Wings to make offer for Sundin?

I just think it's so impractical for a team (Leafs for this situation) to ask for so much for a player (Sundin most likely) that wont even play a half a season with us. 2 draft picks and a young good player for Sundin is stupid. It'd be nice if the Leafs would want to trade him for less to get him to a contender.... That wont happen though. We're still the best team in the league w/o him and the Leafs are still one of the worst teams with him. So unless they want to give us a discount, screw the deal.

Obviously Mats is a world class talent, so every team would love to have him. But aside from us, which teams would seriously make a pitch. Not just what teams Mats would want to go to ... but what teams would put up offers that would be legit enough. I've heard rummblings that even Van might be in there. They have a large Swedish make up as well.

Reason I ask, is because if he is available, and we are actually interested ... it is going to come down to the competition. Who can make a better offer than us? Who is willing or can afford to give more?

ya let them ask for the moon because they wont get it , if you guys remember the big deals for smyth, forsberg ..... they got traded to teams you would not consider to be a contender , top notch teams like detroit, anaheim etc... they wont trade 2 top prospects and more for a rental , so unless sundin is willing to go to a team like colorado who is good but lets face it has big goaltending problems which will probably end up getting them out sooner or later then toronto will have to accept less

i say we just wait and hope forsberg comes back and/or go for michael ryder who can score but has been awful this season , hes a ufa at seasons end as well so habs cant ask for the moon , they will lose him at seasons end anyways , no way hes goin back with the media treating him like garbage

mikael samuelsson

3rd round pick 2008

for michael ryder

i know you guys will say its unrealistic but lets see it from this angle .........habs get a roster player for next year and a draft pick , i was gonna suggest meech and samuelsson for him but giviing 2 roster players to mtl's lineup for next year for a guy whos a rental and struggling is too much in my eyes , i think ryder next to datsyuk or zetterberg can be productive and that way we would have 3 lines that can score in the post season

filppula datsyuk holmstrom

hudler zetterberg ryder

cleary draper franzen

and IF we were lucky to get forsberg

filppula datsyuk holmstrom

zetterberg forsberg ryder

hudler cleary franzen

maltby draper drake

kopecky

Anaheim, San Jose, Carolina, Vancouver, Calgary....I those would be the teams that would take the hardest run at Mats.

The team that needs him the most, Dallas, sold the farm last year for Nagy & Norstrom and can't get in the bidding.

There's also New Jersey, but I'm not sure they can offer anything to sway the Leafs to send Mats to the swamp.
