it sound like they haven't won a game all year. Another winning streak, and they'll be right near the top of their division.

Neidermayer is supposed to come back this month right? If he does, then they will reign supreme again. Neidermayer = value on any given team.

I gotta say, Im pretty surprised they aren't playing better. I know sometime teams can grow complacent after a championship. But I didn't expect this particular squad to break down so many times this season. But honestly, I think they will atleast somewhat put it together. I definitely see them making the playoffs. And remember, we still don't know the status of Selanne and Scott Niedermayer. For all we know, these guys might be back with the Ducks within a month or so. But either way, I think they're post season bound.

Exactly. What a major boost that will give them. Pretty stacked defense right there. And we all know what defense can do for the success of a team.

Well, if we lose 2 or 3 in a row (and you know it will happen again this season at some point), people will sound like this about the Wings unfortunately, even when we'll probably be at least .600, .650 or so (extremely rough estimation, haven't checked the standings FYI).

It's absolutely stupid for any fans of any team to panic right now when the playoffs don't start in April and it's not even the New Year yet. I guess I say that partly b/c the Wings are regulars in the playoffs, but there is a ridiculous amount of hockey left to be played before any "panicing" is legit towards a team that might miss the playoffs.

You start panicing around mid/late February or early March if your team might not have a realistic chance at the playoffs.

he said he will be making a desicion this month but this is about the 3rd time I heard that his decision is "close" so who knows maybe in January he will say I will make a descion before next month. And i remember hearing or seeing somewhere that Luongo said that he is definitely coming back. Hope he is right  . But still lost some respect for him I cant help it even if he does "Lift" the team... . *please excuse horrible spelling*

It can be justified. IMO, it's getting to that point with the Ducks.

The problem with the Ducks is that it's looking more and more like something far worse than a mere slump; not once this season has the team looked like the same team that bulldozed its way to the Cup earlier this year. The goaltending hasn't been consistent. They have the worst offense in the league. They're not physically wearing down the opposition. Their undisciplined play is backfiring. Their swagger is gone.

Last season they had a solid team identity that every one of their players bought into and rallied around. This season, they're without (or, perhaps more specifically, are being jerked around by) the two guys who were not only the team's best at their respective positions (Selanne at F, Niedermayer on D), but also comprised the very heart of the organization. Penner was also a huge loss.

I believe they're biding their time until Selanne and/or Niedermayer return(s). Personally, I think the former is done for good. But I've got to think the latter will be back. That won't magically solve all of their problems, but it will certainly give them a big boost. And should Schneider heat up and the goaltending tighten, this team will be right back in it again. I'd also expect Burke to make a splash at the deadline, if only because he wants to make himself feel better about losing Penner.
