Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 I'm pretty sure he was refering to Flips instead of Sammy. No, he wasn't. Read the post I quoted; he mentioned Samuelsson.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 I gotta agree with KP-Wings; Sammy isn't a "bad" player, but nothing about his game really stands out neither...Ryder is that shooting winger that we could use on the 2nd line, & 2nd pp unit. Exactly. Sammy isn't bad, but he's not really good either. He's not terribly expensive, he's not great defensively but not too bad, he's not great offensively but not too bad. He's basically a placeholder in the lineup. I think Ryder is a definite upgrade in terms of ability, but don't know what it would take logistically (it seems like it'd take more than Sammy and a 3rd) to make that happen and if it would be worth it. Turkey 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Ryder has looked like he's sleepwalking in every Montreal game I've watched this year. Whatever is going on in this guy's head, I don't need to see his zombie routine in Detroit.
luvmnger 125 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 would you agree that ryder is better than samsonov? well he got benched, sent to the minors, accused of being lazy and disliked by all in MONTREAL shipped to chicago 23 games 0 goals 4 assists -7 ( 4 POINTS 23 GAMES ) has moved to CAROLINA and has changed his tune. 12 games 4 goals 5 assists and +5 ( 9PTS. 12 GAMES ) now if we can turn around cleary, lillja and sammy's careers ryder might be worth the look. michael ryder 47 games 8 goals 10 assists -4 ( 18 POINTS 47 GAMES ) AT THIS POINT IN RYDERS YEAR HE IS RIGHT ABOVE DRAPER IN POINT PRODUCTION #11 IN POINT PRODUCTION in using the samsonov "math" ryder could look like this 23 games 16 goals 20 assists +4 IN THESE HYPOTHETICAL NUMBERS HE IS BETWEEN LIDSTROM AND RAFALSKI IN POINT PRODUCTION #4 IN SCORING of course this is silly comparing apples and oranges math but the numbers could result considering that ryder is obviously not happy in montreal and montreal is not happy in him. just a thought....younger faster, more capable. more upside than sammy 41 POINT YEAR POSSIBLE RYDER 51 POINT YEAR POSSIBLE p.s. we may have a "draft pick" to trade since the hottest swedish star is coming to DETROIT! HenryMalredo 2 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Whats the point? We would be trading a solid 2nd line winger and a draft pick for a lesser (at least this year) 2nd line winger. Right now, this year, Samuellson is a better player than Ryder. This move just weakens the team for the playoffs. It could possibly be a good long term move, as Ryder has more potential, but Ryder is a UFA after this year. If he steps up his game, he'll probably get a good contract from another team, and if he doesn't, than he won't be back anyways.

Mudvayneowns91 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 I can only speculate, but me thinks Ryder's performance has alot to do with his relationship with Coach Carbo - both are on the rocks. I think that should raise some warning signs right there. I'm not too knowledgable about Carbo, but that worries me if the player doesn't get along well with the coach. I'd think that Babs would probably get on him too if he didn't play defense as well. On the other hand though, look at Randy Moss. Winning can cure a lot of gripes for a player. On the other hand though, look at Randy Moss. Winning can cure a lot of gripes for a player. Especially when said coach has a team that the captain (of the team not our "The Captain" the caps make the difference) gave up on before the season started in hunt for the Division against a SC pick from many "Experts". That team is build on speed, PP, and Defence. The wings are built on puck possession, PP, and Defense. So some how Ryder would fit better in Detroit with a hard nose coach who shrinks Hudler's minutes when he isn't playing D, Ryder is just going to float around, play no D and Babs will be ok with that. DOUBT IT HIGHLY!!!
Opie 308 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) It would def be an experiment if Holland were to acquire Ryder; if things go well there's a good chance he'd re-sign...If Ryder continues to play indifferent hockey while in his own end, & pisses off Babs then Holland can walk away since Ryder's a UFA. The sticking point is what Holland would have to give up for him, & we gotta keep in mind that we could use a guy whom isn't afraid to shoot the puck no matter how good/bad his defensive awareness is But isn't that one of the biggest knocks on Sammy is that he shoots too much and now you are telling me the team needs someone to shoot more????
