OsGOD 3 Report post Posted December 17, 2007 Eh, It makes sense to go with the weaker goalie come playoff time... i guess Would this be the first time in the history of the NHL that a team in the playoffs with a a goalie leading the league in almost every category chooses to play the OTHER goalie for the playoff Ohwell Ozzie and Howie '08!!!!! looking forward to that run for sure! NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted December 17, 2007 As awesome as Ozzie has been (and he's been amazing) I'm almost willing to bet my house that Babcock will still go with Dom in the Post-Season. (unless, of course, he's injured) And trust me, I feel Ozzie has earned his spot to be #1 so far. But I doubt that will change the fact that Dom will be our playoff goaltender. And to be frank, I would feel more comfortable with Dom in net for the playoffs. I also feel if he gets injured, we're still in good hands. I see this goalie situation as win/win. I see it as a short leash. Even if Dom is the starter come the post-season, If I were Babs, I wouldn't hesitate to yank Dom if the Wings ever got down even 2 games (given that Ozzie continues his tear). Right now I feel better when Ozzie is in the net rather than Dom, and if Babs only cares about winning I would hope he wouldn't hesitate to throw Ozzie in (if he doesn't start the playoffs) and Dom struggles. gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted December 17, 2007 They're going to give Dom every opportunity to claim the role but again, if things continue like this, Osgood will start come playoff time. There's just no way Babcock and management are going to play a guy who's played average at best over a guy who's arguably been the best or at least one of the best goalies in the league. Again, they'll keep it neutral in the press down to the wire and give Dom every opportunity, but if Osgood continues this pace and Hasek doesn't drastically improve, Osgood will start. No doubt about it. They're not stupid. They're playing their own balancing-act game as we speak.

Hasek hasn't shown that he is the difference maker he is (or, depending, used to be) thus far this season. Scares me a little. But he has some time to prove it. Ozzie, on the other hand, has shown it quite a bit. I hope the brass would see that.
Offsides 21 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 I think the fact that Hasek hasn't been that good for the Wings (the same team Ozzie plays for) will help throw Ozzie in contention for the Vezina if he keeps his numbers up. And he has...and he's actually gotten better than he has when I couldn't stop praising him earlier this season.
