Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 (edited) Murray said Downey did have the leash on him. Not sure how he came to that conclusion, though. "You know, who are they going to step up against on their team? Aaron Downey, maybe? But Aaron Downey was told, when they got the lead, to keep his gloves on, and so...I mean, we have to be tougher on their good players, and we plan to be." Thats interesting....i wonder if that was his opinion or he knew for a fact. If it was fact, then Babs gets the thumbs down instead. Downey is much smarter than that. He knows that there are times to fight and times not to. If he was just a goon that fought at every opportunity he would have gone the way of Brad Norton. He uses the fights to a) fire-up his team and b) to defend his guys when he feels like they are being taken advantage of. He won't fight if it will fire up the other team at the wrong time unless he has a very good reason to. I'm not a big advocate for fighting just to fight, that's why I like Aaron. We need an enforcer but a smart enforcer and I think that we found one. If being up 5-0 in the 3rd doesnt as constitute a time to fight....I dont know what does. Are we seriously worried about firing up the Blues at this point? Come on, it was over. And anyways...the only team that fight will fire up is the Wings, given that it would be revenge oriented and in defense of Franzen. That is in NO WAY fighting just to fight. By what you're saying about not fighting Walker, none of Downey's fights have been for a reason, so thats contradicting. In particular, the Fedoruk fight went 100% against your rules. The Wings were up by 2 goals i believe, and it was in defense of nobody. Edited December 29, 2007 by Lou_Siffer

We gotta weild the hammer when we get the opportunity. That's how you shed the "soft" nametag and build team toughness. wurd, esteef
