If the Wings slump HARD and only win 16 of those games, they will STILL end up with 110 points on the year. Wow! sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 i wasn't until you suggested it! kidding. in a word: NO. the game last night showed me a lot, as did the bulk of the west coast swing. they beat luongo, they beat a surging sharks, wiped a terrible kings squad, and then held their own against a rough and talented team that had won 7 straight games at home to get the DUBYA. they have shown that they are the team to beat. they also have a decent amount of confidence from last years run, which a lot fo the young guns lacked. we are getting secondary scoring from multiple sources, and our goalie tandem continues to defy all logic by shutting teams down night after night. i think come april BABS will have them running drills in their sleep and they WILL be ready. i predict a WCF appearance against the ducks once again. from there is anyones guess... It's just that EVIL little voice in the back of my head that says: "Don't get too excited, we've seen this all before..." Sergei had a great point though...the difference this year is that the younger players will have great deal more cinfidence heading into the playoffs.... That has been out downfall in the years past... we have it to easy and then get ousted early by teams stepping up their games. I actually hope for a little adversity nearing the playoffs... just enough to keep the players perception in check... and let them know they still have to work hard to win the cup. The final 16 wins will be the hardest! The reason the Wings did as well as they did was because they had to fight back going into the playoffs. kylee 727 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 the way the Wings controlled play and answered the bell with equal physicality last night is probably one of the biggest statement's games i can remember from the Red Wings. yeah theyre overall destroying the league in the regular season, but that didn't seem to bother them very much in 02 now did it? No real point in worry about whether something like this might happen, as we don't know if/when the next Wings snag for a few games might be. It's just impossbile to predict such a thing accurately. Though I think we can all clearly remember them coasting into the 2002 playoffs and getting a severe early wake up call. Again though, every year/every game/every team is different, we have no clue what will happen 2 weeks from now or 2 1/2 months from now when the playoffs are close to starting.
