so apparently there is more speculation that forsberg is going to return, and i dont know why eklund can be even credible for this stuff, i mean he says because lids signed an extension forsberg is gonna sign in detroit for two years

"3. Forsberg return looking more and more possible. Detroit likely destination. The Big Red Monster could be getting some serious depth with the name of Foppa. Rumours are that Foppa could sign for this year, plus next year. Lidstrom's extension may have sealed this deal."

I'd give him this year with a team option for next season. He wouldn't cost us any players or draft picks plus it would be nice to go into an Entry Draft with all of our picks for once.

Outside of the Swedish connection, what could Lids extension possibly have to do with signing Forsberg? What am I missing?

That said, I'd take him as a rental, so long as it doesn't interfere with getting Hank his deal down the road.

I am pretty sure eklund just makes this crap up for no reason. He wrote a huge blog about Forsberg a few months ago. Talking about him and foppa had a true heart to heart discussion about him coming back. First we have no need for the guy, second why the hell would Forsberg be talking to a fat-ass like eklund the mystery boy??? I would say there is not a chance in hell for this, I am hoping not anyhow. He will play a couple games and go injured. We should just pick up Havlat. Atleast when he is healthy for the 30 games per he racks some points.

I have heard they are very good friends off the ice and live very close to each other in Sweden. As long as hes at least 80% i would take him.

Pick him up along with Mats Sundin.

With Peter we don't have to trade anything away to get him, thus allowing us to make a decent trade with what we are willing to part with and still adding something for nothing more than money.

I think Foppa's finished in the NHL. He won SC, what would be his motivation? I think that if he returns to playing hockey, it will be in Sweden.

Yeah he really is just finished in the NHL(especially if he cant keep himself healthy!) but I mean you never know Foppa COULD be coming to the Motor City!(which would be very nice)

Foppa seems determined to make it back (Link) and hopefully it won't be a half-assed effort. As long as the contract length makes sense then I wouldn't mind seeing the guy in Detroit - to the end of this season + 1 optional year depending on performance would be an alright deal. Detroit is obviously one of the front-runners and considering the cap space that we'll have for next year we might even be able to offer him that extra year straight-up and have that 3rd year as an option. Meh. Like I said, it would be nice to shore-up the 2nd line but I'm not gonna cry if he doesn't sign for the Red Wings...

as soon as he ditched that aves sweater i stopped hating him and actually started to like him a bit. that said, i think id like him in the winged wheel as long as hes as healthy as he says. and if thats the case he owes that dr in phoenix big time....just think of all the s*** hes been through with that foot!

only thing that seems strange to me (and this is just what i would do in his positition) why not just wait until next season to come back??? just to make sure its 100% and that hes in "game shape". id hate to see him re-injure himself or hurt something else because he wasnt ready for the rigors of the playoffs.

any thoughts on what his asking price might be???

Well the biggest problem people will likely have with any contract signing is the fact that it might have to include the additional year after this season and not so much cash.
