betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted November 8, 2007 All this messing around and losing to GLIAC schools is pretty much over with and the season's about to kick off for real. Michigan kicks off the season on Friday with a home game against Radford and UVA starts up on Sunday against Vermont. I'm pretty happy about the scheduling that both my schools have set up this year. Michigan's got an absolutely nasty nonconference schedule. Going to play Butler in Alaska. Two ACC schools - Boston College in the Challenge, and Duke on the road. Home games against UCLA. And then there's Oakland, which is a dangerous game IMO. UVA's got some tough ones too, on the road at Arizona and Xavier and a home game against Syracuse. Not to mention the fact that the ACC is a killer every year. Best conference in any sport in the whole country, IMO. And if you see a see a scrappy li'l dude wearing #44 in the orange and blue, sinking shots that mere mortals have no business taking, following his misses while everyone seems to be standing in tar, and generally bringing that Philly heart and guts to every single play of every single game - just remember the name Sean Singletary, and hope to hell your favorite NBA team drafts him. If you forget, just check the list of All-Americans at the end of the year.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted November 8, 2007 About time this thread is out! Michigan is going to go through hell this year, but I'm really excited to watch John Beilein basketball. His offense and defense will be something the Big 10 has never seen yet. Some of his workouts that were reported were insane. K'Len Morris said every 2-3 Amaker practices equals a Beilein practice. Although you probably won't see much success until the current players learn his system, and a number of his recruits who fit the system come I am still pumped! timothy1997 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2007 IN DREW WE TRUST!!! It's all about Neitzel for MSU. That kid had a breakout season last year and looks to have another good season. Raymar Morgan is key I think this year. He is due to breakout and this has to be the season for that. Curious to see how the young guards do in Allen and Lucas. Both are highly recruited and MSU could really use a good point guard. Indiana is predicted by most media to be the team to beat in the Big Ten this year with Michigan State followed behind. MSU can take on Indiana and even be a final four team, if neitzel gets help.

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 Heres a great Beilein article http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/preview2007/...tory?id=3098940 good article. I am actual pulling for Beiliein to do well at Michigan. One of my favorite college basketball teams growing up were the 1989 Michigan Wolverines. That was a great team. Amazing how Fisher was thrown right in the mix, the whole "Michigan man coaching Michigan" is legendary.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 Michigan is 2-0. Looks like freshmen Manny Harris is really grasping the new offense along with DeShawn Sims. We will see how far they got to go learning wise after they play Georgetown on Thursday though. Hope they keep it close!!!
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 Good start to the season for U-M. Way early to judge the results, but it would seem there at least hasn't been a drop-off from last year, since they're not struggling against these teams that they should beat. Georgetown will be an excellent gauge of progress.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 Last night's MSU loss to UCLA, shows that these Spartans have a long way to go still. Morgan couldn't stay on the court with foul trouble. Lucas couldn't handle the trap. Too many turnovers from him. Neitzel needs to take better shots. The 2 late 3 point shots were horrible. They played great in the first half but watching the 2nd half, you just knew that UCLA was going to make a comeback and they did.

I only got to see the first half, and the Spartans didn't look good. If they had capitalized on all their chances, they could probably have been up 20 after the half. And once again, I really hate Dickie V.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted November 22, 2007 I stayed up till the crack of dawn and watched U-M. I thought they played very well, but Butler couldn't miss a 3 in the 2nd half, and was making me sick.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 ACC/Big Ten Challenge going on! Always a fun little tournament. Looks like the Big Ten is not going to break the streak this year either though, not if Iowa can't even beat Wake Forest. Personally, I'm a little pissed this year. UVa wins the regular season ACC title, 11-5, and advances to the 2nd round of the NCAA's, and we draw frickin' Northwestern. I hope we stomp them. We ought to be getting Indiana or MSU. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 The ACC owns the Big Ten in their showdown. Maybe this year will be different. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Ten#Men.27s_basketball I know IU beat Georgia Tech the other night, but I didn't catch the other scores. My focus if the Wings and hockey in the winter.

My focus if the Wings and hockey in the winter. Michigan State defeated NC State. Since the big ten-acc challenge, msu is 5-3 and the only big ten team to have a winning record against the acc in the challenge. Go Spartans!!
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Michigan laid an egg against BC. It was close the whole game (they were even winning) until a 2 minute collapse in the 2nd half. The mistakes/errors in those 2 minutes allowed BC to start hammering them. Too bad. Lots of learning to be done for that very young team.

auxlepli 17 Report post Posted December 22, 2007 It was a pretty good game up until UCLA poured it on with about a 10 minutes left. Glad to see a lot of students close to the action. I didn't know it was like that at Crisler. Anyway why does UCLA have a white C, but ULA are gold? Is that supposed to imply something? Like maybe the players are coked up or something. Guest jaytan Report post Posted December 28, 2007 That's the secret reason. The cover is that the C stands for California.

UCLA now has 100 national championships, having just recently won the women's lawn bowling title or whatever. C is Roman numeral 100. They have a gold C instead of a blue one on the white unis. timothy1997 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 nice back-to-back basketball games on the Big Ten Network last night. Really begs the question if this years big ten will come down to MSU and Indiana. Both teams looked strong last night albeit against weaker opponents. MSU is doing everything this year and while I don't think they are at Memphis-North Carolina level yet, they are close. Possible final four team depending on which bracket they are in. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 No matter what happens to MSU this year slump or not I am putting them in my final four bracket. I don't care what the region looks like, or who they match up to. They are dang good. I am predicting they win it all within 3 years when they have Roe. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Sunday finally begins the ACC season! (At least for UVA.) It's my contention that there isn't a better conference, in any sport, in the whole country. SEC football be damned. It's not unusual to see 10 or even 11 ACC teams make the postseason, either in the Big Dance or the NIT. The two months of ACC basketball is the best competition you'll ever see in the sport.
